Fr though!! I was honest to god traumatized after watching this movie and I just can't believe that a movie would make me feel that way. I grew up watching horror movies since I was a toddler so nothing really scares me but when it comes psychological kinda things like this I just can't. The only other movie that had me messed up was the devils candy and the impossible but this one still takes the cake for the most traumatizing movie I've watched 😬

What got me about that scene was how helpless Peter was. Just completely helpless, cornered, not knowing what to do. The headbanging was one thing. On its own it's nothing to me, but Peter's state at that moment was what got to me.

SPOILER: If you listen carefully at the end when Annie is chasing Peter, you can hear her pluck a string out of the piano. That's what she uses to saw her own head off in the next scene. Also, good call, BJ, Joanie was totally setting Annie up. She fed her that story about a psychic medium and her grandson to cover for the fact that they're communing with a literal demon, to trick Annie into performing the ritual on her own later. The entire purpose of the cult was to get Paimon out of Charlie and into Peter. And they succeeded! Incredible reaction, you two are so much fun to watch. Sweet dreams, Asia!

@@anupv63 Paimon desires a male host. It's implied that Uncle Charlie, Annie's brother was the intended host however he un-alived himself to avoid it. I guess Annie subliminally knew this because Grandma was not allow around Peter however when Charlie was born Annie "gave her" to Grandma.

The fact that Toni Collette was snubbed for even a NOMINATION at the Oscars for this role should be considered a crime. Also, the dinner scene has so much tension in the movie and when I saw this in theaters, I felt like I got yelled at by Toni Collette and that's how good she is in this movie.

I really didn't find it that scarry tbh. Me and my nephew watched it this weekend, I could tell where it was going by the title, I knew one of the kids had to inherit something from granny, and that granny had taken control of the girl, I also thought t myself her disfigurement was because of a failed abortion, and the "Friend" was a plant of the mother. Maybe me understanding took away some of the edge. The only thing I did not get was the boy becoming king via the daughter taking over. I thought it tried too hard to be "freaky" and it just made it unrealistic. To this day the Exorcist still gets me because its seems realistic. But alas, since I have been a Christian (1986) not much of this stuff scares me. Demons are really weak punks,

Asia was so spellbound at times she couldn't even remember to lift her blanket. BJ was so shocked at certain moments that he looked ready to square up with whatever demon/ghost/monster might jump out of the screen.

This was such a great reaction! As one of the people who suggested you watch this...I'm sorry 😂 Also just to give a little context, Annie's mother was the leader of a satanic cult that wanted to resurrect the spirit of Paimon in order to get worldly riches but he would need a male body. However, since Annie kept her mother away from Peter (the son) they weren't able to give Paimon a male body, thus they put him inside of Charlie. Over the course of the movie the cult is basically watching and manipulating the family in order to weaken Peter so that Paimon can take over his body. It was the cult in the attic kneeling before Peter/Paimon at the end (they were also responsible for the footsteps, digging up the grave, putting nuts in the cake....pretty much everything that happened. If you notice, one of Peter's friends is also in the cult, you can see him kneeling in the attic!) Also the sound Annie was making in the attic that sounded like the scribbling in the notebook was her cutting her head off with a piano wire. You can hear a loud noise while Peter is walking through the house at night and that was her taking the wire out of the piano.

There WAS sketching sounds when the entity was drawing in Charlie's notebook. That first sound you questioned tho was Annie ripping out a piano wire then flipping it over (you can see it in the dark shadows on it's side when Peter came downstairs to find Steven dead). The second sound you questioned was not sketching, but the piano wire cutting through Annie's neck, Asia was right. Notice the picture of Paimon in the book was holding three heads on a string......the ritual needed the grandmother 's head, Charlie's head, and Annie's head for the possession to be complete [into the male host of Peter]. Yes, Joan was playing Annie all along (the entire cult was too). Joan made up the story about her son and grandson drowning. If you look closely, Joan had just bought the chalkboard and put it in her trunk as she saw Annie at the store parking lot. Annie did not dig up her mother's grave, the cult did. If you listen closely, you can hear the grandmother's body being placed in the attic when they walked in the house from the funeral.

