What a ridiculous concept. A station wagon that's great to drive, well equipped, has heaps of power, super comfy, reliable, ridiculously practical for families, (could be) economical. Why in the world would you want one of these when you can buy a dual cab ute.

I’ve owned mine for 11 years absolutely love the thing. I’ve taken it camping and on fishing trips regularly. The space helps with carting the family around and is super comfortable with performance.

I'd personally leave Winston as stock standard as he looks such a sleeper with the lowering as a hint of narkiness. However you love Winston and want to put your stamp on him. What your planning sounds tasteful and not too rad so if you've got the energy and money go for it. Thanks for your and Jim's presentations - great stuff. Holden Cruzes be damned!

Winston looks brand new 👍👍 Interestingly enough, the first time I realised this car existed was when a Holden Commodore tried to mess with one up hill and got left standing 😁 For me, yes, I'd respray those black parts to match the rest of the car.

The V6 engines have a tendency for the cam position sensors to go bad without warning. The sensors themselves aren’t hard to get, but replacing them means pulling the engine apart, and the labour will be over a grand.

I remember driving a friend's rather rough Autech 260RS back in the day when they could be bought in the teens. What a car that was! Like you my impressions were of how solid it was and the sound of the RB26.

Gotta admit that Winston's review has me quite a bit more intrigued by the Stagea. Also don't mod Winston for 2 reasons the first being that having a almost unmolested one will earn you big bucks later and the second reason is he sort of has a Sean Connery-esque look about him. Also watching you in the video with some of the things you were doing made me wonder if you were trying to take the song in love with my car a bit to literally lol 😆. As some others have said it'd be interesting to see you review Hullsy's car or even your camera man's car. A potential couple of video ideas you guys might like to do as I think the lists when you compile them would surprise you are best and worst cars for urban/city living and driving and best and worst cars for rural/outback living and driving. Good video guys and congrats again on hitting 50k subscribers as you've all put in the hard yards and deserve each and every one you've received 👍. Be interesting to see what you do to celebrate the milestone yourselves.

as a former nissan mechanic and owner of a 260rs who got an nm35 for my mum this was a good general overview of the m35 stagea. your particular car is meant to have the popout screen where the pocket is at the top of the dash where you put your phone that has the navigation and trip computer and altimeter/ compass amongst other things according to gtr registry your car is also fitted with hicas 4 wheel steering which some love and some hate. super fine hard coat paint was an option that makes the paint alot more durable in australian conditions, other options were things such as reverse cameras and radar cruise control in the interior window switches can fail as you mentioned however its generally caused by carboned up contacts on the switch and can quite easily be removed disassembled and cleaned and the switch will work fine. vehicles with bose audio tend to eat cd's and also vehicles fitted with the safety package ( side curtain airbags and 3 point middle seatbelt in the rear) tend to suffer more airbag light issues from the side airbags in the seats this is largely due to the connector under the seat and is a pain to clear without a nissan consult scan tool as the manual method requires a sequence of events to clear the light. you glossed over the rear seat without mentioning that they recline as most owners who put the seats down and back up for the first time will not understand why the seat is so upright. chassis wise they are pretty good though quite heavy this causes them to eat tyres at the rear especially. they can also crack rear subframes however this is mostly down to stiff suspension being fitted on modified vehicles or lots of weight being carried regularly engine wise all vq engines suffer from cam position faults and rocker cover leaks which you can get a new gasket of its an external oil leak however if it is spark plug tube seals they are non replaceable and require the whole rocker cover to be replaced. specifically the vq25det in your stagea they suffer alot from airflow meter issues and the nissan and aftermarket replacements are not of the quality of the original design and will fail prematurely. coil packs are another big issue 9 times out of 10 a misfire will be a coil pack so keep spares. the other big one thats most important is turbo failures very expensive as the labor is high if not doing the job yourself as they put the turbo in an annoying spot on the passengers side constant oil changes will prolong the life of the turbo and i would recommend 6 months or 5000km oil changes with synthetic oil stretching to 10000 km is too risky in my opinion

