Why is everybody crying that this doesnt look like the old zyra anymore? That is literally the whole point.

I think a lot of people are confusing “visually appealing” to a “good concept”, I like Zyra because she’s pretty, I like her color scheme and I like drawing women so I tend to gravitate to female characters 🤷🏻‍♂️ but if you think about it, as a concept she lacks originality and creativity, she’s just a woman with plants covering her, another Poison Ivy if you may.

I do think one point that I haven’t seen is that this redesign makes Zyra look more androgynous and non-binary which makes sense since most plants have both male and female sex organs. I think it plays really well into the plant biology.

When I read up on Zyra's lore I had the impression that the plant monster took over the sorceress's body as a host (Kinda like how Paras gets taken over by the mushroom when it evolves into Parasect), making Zyra a walking corpse. I think a zombie-esque rotting corpse theme works really well with your rafflesia idea

Zyra: "is a whole entity composed of thousand of different plants" Also Zyra: 3 leaves in her body. Thats it.

The lore for Zyra is that there was a human mage who got murdered and taken over by a sentient a parasitic plant. And this design would fit so great with that. What about a plant taking over a body that would result in a woman wearing a plant bikini? I'd expect something more akin to a clicker from Last of Us or the Flood. I can just imagine that underneath all that foliage is a distorted body, all twisted up from the roots fused directly into the flesh and central nervous system; a mutilated corpse controlled by a foreign organism.

Malphite is literally just one of many old magic rocks

Now this is what I imagine Zyra to be; A monstrous being that lurks in the depths of the jungle waiting for someone unfortunate enough to into her traps, like a miserable fly who’s only purpose to be the next meal for the plant monster. The only nitpick I can come up with is the lack of a mouth that resembles a Venus fly trap, to further empower the feeling of a monstrous plant being. But overall this design is not too shabby and I quite enjoy it. Nice work and good luck on redesigning Malphite. 😉

Also, a common complaint I see is “but she would be skinny due to her exercise as a “enter here fighting people profession”. But dude, look at the Olympics for example, athletic women come in more shapes and sizes than this.

Her old lore made the most sense, which is why as someone who's played WAY TOO MUCH Zyra, I hate the new lore. Her old lore was that she was a carnivorous plant in a dying desert, the animals and water had gone away. A beautiful sorceress staggered into the dying land after years and the plant (Zyra) consumed her and her magic. With the magic and the woman's memories, she was able to create a human vessel in the visage of the woman to leave the dead land. That's a synopsis, but like... I hate the new lore... it doesn't make sense. Old lore is understandable why she's an oversexualized, half human/half plant.

I love how your rooted and mobile forms with different ranges was literally the entire original idea fit Xerath. His W rooted him, but like doubled the range of all of his spells.

I would like a redesign for Kaisa, she was captured in the void in symbioses with a creature tied to her Body, she couldve been cool but instead all she got for battlescars are some naruto anime cheeks and lipstick.

Zyra being a plant-woman hybrid is really what made me play the game initially. She’s been my main theoughout my playtime, but I often find myself wishing her Dragon Sorceress skin was more of her original design instead of ‘sexy plant FeMoiD’

I like the design but I don't really like how the mobile form just has legs and to be blunt. I don't really think she needs a mobile form. I think it's so much creepier if Zyra just crawled/slithered around in her rooted form instead kinda like how an octopus moves on land but with much more energy and speed. The design though is really awesome way better than the original.

A Varus redesign would be so cool. Two people merged into one body by Darkin Bow Vaarus and they are being used to destroy everything. With a red theme like the other Darkins (Aatrox, Rhaast), armor and more alive bow. Love your videos, keep up the good work!

Zyra main here! I love the look but the whole “rooted in place” I don’t think would work to well in league. Maybe when she moves it could be more similar to how lissandra moves with zyras roots coming in and out of the ground moving her as she “walks” . But I think you did nail what her lore says with the many different plants thing. I think my only complaint is maybe give her more definite eyes some how but not super needed. Anyway please do Malphite next literally the dumbest laziest champ design in league.