There are a million little subtle details in this movie that give everything away from the beginning that you would only notice if you watched it a second time and even a third time. The overall idea of the plot is that this family is already doomed from the beginning. They are the sacrificial lamb. A couple very subtle details you can see from the beginning is at the wake. The people at the wake are the members of the grandmother's cult. The smiling man there is the same one standing in the doorway when the son finds his dad burnt. Another is the woman touching the grandmother's lips. She is placing a black herb in her mouth to make her soul easier to be taken. That black herb pops up more in the movie. There is a picture of the grandmother feeding Charlie a bottle as a baby with the black herb in the bottle. When Joan is giving the mom tea, that black herb is in the tea as well. One last detail that I will tell you are the rugs that the grandmother makes. There are pictures of black herbs on them and also a compass that if you pay attention to, the northwest point is larger than the others. This is because Paimon is the king of the northwestern part of Hell. I LOVE when movies do stuff like this. It is so much deeper than you think at first glance.

Toni Collette was robbed of an Oscar for this performance. She was absolutely amazing. Also Ari Aster said in an interview that Charlie was never Charlie. Paimon was possessing her before she was even born hence why she never cried.

I am so glad you guys watched this. A great horror film with so many layers. Remember in her crisis meeting she said her brother went crazy and hung himself saying his mother was "trying to put people in him," i think this was another attempt to possess a male family member with this demon. Another great movie from this director is Midsommar

Poor Annie, I think she figured out that her mom wanted to do something evil to the family... that's why she kept her away from Peter, her first born child. Then she relented when Charlie was born and her mom put Paimon inside her without her knowledge. The sleepwalking where she nearly set fire to herself and both her children was her unconscious mind knowing they were all in danger and that death would have been better. Even though her husband thought she was going nuts, she was actually aware of the danger unlike him. Tragically, she was tricked by Joanie to utter words she didn't know the meaning of in the seance and ended up first possessed by her daughter's spirit then by Paimon resulting in her own death.

Ohhhh *that’s* why this gave me the same feeling of dread as Midsommar. I’d never seen Hereditary before this video (thought this would be an easier way to stomach it) and I had to turn Midsommar off very early in the movie. For me it’s not the horror, it’s the graphic death that gets a little too visceral for me.

I say skip Midsommar and go for "The Witch" instead. Midsommar got a bit silly, in that the main characters were not smart enough to figure out the obvious, and stayed through the horror anyways. Hard for me to sympathize with stupid. The Witch, just seems more like inescapable horror, like Hereditary. Plus the sub-dialect used in the movie is interesting method of talking that captures your attention.

@@vilefly I love Midsommar, it's quite creepy with it's pastoral sunny landscape hiding the real intentions of the community. I don't think the characters are dumb.... *spoilers* the British couple do try and leave after the ceremony, the main boyfriend and the fool are seduced with promises of sex and the main boyfriend and black friend are doing theses on the community. The heroine is dealing with her emotional grief, and they've all been doing plenty of drugs. Neither the first ceremony or the love potion stuff is a threat to them. Once the American friends start disappearing it's all in one day. How exactly were they dumb?

The matriarch, Grandma, was a Satanist and wanted to possess Peter originally but mom kept Granny at a distance so the daughter, Charlie, became the next target where Paemon resided. Grandma needed a male, so concocted a plan to possess Peter by killing the daughter where Paemon was inhabiting initially and used the families grief to divide them and ultimately had Paemon take over Peter's body so that he may live on Earth as a King reborn. Very scary and disturbing plot, the music and little quips of terror here and there really drive this film until the finale. One of the scariest movies ever made.

Tony Collette the lead female in this film is brilliant! You guys have seen her as the mom in the Sixth Sense. She looks so different from one role to another,its easy to miss her. She did a series about 10 years ago called UNITED STATES OF TARA, it ran for about 3 or 4 seasons. I loved it. She played a woman with multiple personalities , it was never dull for sure with that show.

