Hi, this video was made 6 years ago and people online are telling me the hamster needs at least 800 inches of floor space.

Seeing the Petsmart cages is just sad. I did have a hamster when i was 5 but i don't remember much about it except having to give it away less than a year later because we moved to Taiwan for my mom's job (we didn't know before). I was crying and my dad told me to shut up. Also, his name was Blueberry. I'm getting a hamster next month. He is at the humane society and I'm getting him set up before i take him home. He is a senior hammy and he is adorable! I'm buying a 200 quart bin for him. ❤

I thought an instalation like this had to have some kind of water pump so it has some circulation. Do you just do frequent water changes? Thank you for any tips

I found out that cocofiber often had a high amount of salt in it, so switched it out. I planted my tank with pothos, reptisoil and earthworm castings. But I also found that pacman frogs are very prone to getting bacterial infections and don't show it until the last minute and then croak on you (or croak no more). Also people tend to neglect their vitamin B which makes it harder for them to aim properly, and for some reason the vitamin B I was ging the frog wasn't good enough, so I had to switch that out to a liquid vitamin B made from reptaboost, which I put on the frog regularly. Yeah, I think they have higher care requirements than people think. Also, feed nightcrawlers as a staple, not rodents. rodents are waaaaayyy too much fat. Because they are prone to bacterial infections, and then don't show it (TT crying over vet bills, BTW), you really need to clean their water dish and wet areas carefully. They cannot stand to sit in their pee or near their poo long and you have to clean it up promptly. The last issue I have is there are no decently designed water dishes for them on the market. They need a 1 inch water dish they can climb in and out of, but often they are too chubby to do so. My last water dish killed my frog. It's to the point, and I'm not joking I asked someone to make the design of water dish I wanted so the frog can't flip easily. So I think the two largest mistakes with pacman frogs is thinking they ONLY need calcium with vitamin D3--no, they need vitamin B too. You should not handle the frogs (unpowdered gloves). You should NOT ever use soap with the frogs (I use f10 SC and vinegar with a double rinse), you need to clean their water every single day. Especially if they show any signs of using it. And the water dish. TT. It needs to be custom. 'cause plastic makes them slip too easily. Also, I'm against cocofiber. Salt+frogs don't mix well. Plus I like providing worms in the tank and cocofiber has a way of killing a lot of the supportive fauna in my bioactive set ups. Watch for vitamin B deficiency (their aim becomes super bad). And carefully check for any signs of bacterial infections, which is a high killer of these frogs, especially when coming out of hibernation. Yeah, not beginner pet when you're fretting this much. Oh, and they also tend to be picky eaters and go off food. (cue me crying--that's not what the care guides say). If you get Biodude soil, BTW, filter for sticks and also loosen the soil as pacman frogs aren't strong enough to dig into it. I went 50/50 ratio with Biodude's mix and earthworm cashings, and it wasn't enough to make the substrate loose... yeah, so reptisoil all the way with spagnum moss and earthworm castings. Harder to access, but easier to keep... I got a chubby frog. Semi-arboreal species. So much less fussy. Also more interactive than a green tree frog. Super popular, but you can also get them captive bred. If you want a larger frog, I heard smooth sided toads are cool and don't have the laborious care requirements of a pixie frog.

Thanks that was really informative. My only experience with them is a friend of mine had a few tiny ones, just sitting out on a fake plant and she said they got stress one day, fell off the plant dead. After watching your video and a few others, I'm thinking that it was more about not having the misting and other requirements and so their lifespan became drastically shorter Due to not having what they needed. I think they're probably my favorite reptile, and I only recently came to know there are so many different types. I just never thought I would be able to own one so I never looked super deeply into it. I think when I get some money though, and can build a proper home with the right lighting, I'll definitely look into it. Terrarium building and stuff is very interesting to me and it would be nice to have one also be a habitat but there's a lot of animals I just wouldn't really care to have. I'm not into beetles or ants or just any lizard. And snakes are cool but problematic with the feeding. I tried that but it was just too difficult for me. I didn't know about the frozen food initially so I kind of traumatized myself with the baby pinky mice. Especially when my cornsnake slinky refused to eat the one I got for him because I was afraid the lizards just pests weren't nutritious enough for him. He was the best little guy ever. That same friend, her cousin found a pregnant corn snake and when the eggs hatched and they had started eating, he gave them away to a lot of people and I got one. I wasn't planning on it, but that was my introduction into reptiles. He was also an escape artist, even though it was a proper lid. The first time he got out I found him. Almost lost him but managed. The second time never found him again. It was really sad. :( my next and only other snake was a gorgeous black-and-white banded king snake. But he was mean as shit. And so I got to a point where I didn't even want to try to hold him. It just felt like stress. And he tried to swallow one of my fingers one time and it was a panic trying to extract that without hurting him. It was only after the fact that I read king snakes tend to be more aggressive like that. And here I was used to my super chill cornsnake. :/

I would love to have a bunch of different animals but man these inflation prices like you mentioned just make it way to hard to maintain so many. $17 to $60 is a HUGE price increase i dont blame you at all for having to go back on some of your commitments because life and costs have drastically changed so much. We had to rehome a few animals because of inflation and just not being able to afford everything. I completely see where youre coming from! Dont feel bad about it, the world just got alot harder the last year or two.

Interesting. Petsmart has ripped off the design of New Age Pet's Mohave enclosure, except Mohaves come with a lock piece to match the latch on the door, and the doors are easily removable. And Mohaves don't have the miniature door in the screen, which seems like it would only weaken the top anyway.