I've played Zyra a bunch since season 4, the only things in the character that made me play her were the seeds that become turret-like and her role as an aggressive support, and with that in mind, I really liked the direction he took in the redesign, the rooted form could give you more control over the seed-turrets attacks or change their attack type, and the concept of a brute-looking caster applied to the kit is also fun.

I like this version of Zyra you made. I makes me think about how the forest that was once Zyra pulled itself together to create one singular mass with the remains of the sorceress as a base. With that said I like the idea of this form having only one arm, to remind you that this is not a person but a shambling mass of sentient plant life with a human corpse incorporated into it. This can also be translated by having her move in a zombie like manner, or not have the feet move at all and instead have the roots move with the legs dragging a bit on the ground.

I love this design, honestly I feel like the reason they have more human characteristics is because it makes it easier for the artists and animators to make functioning skins that go along the champion. Like it becomes more complicated if the champion was way too many limbs, or they have to create a whole new model.

there is a point Riot thinks when designing a character: "humanized" champions sell more, they are more adorable and comfortable. monsters champions used to be underrated and dislikable by the public. your work is awesome but it wouldn't pass through the business director.

It's so funny to me that your concept includes a stationary form of Zyra, since that used to be her Passive Ability before she got reworked. Initially, after taking lethal damage, Zyra would turn into a stationary carnivorous plant that could shoot a thorn in a direct line, dealing massive damage to enemies hit by it. The plant would then rot and fall to the ground, until Zyra regrows (respawns).

In Zyra's old lore she was a sentient plant that took over the body of a dying mage girl. That's why she's so sexy.

Her old lore might be that she inhabits a mages corps so the duel mode might work but it might be too gory as she drags and puppets a girls corps around. Kinda reminds me of how fiddlesticks drags the vessel it's vessel around.

I definitely think that this design is a lot more interesting. It makes me wonder how they'd make some of her skins look with it - like the dragon skin, I could imagine it having a Tiamat-esque thing, making it so that she is wearing a lot of living dragon heads instead of the venus fly traps. I love it.

I never played Zyra but I agree that she is too sexualized for a singularity of forest creatures, so seeing your rework was nice. Also do Malphite next, he is a living mountain ffs, show Riot how to do it man. Edit: I guess malphite ain't a living mountain anymore, sorry about that. I do not know the latest lore updates now so apologies my fellow players. But he is still a a big sentient superweapon ffs, his splash art and model in game don't convey any of those things

If I remember correctly, her original story was she used to be a plant mother about to extinct and sometime later managed to ate a sorceress/innocent lady then turned into Zyra. Didn't know they changed it already. It's been a long time. 🤦‍♂️

I really adore the fact that this Zyra is still somewhat feminine without looking more like a human. (I’m also a sucker for characters that have forms.)

Yeah, I like the idea of a plant mage/druid like champion, but this humanoid(the current design) woman-like plant never struck with me, even her lore just makes she look dangerous more than alluring. I liked your changes, and I don't think the idea of self root is that ridiculous, a previous iteration of the champion Xerath, had an ability like this. This change in her gameplay would probably cause her to be nerfed in the bottom lane, because she is already a powerful poke/pick-off support, but it would make her a little more viable in the mid lane. Loved the video.

Consider myself a Zyra main and love this new design! I'll admit I only play her kit than the look of her current design, but I love plants so I could see myself most certainly playing your new design and loving it more!

