True Story: I graduated high school in 1996. In my yearbook, I wrote that my dream was to see Pearl Jam in concert & the Red Sox win the World Series. My classmates had dreams of being lawyers, doctors, visiting Europe, joining the military or Peace Corp, having a family, etc.. My dream involved a concert and a ball game. I had no idea how important that dream would be. Four years after I graduated, I met my future wife on August 30, 2000, and kissed her for the first time....at a Pearl Jam concert. Four years after that, I married my wife...on July 24, 2004...the same day as this game...the turning point...the most important regular season game in Red Sox history. Then roughly 3 months after we were married, the Red Sox won the World Series. I have now seen the Sox win 4 World Series and Pearl Jam in concert over a dozen times. But the fact that I met my wife at a Pearl Jam concert, then got married the same year the Sox broke the curse, as well as the same day as the Varitek vs. A-Rod /Bill Mueller walk-off of of Rivera game, after what I wrote in my yearbook, is amazing to me.

And seeing my father celebrate after being a diehard fan during the 67 days hearing it on the radio see not just win one world series but 3 in his lifetime is great memories and got the 2018 championship hat for his gravestone good memories!

You all might hate me for this but I am an Orioles fan and I cannot stand the Sox. However, it's safe to say that in this rivalry, especially back in the 2000s, I'd be on the Red Sox side. The Yanks, especially with A-Roid, were so toxic, and Red Sox fans, 2004 goes to you. A truly dangerous team, and the Sox-Yanks rivalry is the best of all time

When the Sox beat the Evil Empire in those fateful four days in October and then then won the WS it brought tears to my eyes and I broke down. All I could think of was my dad who had passed and never was able to see his beloved Red Sox win it all. It brought back all the memories of my time with my dad at Fenway and also the sound of the game on the radio he always had on. Thanks 2004 Sox it was truly a magical and beautiful year.

There were soooo many families who buried loved ones who never got a chance to see the Sox win a WS until that incredible October of 2004. All the cemeteries in my area had Red Sox balloons and banners tied to grave stones by the hundreds and you couldn't help but get emotional. There will never be another feeling and emotion like 2004 even if the Sox win 10 more WS titles.

I had a ticket to this game, part of my Saturday Sox Pax 4 pack. I flew in from Dallas the day before, and went to the Pawtucket Red Sox game in Pawtucket, RI. Sadly they lost, just like the Red Sox did that night. I got to Fenway around 2 pm for the 3:15 pm start. My seat? 3 rows from the Pesky Pole in Right Field. Sure was fun being there for this game. It was a full Red Sox baseball weekend for me. AAA on Friday, MLB on Saturday, AA on Sunday and A on Monday. Flew home to Dallas on Tuesday morning. Still got the ticket stub.

If you are a die hard sports fan, you sometimes see things a normal sportsman doesn't. You could see something was happening, something was changing. It came to full tilt when Roberts stole second base. I knew then it was going down. My father passed in 2000. He waited his whole life to see the sox win the big one. In the 9th inning of that world series game against St. Louis I placed his glasses and his scully cap right next to me on the couch and we both watched something we never thought we'd ever see. It was more than just a game. Hard to explain.

I lived in Manchester, NH for a number of years, which is about a half hour, maybe 45 minutes to Boston. Well, I got off work one regular normal Friday and met friends on the deck at a local bar called Strange Brew. Fast forward 2 or 3 adult beverages & there's 3 of us, all wearing our Sox caps, sitting at a 4 chair table. Up walks this tall tall man coming from the bar inside, drink in hand. He sits down, looks at all three of us one at a time and says " Nice hats boys ". Long story short, after blinking a half dozen times I realized this is Mike Timlin!!! He sat and shot the sh*t with us for close to an hour. Still have a group photo on my Facebook...he's as nice a guy in person, as he seems on camera.

In spite of Everything Johnny Damon did in a Red Sox uniform (and I do appreciate what he did), I will never, ever forget how he got Red Sox Nation fired up by saying he would never play for the skankees, then he pulled a Benedict Arnold and signed with them. I got no problem with people playing anywhere they choose, but don't tell your fanbase that you refuse to join the enemy, then join the enemy. It would of been better if he didn't say anything. Then I wouldn't of cared so much.
@stevedem76

The day that signing happened, I drove down my street after work. At the bend in the street, someone stuffed a life size cut out of Damon in a trash can, along with the rest of the garbage. I was at school in Boston for the 2003/2004 seasons, living about a half mile from Fenway. As a lifelong Sox fan, there was no better place to be. You would hear a roar come from Fenway, know something crazy had happened then see it on tv after the broadcast delay. I vividly remember dancing on top of overturned cars on Lansdowne after we took out Oakland in the 03 ALDS. Everything else aside, it’s difficult to fully express the insanity of the 04 ALCS to anybody who wasn’t living there and sooo heavily invested in it. I was at Berklee studying music production so *at least* during the day I was able to dwell amongst the music nerds and get a mental break from the insanity. But every night after game 3 was a long, protracted anxiety attack. Extra innings, elimination at every turn, walk-offs, bloody socks, controversy, record setting victory. Forget the 04 World Series…that was just the final nail in the coffin. It’s all about the 2004 ALCS. To this day, that remains the single greatest baseball series I’ve seen. It *might* be the greatest 7 game series ever played…

"As a lifelong Sox fan, there was no better place to be." This sentence is ungrammatical. If you start with "As a lifelong Sox fan," then you should continue with the person who was the lifelong Sox fan. For example, "As a lifelong Sox fan, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

It's shame this didn't mention the American League Championship Series (ALCS) of 2004, which was Yankees vs. Red Sox. For the first time in the entire history of professional baseball, a team (the Red Sox) won a seven game series after losing the first three games. Game 3 was especially demoralizing for the Sox, losing 19-8 in their first home game of the series to go down 3 games to none in the best-of-seven. The Sox squeezed out extra inning wins at home in games 4 (with a blown save from Mariano Rivera tying the game in the 9th inning) and 5, then miraculously took the next two in Yankee Stadium. Game 6 of the series became known as the "bloody sock" game; Sox pitcher Curt Schilling had some temporary sutures to hold a tendon in place within his injured ankle to allow him to pitch.

In actuality it was about 2 abd a half weeks later when the Sox really turned it on in early to mid August. After they traded a disgruntled Nomar, and got some pieces that would later play a huge part in October. The Sox got to within a half game of the Yanks, after a incredible ( another) comeback against Mariano Friday night. Thanks in part to Kenny Lofton going half heartedly after a fly ball. They had good success against Mariano ,the greatest closer ever that year. But a rumored hungover Derek Lowe was blasted the next day and list a heartbreaker that Sunday. The Sox would go on to take 2 out of three the next week at the stadium, but finished a very respectable 2 games behind. That year NESN did a post season rally and really got the fans going. The Angels were just the warm up act. Big Papi was born, and there was that feeling we never felt before. Even down 3 - 0 we believed. Something was different this year. Magical, mystic. Hard to believe it's been almost 20 yrs. What a time to be a Sox, Patriot fan. A Boston Fan as well. It's something missing badly today.

As a Yankees fan this rivalry and these series were so much fun, nothing better than beginning of September and yanks in first and Sox in 2nd, were more fun when Yanks won but... What was INCREDIBLY annoying was all of Boston (Sox and people) try to claim NOmah was anywhere near Jeter! C'mon man NO NO NO NO
