A while back I told you guys that I was doing some upgrades in my reptile room, and I've finally started! In this video, I set up 7 snakes cages for my ball pythons, milk snake, sand boa and childrens python! there's still more upgrades that need to be done, so those will be coming soon!

I’m upgrading my rabbit cage over Christmas break! We are moving them outside, but we are taking as many precautions as possible. I would love to keep them inside, but we don’t have the space inside for the type of cage I want (over 50 square feet). Another reason is because upstairs the rabbit room smells so bad even though we clean the cage every day and it’s embarrassing when guests come. They will be under a covered patio in a separate little space that is away from the elements. We are going to put a heating system on one side, and a fan on the other. Their old hutch will be insulated and warm for when it does get cold, although it rarely does here where we live. They will have their hutch, a run under the patio, and a long tube that goes to the grass. We are predator proofing it and using mosquito netting to keep the bugs out. We are also going to be treating the bugs using a 100% natural and pet safe product. Is there anything else we can do? I’m trying to think of things to keep them as safe as possible. As I said again, I wish we could keep them inside but it is just not possible. Please if you have any other ideas help me. We are getting them spayed/neutered in the new year. Again, so sorry I just want what’s best and safest for my precious bunnies.

I’d highly recommend investing in some herpstat thermostats. The other ones are known to be not as reliable. I also always recommend taping the probes under the cages heatmat because placing any tape in a snakes cage can be dangerous if they were to get to it and get stuck on the tape or move the probe

I have always seen not to put any sort of tape in reptile tanks (I got corrected for it on a Facebook group when I first set up a bigger tank for my ball python). I've been using hot glue instead which definitely doesn't stick as well, so I have to keep an eye on it, but anything to make sure there are no tape accidents

I’d like to add that uvb and overhead heating are highly recommended for ball pythons. :) Well.. for pretty much all snakes. The facebook group “Advancing Herpetological Husbandry” is an amazing group to learn from. They have lots of files with linked scientific studies relating to numerous amounts of species :) Anywho, these do look great. Much, much better than the majority I see.

I recommended freezing any substrate. I found a bug in my aspen not sure if it’s a mite but I froze it and if they are mites they should die in the cold.

So for your snakes what temp do you set the thermostats at since you have such deep substrate and the thermostats at the bottom of the tank? I’ve always been curious about this with burrowing species!

I keep my ball pythons around 90, so In order to get it to that temp on top of the substrate, I need to set the thermostat to around 100! Even if they do burrow down right to the bottom, 100 degrees won’t hurt them at all. It’s warmer then I would normally keep them at, but there’s no risk of them burning themselves or anything with it only being 10 degrees warmer

My king snake somehow escaped one of these cages... he was in his water when I refilled it and shut doors but then at 1am I saw him just slithering around my kitchen and I was like how so I checked and the doors were shut theres no holes that I can see so idk how he did it but he went on a little adventure into cabinets keeping me up all night before my final. so though I doubt yours will do it too, be careful.

Ximena Nathalie mostly just decor! Some animals will use it to hide if they’re small enough, but since most of my animals are larger, it’s mostly just decoration. I think it gives a nice natural look to the cages!

These are the large low exo terras! (36x18x12) Although If you have a female you may end up wanting to get a larger cage as she grows as females can get quite big!

Looks like Zoo Med Eco Earth mixed with something else. I use Eco Earth for my snakes and it's great. Holds humidity well if you spray it down.

The cages slide out of the shelves really easy, so it’s easy to just take it out, place the heat pad and put it back!

Tiny heat pads, that won't do much, spend more and get radiant heat panels , or actual heat tape

Chris Bryson did you watch the video? I used heat tape for all of the enclosures but two. And the two that I used the tiny heat pads on I said it was just for one day only. I thought I had more larger ones, but didn’t so just used those small ones overnight until I could go out and get the correct heating devices the next day!

Dixie White personally I find them to be quite easy! As long as you do all your research, I don’t think a beginner would have any problem with them! She has a bit of an attitude sometimes, but care wise she’s very easy!

2 comments... 1 shouldn't have tape in reptile enclosures, could use hot glue or put it on the outside. 2 i suggest using a better thermostat brand.. not sure why so many petubers use cheap ones. Get a spyder robotics herpstat 6 and bam less plug ins and cords and a MUCH better, safer t stat. Just some constructive thoughts, youre doing great and being a good keeper

They’re all exo Terra’s!! 3 are the medium lows, and 6 are the large lows!

Hailey Rogers I don’t know a ton about them unfortunately! I do know that they’re social animals though, so they should be kept in pairs or groups so that they don’t get lonely. My friend Terra (Pickles Pets) on KZfaq owns them, so you should check out her channel to see her videos on them!! :)
