It's going to be a cold week, but that doesn't mean the fish won't eat! We have been talking all week to people about this cold front and really this is the time we go back to basics. Thermal tip ups, deadsticks or bobbers are all great tactics to use during a cold front. The fish tend to not be as aggressive and that is what makes this such an effective tactic. Look a bit deeper as well. Dan was catching his fish in about 25-30 feet of water out on Huddles Reef. This structure has been so diverse this year with the opportunity to catch just about anything.
Perch looks a bit shallower for larger quantities of fish but expect to see some bigger ones in that 18-24 feet of water as well. This makes for such a fun bite and a great fish fry!
Finally, Eelpout (burbot) have still been going strong. This is really promising as this bite tends to only get better as the season goes on all the way to open water believe it or not! So, if you are wanting to target something a bit different this will make for a great time with friends and family.
Don't let cold weather keep you off the ice. We recommend staying on a resort road if you are looking to drive with a vehicle, otherwise something with tracks is highly recommended for traveling across the lake. Snowmobiles will be the best form of travel, just dress warm! If you have any other questions with spots, tactics or anything else fishing related, stop into Reed's Sporting Goods and talk with one of our many fishing experts.