I have a 2002 250t RX Four. Mine came with reversing camera and sensors. I imported it through J-Spec in Melbourne (I'm in Brisbane). Was an awesome experience. It had only 40,000 km on the clock and was in exceptionally good condition. I've owned it for 7 years and it's been a great car. Really nice to drive and had served me well through 3 house moves in that time. Ice had the radiator blow up on me and recently I had to have the centre console, fuel injectors and fuel pump replaced but that's it. It drinks like a fish and only takes 98 Premium fuel and insurance isn't cheap $800/yr. I get about 14L per 100km with mostly short trips as its my daily driver. It feels very solid on the road and isn't what I'd call quick but moves it's ample weight adequately. I upgraded the stereo when I swapped out the centre console so it now has Android Auto and Apple Car play. Most people are shocked when I tell them it's now 20 years old (and not a Volvo). Great car.

Watching this and seeing how much you love the car makes me miss my own one. I bought a 250t RS FOUR in 2017 for 4.5k. Owned it for 3 years and never had an issue with it. Was pretty much stock aside from the aftermarket BOV, which was mostly for the noise and to freak people out when I drove it around. Everyone did mistake it for a Volvo until they tried to run me at the lights, hypothetically that is.

I think it's ok to be biased when you love your own car. I used to have a 2008 Fiesta XR4. I got it new and totally adored it. Didn't care about the opinions of others. It was my perfect car. Small, light, nimble and fun. Perfect for Tasmanian roads. Love your work and now, a fan of the Stagea!

They have sneaky extra cup holders in the back under the middle rear seats, just behind the center console. Mine has reverse camera, keyless entry, steeringwheel volume buttons, cold A/C and auto HID headlights which all give it a modern feel for a 2004. It has threaded holes in the roof hidden by plastic caps for roof racks to bolt in, which has been great for snow trips with 4 snowboards on the roof. With the massive boot and rear seats folding flat, it all lends to a very comfy bed in the back. She's been a great daily and road tripper for the last 4 years. Plenty of power and a traction control disable button within quick reach means a bit of fun can be had on a rainy day. With drifting, a bit of understeer can be expected with such a heavy car but if you can whip the rear out it leads to a very controllable and enjoyable slide thanks to the torque from the 3.5L V6. Lowering sounds like a good idea, the stock suspension can certainly be boaty. Brakes are a little on the weaker side with all that weight so plan turns accordingly. I've had to replace cam and crank sensors, only had to take throttle body off to get at both cam sensors so not the worst job, and crank sensor is easily accessible from below the car. Changing the water pump wasn't the easiest job due to being driven directly off the chain but was a good learning experience. The radiators can go on them. Changing to an aftermarket stereo can be expensive, having to get an aftermarket adapter with climate control buttons included to fit the radio. I've herad of owners installing after market radios in the slot for the navigation DVD drive above the glove box instead. Using a bluetooth FM transmitter in the cigarette lighter has been a easy cheap fix for me. Like a lot of nissans, the dash can be prone to cracking when under the sun all day. Fuel gauge issues can be somewhat common too. One of my radiator fans has given up recently after 200000km so thats the next job due on mine. The temperature control wheel for climate control has become tempromental for me but still works with a bit of fiddling.

The mighty car mods stagea with the R34 front end was bloody awesome. With the front end swap these things are fantastic. Without it I struggle with the looks.

Had a White C34 RS4-V for nearly 7 years. Twin sunroofs, heated leather seats, factory Dayz body kit, coilovers, a touchscreen (From 2000!) and the most ludicrous cat-back exhaust, that used to fart and let off a small flame when you wound out the gears. Sadly it was stolen from out the front of my better half's work about 5 years ago and I still miss it terribly.