Originally, although not necessarily anymore fascinating, her story was that there was a species of plants that would eat anyone who traveled into their forest, but as everyone began to learn that, they stopped going in. Slowly its species began to die out, and the plant creature was the last amongst them all and it too was fading. Until one day a sorceress, which I believed to be described with red hair, came exploring. The plant saw the sorceress and planned for her to be its last meal, but as it was strangling the life out of her it realized that it could possess her instead and travel the world so that it could repopulated its species and its kind would thrive once again. So it embodied the sorceress and began its pilgrimage to repopulate. And I THINKKKKKK the sorceress was named Zyra, and thats where the name came from, or it was actually just the forest was still named the garden of Zyr, I don't remember. But regardless, that's where the image of the bootlegged Poison Ivy came from: it was literally a plant hosting a woman's body. First of, I want to say I love this series of yours, its so much fun and it's so awesome that you actually listened to the Ionian vs Noxian critique, I love that! (Although I don't really agree with saying people saying they "fixed" the design, generally speaking). But what I think, as a master level 7 (which only means I don't have much of a life) Zyra main who actually went the extra step and bought her prestige skin because I love her that much: Personally, I would be less interested in this version than her original. Although I believe her new vague back story allows her to leave her human exterior, I feel as though this one erases her identity completely. Not so much as her Poison Ivy look-alike identity, but like this character just doesn't really stand out; if it was in a big group picture of the league of legends characters, it would look like an environmental piece, or like if they added a "green buff" monster in the rifts jungle, this would be it. I really think it's pretty and has really awesome elements happening, but as a character it just doesn't really have anything notable to make it look like an actual champion; it's just a really pretty plant with a woman's legs and arms for whatever reason: It's still sort of vague. As far as how attuned to her abilities it is, I'd believe it would match. I think since she becomes a center piece in her ult, this would fit perfectly. I really like the idea of it being able to interact with the environment as well, that's so awesome and holds very true to a creature of Ixtal; I love it. Although remotely popping the blast cones would be OP, it would be so much fun! TL/DR: I love the series, the concept is interesting, but the identity is lacking.

This design is awesome! The colors really pop, the shape language reads as dangerous, and the silhouette is so unique! I imagine she would have very fun animations and sound effects. Only saw this pretty late but here we go: I'm a Zyra main, and I have to admit, she might not have the most interesting kit from a design standpoint but it plays really well. I'm enjoying my poke and zone control, the fantasy of being a force of nature, a plant sorceress, her simple kit can be pushed quite far, and when you get Rylai's, ah don't even get me started. Her current voice and quotes are great and, even though they still don't really give you much on her character or background, add a lot to the way she feels. I'm not gonna lie I like the way she looks. Of course I can't deny it's just another sexualised woman with the same body type as all the others but I like it nontheless. Your design is awesome, and I would love to see her kit fleshed out or even be put into the game. I wouldn't want an alternate form, something like Lyssandra ult could fit really well while still conveying that unmoving form you designed. Or maybe something like how Karthus plays after death. Constantly switching between forms would really change the play patterns and feel of a champion and take you too far away from the way she plays now. I'm not sure what to do with her basic abilities but making plants grow everywhere is really fun and having zone control similar to what she has now would be very important to me. All in all I love your design but I would miss my thorny plant lady.

Do Master Yi next please, there is no design in League that bothers me more than him. He doesn't look like he belong to his home country, yet its directly related to his lore all the time. He's a blade master with the stupidest looking sword in league, his sword design is extremely unpractical. He uses so much tech to just swing a sword around, I really think is design would fit, after they gave him lore, now he just seems like a old concept that didn't age well. He doesn't look Ionian, He doesn't look like a Super Powerful swordsman that saved his country. He seems like weirdo that relies way too much on tech, which his lore heavily implies he doesn't.

I like the concept of the two forms. The bud form could act like a sentry tower, staying in one place and casting while using the "planted seeds" and map plant interactions to, as you said, interrupt fights without being in them. The caster form however, would be more hostile, using thorns and vines to her advantage possibly as daggers and restraints respectively. This series of redesigns is really cool and it gives me an outlet to use my brain for more cognitive things away from tedious schoolwork during these trying times. Keep up the awesome work and I'd love to see more of this style of video in the future

I think it could be really cool if Zyra could make her seeds grow into the plants already present on the rift, honeyfruits, scrying orbs and blast cones, instead of just her old attack-the-enemy plants. It would give her some really unique utility.

