I had to smile when I saw this bang-up-to-date KZfaq video that shows that Leonard Wright's ideas, that were seen as blasphemous by traditional anglers when he wrote two books about them in the 1970s, are now mainstream with a much younger generation.

I move my nymphs a lot too now. I started to notice I was catching a lot of fish whenever i put my rod under my arm to dig stuff out of my vest. Started bouncing my nymphs around a lot more and have started catching 2x the fish I used to. I dunno, maybe it's just confirmation bias but that's what I've noticed😂 I was under the impression for the longest time that the less movement the better but seems to me its the opposite. Of course bugs are different. I fish a lot of prince nymphs, hares ears, pheasant tails.... Stuff like that.

Good feedback! It pays to keep that fly in the water.

This such a hilariously awesome observation. Just the other day I was fishing pool with a streamer and after my final cast I left my line in the water as I shifted position and WAMMY… 22 inch bow. As I was shifting position I kept slipping on the rocks, surely generating some twitching movement on my streamer.

New fly fisherman here, was fishing a small creek for an hour with dry flys and nymphs. Got nothing with dead drifts. Finally gave up, and as I was reeling my line in with a Prince nymph a trout took it lol. Was so happy I got it, but sad it was when I wasn't even paying attention or trying. Thanks for the tips!!

I have tried this technique for the 1st time this autumn on the rivers Tees & Leven here in the NE of England and they have been if not very effective then very exciting. The trout and grayling have been making some dramatic rises and takes which don't always result in a solid hook up but definitely result in a big smile and plenty of gasps!

Great video and I'm thankful, but dang it would be nice to show us ten seconds of what you're talking about; the actual presentations. I just got through watching two spey casting vids where the guy was casting and mending and explaining, and the camera is right on the guy lol. I realize there's some difficulty in filming the actual presentation, but this vid could've been just words on a website or in a book or article. It's a video- you can show us instead of just trying to describe it lol. But seriously, thank you; it was a great explanation of a cool technique. I've done similar on the Deschutes right about this time of year and it works. Works with nymphs and streamers, too

What do you find is a good floatant? I am not familiar. I use a powder for my dry flies.

Gink is what I use. Clear bottle with a yellow or red lid.

Loon Aquel is great. We sell some other varieties, but that is the standard. Powder on larger flies tends to get sticky, and algae, dust, dirt, and grime tends to stick to the fly (for me anyway). redsflyfishing.com/products/loon-aquel-fly-floatant-for-dry-flies

I'm not a trout fisherman, but for Atlantic salmon I was told that you want your tippet to sink because a floating tippet makes the fly look unnatural. Opinions?
@gregkosinski2303
@gregkosinski2303 Жыл бұрын
I’m guessing this is with relatively heavy tippet? Light tippet like 5x and up is going to be damned near invisible on the surface, but I could see something like 1X being much more visible on the surface. It’s both bigger and more stiff
@stephenrosenfeld833
@stephenrosenfeld833 Жыл бұрын
@@gregkosinski2303 Yes, we generally use 8 lb or 10 lb test tippets for Atlantic salmon, which I believe correspond to 3X and 2X.
