Right, salvation is not from our works, but good works come from our salvation. Let's make the world a better place :)

Good works *can* and *should* come after our salvation, but they don't always. The thief on the cross did no good works, he wasn't baptized either, yet he was saved by his faith in Christ. If good works always came after faith, the following verse would be talking about something that doesn't exist: Romans 4:5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." If you're looking at your works as evidence for your salvation then you're still trusting in your works rather than in Christ alone.

Worth noting that many aspects of this theology are exclusively protestant. So speaking on behalf of "Christianity" and then speaking of concepts like penal substitution doesn't take into account Catholic and Orthodox views on the topic.

We live in a world where Penal substitution is being debated in the comment section of a minecraft let's play. Paul would be proud.

What is penal substitution?
@danielholder7979
@danielholder7979 Жыл бұрын
@@onpoint2292 it’s a particular understanding of what Jesus accomplished through his death on the cross. Every Christian believes Jesus died for our sins, but many have different ways of fleshing out how exactly that happened, what that means specifically or the mechanics of that process. Penal substitution says that Jesus died on the cross as a substitute for us bearing the penalty that we deserved for our sins. So the image is we’ve all sinned and because of that deserve Gods wrath for our sins, but God in his mercy decides instead of punishing us he will pour out his wrath on himself through Jesus his son. In other words someone had to be punished for our sins, the wrath of God had to go somewhere, God couldn’t just forgive us without anyone being punished if he was to remain just so out of his love for us Jesus volunteers to take that punishment in our place. Hope that helps!

@@danielholder7979 this was very helpful! However, what's the difference between the view put forth in this video, and the Catholic and Orthodox views?
@danielholder7979
@danielholder7979 Жыл бұрын
@@alex2spac12spac4I am not as educated on these traditions as I’ve been a Protestant my whole life so anyone from these respective traditions feel free to correct me. But from what I hear Catholics and Orthodox say I believe Catholics are similar in many regards to Protestants in the language they use to talk about the gospel with some nuance or differences in emphasis. For example both Protestants and Catholics would agree we are only saved through the atoning life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. But a key place of disagreement would be the effect this work should have on our lives. Both Protestant and Catholics believe we should do good works as a Christian as the natural overflow of being saved but they tend to use different metaphors for how this happens. Catholics would believe that because of Jesus’s work we are actually infused with grace to act in a holy manner so much so that a Christian will in part be judged based on the works we produce in this life through cooperation with the grace of God. Whereas for a classic Protestant understanding (though there is even debate amongst Protestants on this) a person is “justified” meaning counted completely righteous before God forever at the moment of their salvation and any good works in this life are merely the result or the fruit of coming to understand this reality. There are loads of other differences between Catholics and Protestants such as how they understand the authority of the Bible, the role of Baptism and Communion, but as far as the gospel I think the key difference comes down to whether our works are meritorious towards our salvation or the proof of our salvation. The first involves how God views us while the second only involves how ourselves and those around us view us. As for Orthodox Christians I believe the emphasis goes in a different direction than either the Protestants or Catholics in that they are much less inclined to Legal and mechanical understandings of salvation and are much more inclined to organic images of salvation. In other words while Catholics and Protestants might understand salvation as primarily having to do with satisfying Gods wrath or fulfilling his Justice or ransoming a people for Himself from Satan and the powers of darkness, a Orthodox might be more inclined to use language of sickness and health, that Jesus’s work healed us or brought us into participation with the life of God. So if you think on a spectrum of one side salvation being understood as earning a status and on the other salvation as being understood as making us into a certain kind of people and having more to do with being you could imagine something like this, Protestant---Catholic--Orthodox Salvation is Salvation is Salvation all about about both is mostly earning a our status about our status before and being. being. God and at best secondarily about our being. Again I have a very shallow knowledge on these topics so would love for Catholics or Orthodox believers to jump in and correct or comment!

Does penal substitution lead to the trinity breaking or Nestorianism. Because the punishment meant is separation from god and Jesus took that punishment so… please explain

Hey redeemed zoomer! I've been learning a lot since I've started listening your videos. But actually I do have a question... How do you know that ppl who put their faith in Jesus goes directly to heaven? What about Sheol? Don't you think there's a resting place where believers goes after death? Please let me know this through Bible.