After what they did with Fiddlesticks (which is a good rework), I'm wondering how scary can Nocturne get and how you would redesign it (and kind of keep his ultimate idea, I really like it, but I feel like his character design is not horror or strong enough to really sell the idea of the ultimate).

I have absolutely no complains here, love the head, love the "robes" to signify her role as a mage in league. and i love the exotic yet dangerous look you gave her. the bar for zyra's design wasn't high or anything, but you made this an absolutely outstanding improvement

I am not a gamer but I love learning about the lore and the thousands of characters in a game. If I’m showed a not so diverse group of characters (no matter what game) I’ll be craving for a redesign and a better story. These type of videos really hype me up to actually check out the game and the lore and create my own characters, so thank you my dude for doing these videos. I get super inspired and can’t wait for any other videos you got brewing 🤩

My only nitpick is that the exposed human body parts could have looked more desiccated or dried out. That way it would ride a fine line between dried flesh/ bones and wood. Other than that I'd say that this design is really cool and interesting.

I love this redesign of Zyra. This actually inspired me alittle to make a druid sort of character that covers themselves in carnivorous plantlife to the point of seeming more plant than person at first glance. I honestly hate how much people rip off Poison Ivy when they cant think of a design for a plant lady. This lowers the sexualization of the previous design, but it still himts at some femininity, like the curvy human arm and brighter more flowery colors of the jungle she came from. Once again, i very vEry much love this redesign. I would love to know what her voice would sound like though ,’:/

I love the redesign, would love to see Shyvana redesigned since dragon. For this redesign, I like the overall look and vibe way more than normal Zyra but down really like the second form. Champs like Lissandra can just kinda glide through the map unnaturally which I think would tie into the theme of Eldridge horror more than the legs.

I absolutely love the Design. Maybe her not-moving form can always be seen when she casts spells that look like spreads her seeds. Btw her functionality as a living-devouring organism is a little more than what the champ bio seems to reveal. In her short story she seems to be an ever expanding.. well flesh-eating garden (thats why i like your design - it represents the many different types of plants :D) Zyras goal is to become the planet or become all living - or at least that is what she is heading towards whether if she actually knows that or not. The way she is is quite a creepy one - the short story describes instrestingly and I recommend Reading it to fully understand the character (there isnt just this one zyra, and your design is representing this better than the Original One)

Love the design and the two forms! The only thing I feel like should change is having an actual recognizable face. Even if it's completely made of plants. Feels more like a monster than a character.

This is such a great redesign! I've never taken a second look at the original but this has so much more intrigue! and I love the concept of this interconnected hive-mind-ish forest condesing into a mysterious sentient being when the rest of it was destroyed

I think Kai'sa would also be a good candidate for a redesign because she has such an interesting concept with her "living suit" which just ended up as "basically naked with a low v-neck".

Glad to have recently found you! But I super agree about the huge over saturation of sexualized female characters and it's so great to hear it from other artists.

I gotta say I love that versatile take you went with her. That stationnary form reminds me of what I've seen of Old Xerath's If I remember well! Also those pokemon soundtracks, dear.

The thing that is missing in this concept, surrounding carnivorous plants, is that carnivorous plant look/smell appealing to attract their prey before they attack, something that this design doesn't accomplish. Although it look a really cool concept, yours would work better for a forest monster of such. i think a design based on Scylla, a monster hidden by beauty, would be perfect for a character like zyra. And to avoid over sexualization, that is clear in the current day zyra, i would go for a child design , like Scylla in smite, for example. "A lost lonely child" would certainly be captivating, independent of sexuality of the prey, and would, in theory, work really well with her lore

"2 forms and a whole new set of abilities , is it too much for league?" Me : i mean.. if Aphelios can have 4 different rotating guns and 20+ set of combos.. i see no problem about this rework
