I toured the Auburn Cord Duisenberg last year in Auburn Indiana and observed to the staff that only Bugatti or for design-wise Delahaye were comparable but nothing built anywhere else in the world was better to mutual agreement from the entire staff. The state of the art of race-proven mechanicals was state of the art for their time and to this day are still timeless. If I had the means, this would be my ultimate dream car without question. Bravo Chip !! I hope you get the opportunity to realize this dream.

Wish he still had his tv show. What a true artist, it goes to show that an artist's canvas can be anything. Mr. Foose chooses cars as his canvas. My dad restored classics professionally for 50 yrs, I loved having the opportunity to work along side of him, they are memories I will hold onto for a long time ( I lost dad to cancer😠😢😞) we did daily drivers and customs but nothing comparable to Mr.Foose's.

I think I remember him saying he was going to keep it a bare chassis. Something about he enjoyed looking at it without a body and seeing all the craftsmanship it took to build it. I also think Jay is more of a connoisseur than a builder. He does modify things but in most cases is usually for practicality reasons.

I was lucky enough to work for a man that owned a Duzenburg. I did not work on it. 2 door coupe. I was fresh out of high school then. The year was 1967. I enjoyed the video. The owner was Frank Latola in Bridgewater Ma. He collected cars and owned an Equipment Company selling IH and Massey Ferguson units.

I have the same comment I used when Chip tried to "improve" the E-Type...sometimes you study the original, then stare at your blank sheet of paper, then you put down your pen and admit, "I got nothin'"
@ChristopherJones-qm2nw
@ChristopherJones-qm2nw 4 жыл бұрын
...Except Mr Foose DID actually improve the E-Type. In the case of the Duesenberg, there is no "original" - Every car was, to an extent, the product of it's owners' imagination. If he got hold of one, I expect the folks who run SEMA would already be preparing to hand over another Ridler Award.

My grandfather used to drive the rolling chassis from the plant in Auburn, IN down to the coach and interior plants down in Connersvile, IN and the finished cars back to Auburn back in the day Strapped a wooden orange crate to the chassis to drive them. He drove an awful lot of Cords, Auburns, and Duesies that way.

I might be exaggerating, but I think one can argue that just by looking at Chip Foose you get the feel that he grasp proportions. How? Simply looking at his watch! It has exactly the right size for his arm size and build. Not to big not to small. The world has gone crazy with mega sized watches which looks like pocket watches strapped to the arm. Mr Foose’s watch has a size which blends nicely to his arm without hanging over it and allows the band and lugs to be seen, forming a harmonious extension of the watch.

A true talent. It would be great to see this come to reality. As he was drawing this talking about the style I thought, what if he made it as an electric vehicle to bring the old and new together, even though I can also imagine this with the low rumble of a large cubic inch engine for that fully classic vibe.

I like the chrome halo for the convertible roof but not the idea of it staying in place with just the fabric folding down. Maybe there's a way to have the chrome arch retract into the rear quarters behind the door jamb, with the forward hoop taking the fabric section with it...? That would be a very cool design if could be made to work, which I'm sure it could be.

Chip, I was folowing your web site when you took on the '39 Lincoln into a Woodie- that chassis was gorgeous, the pairing with the V12 inspired. Don't sell yourself short- I think Augie and his brother would approve if you "fiddled" some of their pieces! I'll bet Harley Race has a few comments about "why didn't we think of that", too! FWIW, what you have already drawn fills the concept of "It's a Duesie" quite well. Thank you for it! For myself, I've always thought Packard should have built on their wartime relation with RR and rebuilt their Merlin as a V12 car engine for the big cars and reworked as a V8 or V6 for the more plebeian ones. All this gets too a V12 Packard Roadster, circa 1948-49, when the car designers were pulling the fenders into the bodywork , but still wanted to retain some of the bodylines of the earlier cars; a two door, two place sportster, hdtp or Convert. That could also be awesome too! Hope the hint makes into your drawer of "could have beens"!

One should Re~start the Deusenberg line. With the basics being the only parameter necessary, any deussey found could be stripped of its coach and still qualify. Personally, if he ever got his hands on one... I think with every bolt and nut removed it would actually Hurt him. (It would hurt me) In the beginning it looks like he is drawing a prowler, lol.
@terryglenweaver

@Edward Gross If... I had the finances, I would build one that could easily be changed from original to concept and back with very limited tools and time. Connectors would be given adapters removable between changes. Difficult...sure but it could still be put back to original. Just think it could be a 2 era original Deusenberg.

Aw heck, Chip, don't wait. If you can't get your hands on the Deusy you want, make one. You know enough people in the industry that could fabricate you a frame and drivetrain, the rest you can do yourself. I'm betting there are some people out there wanting to collaborate and make this stuff at something close to cost. It would be a fascinating industrial/technical archaeology project too.

I cannot think of anyone extant today who'd be more qualified to do a Duesenberg! If only there were a nondescript black boxy towncar with a generic body no one would miss. Um, not "Twenty-Grand"!! But towncars were usually longer chassis, yes?. But what you did very briefly is tremendously righteous. I admire your respect. It still has the audacious yet regal feel of Duesenberg. The glide in the fender is perfect, but yeah, something around the "hips" could be revised more like you said...too many Deuce Coupes in your veins! But I like that it' says "Duesenberg" not some kind of Delehaye. Colors: I kept thinking "Butterscotch" then something cooler to contrast and complement: Black: jet or graphite? with red accents. Blue? Burgundies to purple also with red? Maybe the "right" green all with the butterscotch inside the clamshell.