I live in Scandinavia so I have never seen one of these but it looks really awesome. I wish that some of these rare JDMS would be here. Love Aussie cars as well!

Same year model Maxima, had the same front door storage bins. Looks like it has a foot parking brake. Driving a Infinity qx70 ( hi riding extended 370z 4 door 😀) with the diesel. Left sided indicator stalk and a foot operated hand brake. Just off idle it has 550nm. Yep, torque is addictive. Nice wagon.

For the love of ReDriven, paint the cladding! 🙂 I do not understand why car makers leave them non-body colored, rarely does it make it look 'rugged'. A uniform color will highlight whatever cool wheels you'll purchase. Side note, my husband has a mint condition 2004 Infiniti G35 Coup with the aero & sport package (120K miles) and it's so odd to see some of the same interior bits. You can't fit a whole hand in his side pocket though... Nice review, I love seeing what other country's get!

I love the name you called your Stagea. When my wife and I needed a reasonably cheap to run vehicle for a camping holiday we settled on a used LPG driven 2009 Ford Falcon wagon. Only car we have named too (something about a wagon??) His name was Harrison.

I have a 350rx in nz, with the double sunroofs. Really good when you have dogs in the back !

Aussie bro, great video. Aaaah! 1st complaint - you should have shown how to change gears just like a manual - well nearly, no clutch. But the good bit I totally love Stagea driving it like a manual - this has been super cool. As a 73 year oldie my son said, dad it’s a bit slow changing automatically, so use the gears - he showed me how. I’m like a teenager now. We have a 250 RX 2001, got it when it had 110Km on clock & now has 322k. Sucks juice 11.65 Ltrs per 100km last month - about the same over past year - averaging about 3,500 km distances per month.. Aaah, 2nd compliant! This compliant has nothing to do with you - the son’s mother, the wife of nearly 50 years, wants a flash EV, or Hybrid . . or something. Nope! Son & me are looking for another Stagea. Awesome stuff but pass on the change gear story - honestly, it is the best thing going for older Stageas. Love from across the ditch in NZ

If you look under the centre seat in the back, you should find a pair of pull out cup holders. Heat kills the oem turbo. Replace the oem dump pipe which is horrifically restrictive with an aftermarket item. It also has a ceramic exhaust wheel that will have its life considerably shortened by more than 14psi boost. Warmer parts of Australia you will absolutely notice heatsoak. Replace the oem intercooler with a 600x300 aftermarket one. Heat kills the transmission. It has an integrated heat exchanger built into the radiator which have been known to fail. Install an aftermarket trans oil cooler plumbed with a thermostat to maintain correct operating temperature and bypass the integrated heat exchanger. Lowering nm35 stageas makes it difficult to maintain correct rear toe and camber resulting in accelerated tyre wear. Z1 motorsport sell SPC toe and camber correction kits to alleviate this. That will do for now. 😉

This makes me really miss my old M35 Stagea. Such a practical car. Only downside was it could be difficult to find parts sometimes. Starter motor let go, cam sensor shat itself and got rear ended and couldn't get the same rear bumper that matched the side skirts and front bumper.

Also leave Winston as stock as possible, they look good from the factory and that will help when you go to sell it.

This channel is gaining momentum quite nicely. At 100k subs I reckon splashing out on a 260RS would be a great self reward.

You forgot to mention that the rear seats, on top of being able to fold flat quickly, have adjustable seat back angle. That way the passengers in the back can lean back or they can REALLY lean back for the long drive.

This is a rare Nissan that I LOVE! I wish it had come to the US as an Infiniti. I also wonder if it could have been sold in Europe as a budget BMW alternative. Probably not... but fun to dream!

great video , and a Newwy boy by the looks of it . you need to add to the problem list tho , other things that go are the cam sensors , usually cheap and relativly easy , coil packs fails are common but its the spark tube usually and not the coil itself , maf sensors are common , wheel bearings , usually front wheels also common and radiators usually crack at the top hose clamp position. howerer just about all problems mentioned occour around the 100,000 - 120,000km mark which is major service time for most cars anyway . BTW paint those plastics , spray those wheels and get a jdm exhaust to help that turbo .

