In today's session, we explain how your mind has to be focused on the ball if you are to reduce unnecessary mistakes and how to find that focus.
The first step in the mental process of watching the ball in tennis is to focus attention on the ball. Players need to visually track the ball from the moment it leaves the opponent's racket until it reaches their side of the court. This requires a high level of concentration and visual acuity.
Once a player has focused their attention on the ball, they need to use their visual perception to accurately judge its speed, trajectory, and spin. This allows them to anticipate where the ball will land and position themselves to hit it back effectively.
To accurately judge the ball's movement, players also need to use their visual memory to recall previous shots and the ball's trajectory during the game. This helps them predict the direction and speed of the ball more accurately.
Finally, watching the ball in tennis also involves the ability to quickly shift attention between the ball and the opponent. Players need to be aware of their opponent's movements and positioning on the court, even as they track the ball's movement.
Overall, watching the ball in tennis is a complex mental process that requires a combination of attention, perception, memory, and cognitive flexibility. It is an essential skill for any tennis player and can be developed through practice and training.

I notice when I concentrate on mechanics near contact, I can' t focus on the ball, just like you said. What helps me watch the ball better is to focus on seeing the ball actually spin after it bounces and gets closer to my racket. If I can watch the ball spin and keep my head on the contact point until the ball is struck, it is almost always a good shot.

Brilliant! Watch the ball WITH YOUR BRAIN. (Or mind, really.) Do the "self-talk" AFTERWARDS (i.e. analysis, criticism, self-loathing, etc.) So simple, yet full-on, F-ing GENIUS. Now...let's see if I can do it! Thank you for this, and all the other simply brilliant content. I LOVE your channel!

I actually do this. It's kinda of like the technique of remembering names. When you meet a person and they tell you their names, you have a better chance of remembering their names if you echo their names back to them.

So basically strike the ball and see just afterwards if you stroke the way you wanted. I’ll try, today I just perceive the error if I frame the ball or get really late

Yes. That's the idea. But the important thing is too find a way of watching the ball. Getting the technique right and NOT thinking about the technique when hitting the ball.
