Yeah. Look, I am saying this as a German with a relative who worked as a Mercedes mechanic all his life until he retired: Don't buy a modern Mercedes. The brand still works but its cars don't. If you want a Mercedes deserving of the name you gotta buy one from 1999 or earlier. Back when the engineers ruled the company. They ENGINEERED the car and then a price was set according to the cost of the engineering and building process. You got what you paid for. Literally. That's how Mercedes became known for quality. The cars were expensive for a (very good) reason. But modern Mercedes is nothing like that. Modern Mercedes operates like all the other brands. Setting a price first, then engineering and building toward that price point. (and then charging extra for the brand name)

@@barbarusbloodshed6347 I'd say that 2006 is the last good year for Mercedes, maybe excluding the SLK/CLK for a few more years in their more basic packages. The day the M113 got replaced by the M156 was when the switch truly occurred. Don't get me wrong, when those 6.2L's run great they are MONSTERS but they usually have a life expectancy around 110k-130k miles, sometimes less, until a head bolt needs upgraded. Also, casting errors started becoming a BIG problem. Whether it be Blocks or camshafts or pistons or rods or cylinder walls, they just don't last without serious $$$. The M112/M113/M113k? I honestly don't think they really have an expiration date. They just keep going and going with basic maintenance. 300 to 400 to 500k miles and up, there was an SL I think that has 800k+ miles out there. Even those 5-speed transmissions were tough as nails, they would almost last as long as the engine with fluid changes every 40k miles and maybe a conductor plate at 300k miles. At around the same time the M156 came out, the 7G Shiftronic came out and while they can handle power pretty well, they had reliability issues as well! To engineer motors that go a million miles and drop down to barely 100k, that's an absolute travesty!

Nice to see a car we own and what to expect what can go wrong or what to be cautious about. Thanks ReDriven! Isnt this most sold MB currently? I can say for end 2016/early2017 220d 190.000km, it is true that bump stops under "Comfort" setting hit every time over speedbumps ("Sport" mode prevents hitting bumpstops), squeaking brakes, crabwalking also. But crabwalking can be solved with proper tires fitted (good luck finding correct ones). Got DPF changed for free after warranty. Leather on the bolsters of the seats fade, rattle in back on passenger side over rough roads. Diesel consumption is 7.5-8.5, we more times take opel/vauxhall astra 1.4 for the trip rather then GLC due the cost although ride is more comfy and better.

Funny you mention the suspension issues on the amg versions. I drove to Westside bmw today to test drive a 2016 GLC43. Had 80,000ks on it, so very good for its age. Before we even took off I noticed the button in the boot for the air suspension didn’t work. We ended up test driving it and it was like driving a go cart. Ended the test drive early. On the drive back we got a drivetrain and suspension error. When we were walking back to our car they decided to road test the gov, as it was leaving you could see the suspension in its highest setting. Went and test drove a second one that just popped up by chance when we were looking at a Volvo, and it felt like a totally different car. Had all the options, and the suspension was fantastic (for a sport oriented car). Ended up buying it, for less money than the other one, with extended warranty!

Adam I bought the first model GLC 250d in 2016. It was fully loaded with the works, as my mate was the sales manager. Yeah I did get looked after as I was then a valued client. I only had it for just over 18 months & no issues which you’d expect. It ticked all my boxes & the diesel fuel economy was exceptional. BUT, I just didn’t gel with it. So I traded it on a Skoda Superb 206kw wagon in mid 2017. Surprisingly I didn’t lose either kidney in the deal as Skoda wanted their product out there. I am still more than happy with my decision & the Skoda, to this date has been faultless. Yeah, yeah touch wood.

You hit the nail on the head about style over substance. The German brands used to be too for engineering, not anymore. They have cut corners more than many manufacturers and the cost cutting is so obvious when you dive into the engine bay and the general car beyond the flashy interior. And the premium brands absolutely rip their customers off for parts and labour. People forget that a lot of the engineering is actually Nissan and Renault (A-Class = Infiniti QX). Great video guys

I owned a 2016 GLC250 from new and had the airmatic option (air suspension) have to say the ride quality is superb until I had a warning light showing up suggesting there’s an issue with the airmatic system just at 5 year mark with below 60k km mileage. Dealer initially diagnosed it saying both front air springs are dead needs to be replaced and quote A$6800 and I was advised that the car needs to stay in dealership as it’s not suitable for drive. Waited 3 month for the parts to be shipped from overseas (it was during the supply chain crisis) they called me saying that they found the pump is dead too and wanted me to pay an additional A$5100 for the pump - had to tell the dealer that I’m bringing this issue to ACCC and not paying a cent for the extra issue they told me after they had the car for three months. Ended up only paid what was originally agreed and had a ‘good will’ warranty split from MB for the replacement of the pump. Not touching any MB in my life - what a bloody nightmare.