I must admit to never having heard of this model. As a consequence trying to picture the size of the vehicle is a bit difficult. By this I mean I am not sure if colouring the wheel arches will make it look a bit off or if it will enhance it. The split in the dash panel could be rectified by a person who does that type of work. The wheels in a greyish colour maybe worthwhile as the current ones look a bit like they are over exposed against the vehicle colour.

I love the M35 gen and have owned the US sedan equivalent (2004 Infiniti G35) since 2008. We never got the wagon in the US, but if I had the opportunity to buy one that got wadded up in the front, I'd happily pay a shop to convert my sedan to a wagon.

It’s hard to say if you should paint the body cladding or not but it would probably look sportier,same with the wheels I think they would look pretty good if you ask me.

Hope you guys get to review a skoda Octavia wagon or Volvo wagon in the future. I love wagons compared to SUVs.

OK, the black trim, those bits tend to get whacked by inconsiderate parkers and rocks etc, so maybe leave as is for practical reasons, plus it can make a car look "chunkier" than before if coded, and it's already a big unit. Wheels? There's always a better looking set no matter what you've got, I'd shop around. Other than that the car doesn't really lend itself to exterior mods, anything like vents or stripes or wings would look way out of place. It's basically a sleeper GT wagon, subtle, like the lowering, is key. With cars you already think are great there's generally not a lot that you can alter, rather just refine.

Awesome car. Does look like a JDM lolvo. I don't think we get many in the UK, but it's super cool if I saw one.

Such a great bus. I considerd buying one of these last year. Kinda regret it!

Mine gets between 12-15L/100km. A bit of a shame to not mention the huge failure point of one of the plastic joiners on the coolant line at the back of the engine, if it fails say byebye, also drilling out the turbo oil line banjo bolts, both outside and inside the sump, stops the problem of them getting gunked up and lunching the turbo. Keep an eye on the rear toe arm bushes on HICAS models.

Thanks to you and Jim for the great reviews. Really been enjoying them since I found this channel Winston definitely looks good. In terms of painting the cladding and wheels. If it was mine (and everyone’s preference is different) I’d go for a lighter Gunmetal (about the same darkness as the gold) on both the wheels and cladding. Nice to have some contrast. If changing wheels wouldn’t go any lower profile. I sometimes regret going swapping my Mazda6’s original 16 inch alloys for some TypeS RX8 18 inch wheels. Yes looks much nicer and handled corners better, but on the often terrible NZ roads…the suspension gets a workout Would be curious to see a review on a GG/GY series Mazda6. I take it there are a few across the ditch. A mostly love but sometimes hate relationship with my 07 Mazda6 GSX 2.3. Had it since 160,000 5 years ago, now done 270,000. Engine reliability excellent. 5 speed auto reliability, excellent and still shifts smooth. Original shocks still good had some new bushings etc no big deal. Air conditioning been my most expensive repair ($1800 for evaporator and clean out). Note for transmission especially have been doing a lot of preventative maintaince new with drain and refill trans services every 20,000km or so, and done a couple more expensive transmission services where pan is dropped and filter replaced. Plastic housed thermostat has been replaced twice in my ownership.

And you bag Jeeps, I do feel better now, haha. This is what I have said to many people, it may not be a car to your liking, but if you love it and it does everything you want, now that's a perfect car. I will keep my opinions of that Stagea to myself thou.

You can retrofit the front end with an R34 fascia. just like what Benny of BCW did.

Winston is cool and very similar to nissan elgrand NE51 that has the 4WD and similar / numerous trim levels. Used as a limo in Asia. Please ! Can you do a review of a 2003 & up of an Elgrand? After 2009 it went front wheel drive & awful CVT gearbox.
