*Which character in Mean Girls is your favorite?!*
@growingupwithdisney7 ай бұрын
Gretchen, she's so funny to me for some reason, and I understand her completely. Never seen this 2024 version though, I hope the girl casted does good. The 2004 Gretchen used to kind whisper when she talks and I think it made her lines funnier, like "omg Karen you can't just ask people why they're white"

I’m definitely seeing this in theaters. I’m a huge theater nerd and while Mean Girls isn’t my favorite musical (Heathers is superior) I will always support a musical that hires Broadway actors for the roles.

i’m a massive musical they are nerd too, and mean girls is one of my favourite musicals, and i haven’t seen the movie, but the soundtrack has just come out and they’ve basically made it into a pop soundtrack. It has not been made to appeal to us theatre kids, it’s been made to appeal to haters of musical theatre, and I don’t think it’s going to impress either of these groups of people.

I've been a big fan of the original movie since it came out. While I haven't seen the musical adaptation, I have heard the soundtrack a handful of times and seen clips online when it was still on Broadway and was little underwhelmed/disappointed so I was hoping maybe it was the medium and limitations of a stage and that giving the musical a movie treatment might help.. but still worried when the trailers sent mixed messages. Think I'll enjoy it, but will wait to streaming. Nice review James!

Hi James, Liked & subscribed ✅ I attempt to review movies 🤣 from a celebrate recovery 12 Step perspective in YT shorts. I really enjoyed your review, it gave me a good insight 👍. I scored the movie an A+. I lost my father recently. Now I care give for my mom who just had a stroke so I don't look too deep into the movies. So really enjoy seeing movie reviews like yours. In my review I stated it was mean girls 2004 meets silly songs with Larry from VeggieTales 😂 I enjoyed having a few hours to laugh and be human again 🙏 thanks again keep up the great work.

The music in the broadway musical is wayyy better. They tried to pop-ify the music in the screen adaptation but it doesn’t work!

I actually liked the broadway musical but hated the songs. If only they’re allowed to hire better songwriters for the movie then it would be great
@ReelJames7 ай бұрын
Yeeeah, the songs were lacking a bit too often in the movie musical, so I can imagine how it played out on Broadway.

I feel you. Not too much of a fan of the Broadway music but I think they work or are a lot easier to digest in this movie. I liked the movie more than I thought I would.

Like you I am a millennial. When it comes to the new Mean Girls 2024 out of 10 I would give it a 5. I did not hate it or love it. I disagree with you on Janis as I liked her being more of a jerk the character was in the original. To me the problem overall with the film was the mean girls where not mean.

What songs from the movie, in your opinion, were strong and which weren’t as strong? For example, I think we can understand that the opening song in Africa is incredibly weak after watching your review (plus it’s a different and somewhat stronger song in the stage musical). Also if you get a chance I’d say go listen to the Broadway Musical Album and pay attention to the songs that were cut/replaced and compare them to the songs that made it in the film. Enjoyed your review! :)

as someone who is obsessed with the broadway musical, of course i was comparing them both in my mind the whole time. the stage musical is leagues better in my opinion... if you ever have the chance to see the musical, please do, it has so much more energy lots of edits as i watch lol: i think agourie was fine, but because i've already seen renee as regina, she pretty much played her the same way as she did on broadway

Sorry for your impression about Reneé Rapps voice or perfomance. Please check TerrellShow with her. She could sing the whole musical on her own on a high level and every interview shes funny as hell. In this film they muted and filterd everything. But she really is a massiv deal in acting and singing....saturday 20th January on SNL

I loved the movie I disagree I loved the songs and had a great time with it and I loved the actress who played Katie I disagree I agree with Regina but that’s my only complaint. And I thought she was the main character the whole movie I didn’t understand what you said about the movie focusing more on her on the second part. I loved the movie.
@vicentemariani87307 ай бұрын
I mean Cady
@ReelJames7 ай бұрын
I'm so glad you loved the film! The second half of the movie definitely tries to focus more on Cady because we're getting her transition to becoming a Plastic, leading Karen and Gretchen after Regina George is basically kicked out of their clique. My problem is the movie doesn't really build to that moment very well.

I think I'll wait to see it when it's available for streaming. I saw a production of the stage musical and I found it to be mediocre, with the material being watered down and the songwriting to be amateur (Carrie the Musical deserved a longer run on Broadway than this show).
