From an engineer's point of view, I see 2 main problems in the changes made to this car. To begin with, the front wheel arches might look cooler with the rear ones' shape, but they make the car unsteerable, so there's no point in changing that. Second, the air inlets for the engine are now useless. The one on the door is a NACA duct, and they are proven to be the most effective way to get air into a car on a flat surface (or at least they were in the 80s-90s, check the Ferrari F40). The same happens with the upper one. If it looks like a shoe box, it is to ensure that the necessary air flow gets into the engine. Any modifications made to them will result in a loose of performance or overheating. These videos are really cool and Chip's insight on the design aspects of the cars is very interesting to hear, but I believe more care should be taken when changing the functional bits of the cars, specially with high-performance ones like the Countach.

That's just it though, he's making these changes to the design of the car. It's a conceptualization. By its very nature, it pays little heed to what any practical application of his design would require. Obviously in the real world, a car looks different from its prototype due to common sense and physics playing the penultimate role. No need to bemoan what wouldn't work on a proposal for design alone.

You do realize that a lot of the "design" of this car wasn't design at all but things they had to do because of the capability of the time right? Just look at what Chip mentioned about the cars the Countach was based on and even some of the earlier Countach design. The CAR is timeless, but the design was far from flawless.

It needs to have a smaller-in-diameter size steering wheel, a less bulky pronounced dashboard that is too boxy (needs to be a bit retracted and circular-oval shaped), Porsche inspired ergonomic bucket seat design Recaro racing seats (multiple padding patch upholstery layout) that look like racing seats that of the new McLaren... those seats shave-off excess weight. More interior carbon fiber material based refurbishing. Roomier interior cabin for both the driver and the passenger. Engine parts to be replaced with Kevlar material based engine parts because Kevlar is the total game changer... way lighter in weight engine, automatically alters the center-of-gravity.

You can't work on an icon like the Countach with the expectation to improve it. It's nearly impossible! For instance the front wheel arch sits much too low. That’s the beauty of gandini’s design. You always think of wedge shapes, and what you always see are sharp lines. But when you notice the curves, they are the most beautiful curves ever. Overall, infinitely better than the new countach’s design. The new car absolutely does not have gandini’s beautiful flowing lines. They only want to make it look like wedged shape without any consideration to the beauty of the curves. In any case, foose’s design looks very 90s and it’s really classy and timeless

The naysayers here are kinda stuck in time with all the admiration of the original design. Even at the time of it's release it looked like it was mocked up out of cardboard and taped together before being converted to metal. The lack of compound curved surfaces had a very harsh quality and what Chip did to it accentuates the 'actual' elegant features.

Nice result, I would daily drive it but I feel we lost the identity of the Countach. It almost looks like a Diablo in my opinion. I would have kept the flat front bumper and most importantly that line that goes from the front bumper up to the top of the windscreen which is almost straight and part of the identity of the Countach. The wing of the Countach was not an official option so I would have done a design without one. Lambos without wings are so beautiful and their style is crazy enough already not to need one (unless real aero need). Well spotted for the front wheel arch but actually later Countach models had a 'square' wheel arch.

I want to see Chip do a series on modernizing various cars, or at least modernizing iconic styles. Like his Coutach drawing looks like a more modern version of the original, something that could have existed as a later model in a different decade. But I'd like to see his interpretation of bringing old icons up to speed with the current era, like take what made the Countach iconic but make it 2020's; or take the wedge car era, Countach, Zero, Carabo, Manta, Tapiro, Boomerang, Esprit, Marzal, Berlinetta Speciale, SRV, Navajo, etc., and modernize it to 2020 design while keeping the iconic notes in the modernization. But also do this for more than just the wedge era.

some Cars should not be touched, cause they are perfect already. THIS is one of them. I generally like Chip´s Designs and Ideas but some Cars are Legends as they are. Even the Imperfection has it´s sense and meaning behind it and is part of the entire Design. Tweaking details ruins it. Sorry, my Thumb down to this XJ220, late Wektor, Diablo, MacLaren Bastard .... The "Shoebox" Intakes, the Wondows, everything look BRUTAL and has it´s beauty BECAUSE it´s not soft and rounded.

i'm always impressed when i see how much he's able to "americanise" the cars changing just a few lines. i remember thinking the same when i watched his bmw e30. this doesn't look italian at all to me (i'm italian)

There are certain cars that I feel you don't want to mess with. Jag E type comes to mind, first gen Corvette, Lamborghini Countach, Shelby Cobra, Gt-40 etc...

Absolutely fabulous! You are an undisputed master of design and I love your achievements. I offer you two challenges, it's up to you to choose the one you will accept to do. The first is to redesign the 747 Air Force One, to make it the Air Foose One. The second is to redesign my favorite car, the European Ford Capri 2.3 S mk3. Thank you in advance if you take up the challenge.

The Asymmetry of the Countach works...the Diablo and Foose's designs are nice...but they arnt the Countach.

Exactly the Countach was designed by Gandinni (at that time was at Bertone, all factory Countach were tested by race driver Bob Wallace and approved by Ferrucio Lamborghini and some of the last versions of Countach were tuned and face-lifted by Horracio Paganni by then he was working at Lamborghini ). So this car from the beginning suppose to be brutal, raw, aggressive, with boxy, edges, otherwise if rounder shape would be the main thing, certainly more people would have get the isdera comendatore instead of Countach..

This is just what the Countach needed imo. The original seems like a different person designed every part.

Don't mess with the 80's! Granted the late 60s and Early 70s had great designs. However, starting around 77 to 95 the 80's are my favorite. To me the boxy design is part of the 80's charm. Like for instance, the Vector W-2 and Vector W-3. I do like the Vector W8 and M12 but I will always favor the W-2/W-2 Prototype and the W-3.