As a lover of horror movies for a good 15+ years now since I was a young kid. This one shocked me. I audibly gasped in the cinema when the pole scene happened and my partner at the time and I were speechless at how this movie was so traumatic. And you can bet as soon as the director of this movie announced (Midsommar) he was doing a new movie I was first in line when it came out.

My #3 Horror Movie of All Time. The people in the treehouse at the end were members of Paimon’s coven. The Grandmother was in charge of the coven, with Joanie assuming command after her “death.” The voice in the treehouse talking to Paimon (Peter) was Joanie’s. Some of the naked cult members at the end were shown earlier in the movie-like the really blonde dude with the creepy smile at the grandmother’s funeral, smiling at Charlie was the same one naked in the house smiling at Peter in the last act. The spirit of Paimon was temporarily being housed in various people-Charlie and Annie-but the ultimate goal of the coven was to put him In Peter. The way to move Paimon from one body to another involved cutting the heads off. Excellent reaction, and I’m glad it took you on a ride! I’m jealous that I can’t watch it again for the first time! Love that Asia was hot and her neck hairs were standing up!

This was everything I wanted and more in a reaction! Yes, one of the scariest movies ever! How Toni collette didn’t get an Oscar nod is astounding. Yes the mom was sawing off her head. Paymon has three heads at his side. One of the demons. He possesses the mom, the grandmother sold her soul. And Charlie was supposed to be male so she could be paymon. This movie is so complex. I have watched it hundreds of times and still see new things. Love you both!❤

It's crazy how many people seem to miss 38:20 when day switches to night and the house is suddenly absolutely surrounded by naked cultists. Love little sounds and visuals hidden in the background to fill in the story. Like how you hear people shuffling around the house before the family feturn from the funeral, or how when Joan appears in the car park she has her chalkboard, newly purchased, in the boot of the car.

The demon was in the little girl. The demon was making the click sound. The grandmother was organising everything from the beginning. But the demon wanted to be in a male body, so the coven was organising for the demon to transfer into the son.

My comment from another reaction to this movie: Annie's mom was the queen of the cult of Paimon. She's the queen because she's married to Paimon (her in the wedding dress when she's old in that photo album), and was trying to summon Paimon. She first tried with her husband, which is why he starved himself to death. Then she tried with her son (Annie's brother) who hanged himself. Since Annie had cut her off from her grandson (Peter) she and the cult compromised and used Charlie as a temporary vessel. Charlie was always possessed by Paimon. But Paimon needs a male vessel, so the cult was orchestrating everything behind the scenes to break Peter down so that he could be possessed by Paimon. The cult members dig up the grave and place the body in the attic. You can her them running around when the family returns from the wake/funeral. You also see a cult member observing Peter from the tree house when he's smoking in his room at night. Paimon also needs 3 sacrifices/decapitations. That's Charlie, the grandma, and Annie. Plenty of Peter's friends, teachers, and the entire grief counseling group etc are actually part of the cult. Notice they're standing around laughing and smiling when Annie arrives there the first time and is in the parking lot indecisive. The sound from the drawings and Annie sawing her head in the attic aren't the same. Annie rips out a piano wire before she chases Peter and uses that to decapitate herself.

The sound design in this movie was top notch. If you listen close, right before the family comes in the house from Granny's Funeral, you can hear footsteps in the house. That was the cult memebers moving stuff in the house. I had to rewatch this movie about 3 times to catch everything. Ari Aster is a BRILLIANT film maker.