Burnt out pump is common on airmatic cars with leak if you leave the leak too long Goodwill is a good point that most people don’t know about and why servicing at a dealer during warranty and just outside of warranty can be beneficial with euro brands I’ve had cars upto 7 years old with goodwill claims with Audi, BM and Benz and only paid partial contributions for repair
@Chrischen0589
@Chrischen0589 4 ай бұрын
@@dorianvisser1922 You are right about the pump burnt out with leave it too long - my complaint for the dealer was they were very confident that the air spring is the problem and said no other issues. I thought they had tested the pump already but was only told that it was broken after waiting for 3 months - my theory to the dealer is then what if it’s just the pump at the beginning - and statistically for two air spring to break at the exact same time is very rare - on that seperate note I did have the car always serviced by the dealer might be the reason they did the good will split.

a good indicator is to see where they are assembled,I drive a 2018 Glc220 diesel,none of the above defects don't apply on my car,but mine is made in Germany,if in Australia check where they're assembled,the quality process is not to the same standards in every country,it can be that are parts produced in China or USA and there are not to the German standards. On other matters if u search on KZfaq there are some videos filmed inside the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart where auto parts are "selected" for Germany,China....do to quality.

These look fancy, but my gosh can the interiors creak and rattle. I recently sold my GLE and probably my biggest pet peeve was the interior. Especially with mine having the AMG pack it just meant the rattles were amplified because of the ever so slightly stiffer springs

If I was going to buy a car in this sector I'd go with either the Santa Fe or Tucson. Was hoping that the safety features would be done in the style of Rammstein but that be best left for a powerful German made car lol I felt sorry for poor Hullsy with the what goes wrong on the shitbox engines lol Great job guy and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.

I was thinking about a comparison of the 1990’s big boys projects….1997 Holden Commodore VT vs 1998 Ford Falcon vs 1997 Toyota Camry V6 MCV20R vs 1996 Mitsubishi Magna TE V6. Also describe what car suits what type of driver/owner. These cars were given a major face lift and change from their previous models. The next major change was around the 2006 -2008 timeline.

Regarding Apple Carplay in the pre facelift model 2015-2019: Until the Modelyear 2018, there is no option to code factory Apple Carplay or Android Auto. I have a 2018 AMG package/ white with black trim ( night edition) 42k gets serviced by the dealer and so far no problems at all, the idea of luxury of the Japanese for me they are still behind the Europeans cause their mainstream brands and “luxury” look almost the same so I will pay just for a badge!!!! Their reliability today is superior but again is not enough for my taste so for now I will be a Mercedes fan and consumer!! There’s something behind that name and what represents the no other brand specially Japanese can’t match!!!!! Now…the part about dealers is true ….. 2 dealers same company and name the one 15 minutes from me gives the worst service possible and the other 40 minutes away and treat you like royalty!!!! And all of you know I do take the 40 minute drive for a better service!!!👍🏻

Had a new c-class amg line premium plus.... engine mount went after 1600 miles, and glass panoramic sunroof creaked so badly it honestly sounded like it was going to explode. Dealer experience wasn't great either. When they took it in to repair my engine mount, the technician chipped the paint at the front of the car, parked my car half on the pavement at the front of the showroom, car wasn't washed and covered in workshop dust which resulted in a scraped windscreen as when i started the car the windscreen wipers stalk was in the active position... would never own another one.

... the one thing I would say is if you are considering a Merc, check where it was manufactured. The c-class is built in South Africa. I owned a new e-class coupe after the c-class, and the e-class was built in Germany. I had no issues with the e-class whatsoever.

The most importand item at a used Merc is the oil change documentation. The utter most failures at the engine and turbo are related to bad oil. The car does also not need any oil from a DIY, it needs MB certified oil. The axis of the turbocharger does eg not run on ball bearings, but rotates freely (up to 150,000 RPM) in a narrow shaft, only with an oil film (similar to the piston). If the oil is bad or has the wrong specifications, the axle can contact the walls of the shaft and damage it. Consequence: Damage to the turbocharger, first an oil leak, then the turbo rumbles.

Mechanically good but they were performance models and didn't have them for long. BMW's were good but have the old 8 year from new rule then their trash. Worst thing was the one basic Oil change service i had on the 63 was $880 then they charges an extra $110 because i asked then check the new tyres were fitted correctly which as far as i know would be part of normal service. I left the Dealership feeling like a proper Goose. never again

I used to be a huge Merc fan but I'm sad what they've become. Their new cars are awful. And if you think Mercedes will listen, think again. They don't care. So long as people keep buying their over inflated priced poor quality vehicles, they will not care. The new GLC is cheap and nasty inside. This one was at least better. The new one uses hard plastic everywhere. And half the things creak and rattle and are loose.

I'm pretty sure that car has a 7-speed? They didn't move to a 9-speed until roughly the same time the C-Class did, which was around 2019. Also, THE most common problem on those cars is the "auxiliary battery" (park pawl capacitor). Guaranteed to need changing every 2-3 years, regardless of spec.