Y'all thís one is the scariest movie that you have reacted to, thus far. When this movie came out, I was speechless (which is rare haha). It just really takes you on a psychological rollercoaster throughout the movie, then when it ends you're like, "WTF! 😮" Great reaction to a mind bending movie! Sending y'all positive vibes and hope y'all get some sleep. Sometimes when I watch a super scary movie, I watch something that is a comedy that will help me before calling it a night. I laughed so hard. I kept my eyes on BJ the whole time because he was freaked out from the beginning. I was crying laughing at the end. 🤣😭 You guys gotta watch Toni Collette in one of her first movies, MURIEL'S WEDDING. It's the complete opposite of something like this. It's a happy movie with lots of great songs. 🙏🏼

You guys are the best movie reactors on KZfaq! OMG, you were getting me scared and I've seen the movie before, twice! LOL. I was jumping and laughing along with you all. This movie is so terrifying that you have to laugh at some points just so your head doesn't fly off ... I think along with Joan, all those other people were part of a cult that was working with Joan to bring you-know-who (I'm not saying that name either!) back. I think the cult probably dug up the grave and brought the body back to the house. I don't think Annie could've done all that on her own. ... No matter what though, this movie is so disturbing I still get chills thinking about it ....

I like how Asia covers her eyes but knows evening that's going on and catches every little thing, yet the guy is watching it all and misses and misunderstands things😂. Yes the sound is the mother beheading herself with wire.

one of the best modern horror movies idgaf! such incredible performances! edit: rewatching this knowing about the lore, the scene with the mum sleepwalking and her painful conversation with her son hits SO differently, almost as if Sleepwalking Mum knew the fate that would come and wanted to save him by wanting to miscarry

The 3 dead women Charlie, Annie and Leah, were symbolic of the holy trinity. Also, there is a piano tipped over once Annie is possessed that you find out about here and she cut off her head with piano wire.

About Annie making a model of the accident: this is actually a super common thing for artists to do, exploring their feelings (especially painful ones) through their artwork. It's actually considered a healthy practice, since it allows the artist an outlet for their feelings and a way to sort of make themselves face their own feelings and experiences and it can help with processing difficult events! So yeah, it LOOKS really bad and scary, and I'm sure it WOULD have upset Peter had he seen it, but in Annie's defense, it's actually a very normal and even beneficial thing that artists do when we're troubled-- processing difficult emotions through our artwork in some way or another. You see it everywhere-- paintings, music, theater, all forms of artwork can and have been used to help the artist cope with or understand something they're going through. I myself have personally used writing and drawing to work through complicated and painful personal emotions and experiences before! If nothing else, it's a safe way to vent your feelings and get them out of your head. Sorry for the rant! I just see a lot of folks demonizing Annie's actions there or balking at the idea of it, and I thought I would clarify that making artwork reflecting or focusing on a traumatic event that you've experienced is a totally normal and healthy way to help yourself process something. I just don't want any other artists seeing folks call it out to feel like they aren't allowed to make art that might disturb or frighten others if it's something that might help them heal from an otherwise difficult and painful time in their lives.

Toni Collette (Annie) should have won the damn Oscar for this. The whole cast is great but I think she plays the slow descent into insanity/possession better than anyone I've ever seen. She's an amazing actor and this is one of her best performances IMO. It's kind of hard to pick up on the whole story on the first viewing of this movie. From the opening shots it gets you feeling so unsettled and uncomfortable that it makes it hard to see (and hear) all the minor details that make everything make sense. You guys got most of it...but I 100% understand not wanting to watch this a second time just to get those last few details you missed. Great reaction as always!

This has got to be an instant classic! IDK something about family trauma, the turmoil, and witchcraftish voodoo type of horror. Look, gore and body parts (well there's that here too) can be squeamish. But, this type of stuff is absolutely the BEST for horror fans!

Probably my favorite ACTUALLY scary horror film since The Exorcist for me. The ceiling scenes and Peter walking through the house absolutely terrified me when I first saw it. I lived alone in a creaky, old apartment by train tracks, had all the lights turned off, and when the mother began running, a train blew its horn and I almost filled my pants! I definitely felt both of your reactions! Love this channel, now time for Midsommar! Hahaha.

The strange symboy of the cult that's appearing at different points of the movie is a representation of the three severed heads, the necessary sacrifice to summin Paimon. There is even a drawn picture of him, in that book, displaying the deamon mounting a camel... and those three heads are hanging down the saddle.
