Spain had 24hrs more rest before the final? Spain had to go through Germany and France while England, after making a meal of Slovakia, got the Swiss and a mediocre Dutch side. England should have been able to rest through the whole tournament prior to the final.

England also played more matches that went to extra time or penalties. On top of having 1 less day to recover for the final. But I don't think any of that even matters. They were mediocre as it gets at this tournament and lacked ideas and team chemistry and Spain were brilliant. Spain would have won either way imo.

Going into this tournament, a lot of us were backing France England Germany and Portugal over Spain as serious contenders to win the EUROs. Football absolutely won today and Spain deserved to win the title because as the tournament progressed, it was clear to a lot of people that they were a level above everyone and it wasn’t even close. On their route to the final, they managed to top a challenging group that had Croatia and Italy by having a perfect win record, and in the knockout stages they eased their way past Georgia beating them 4-1 after being behind initially and then they beat the likes of France and Germany respectively before beating England in the final where they were the much better team and managed to win the EUROs winning every single game in the process. They did all of this while playing breathtaking football and they looked unstoppable for most stretches of this tournament and they had this ability of getting results and it was inevitable that they were going to win even if they fell behind or conceded an equalizer. Unlike certain teams luck was on their side at times, at least they didn’t have to rely on penalties as they took care of business and just won games. Even in the final today where they took the lead in the 2nd half and then conceded after that, you knew that they were going to win. The way they play makes them an exciting team to watch because as a whole, they’ve evolved as they went from being a team that was reliant on possession 1,000 passes a game where they play 6 midfielders and their wide players are inverted midfielders, since they have Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams who were on fire, they were able to be more direct as both of them are exactly everything you want in a proper winger and they moved the ball so well and defended when they needed to. Luis Del La Fuente got everything right and he made this team fully click on all cylinders: The future looks very bright for this team and after winning the EUROs while being so dominant, it’ll be interesting to see what this group of players that Spain have at their disposal will achieve in the coming years.

I feel like defenders always get shafted, but you're right, Carvajal is a decent shout. I think rodri has better chances though, and he's a bigger name overall. He also has a bigger influence on how his teams play.

"What more does Carvajal have to do" Be a better and more influential player lol The Ballon d'Or is essentially the MVP award awarded to that year's best overall player. Carvajal is not even the best player on his own teams. He's not even top 3 best player on his own teams. He's just your typical solid player who happens to play for RM and Spain. 2 very good teams that win a lot. And so he reaps the rewards and wins lots of trophies. Just like all the other RM players. But he's not THE reason RM or Spain win trophies. He's just a cog in the wheel. He does his job well. But he's not as important like CR7 or Benzema was. Or Vini Jr and Bellingham. Or Modric and Kroos. And on the national team he wasn't better than Rodri, or Yamal, or Nico, or Fabian Ruiz or Olmo. Awarding him the Ballon d'Or would be ridiculous. Yes, trophies are important. But that's a tie breaker for guys who are already top 3 or top 5 candidates for Ballon d'Or. Carvajal was never that. Ballon d'Or is not a "most trophies" award. Otherwise they should have give it to Julian Alvarez last year. Which would have been a comical choice. You have to be in the actual discussion as the best player on the planet. Which Carvajal is nowhere near.

And then, he is not "just ok"; he is absolutely awesome!! He defends, assists, reads the match, he is in the right place at the right time, he can strike brilliantly..WOW. he is just incredible. He missed some chances, but so have all the legendary players at their prime like Messi, Ronaldo or even Maradona. You should see whole matches not just highlights.

The best tournament team since the last great Spain team a dozen years ago. Not as good as that one (no international team for a long time will be), but there isn't anything this team couldn't do. The best midfield in the tournament by far, but with the ability to go much more direct with their wingers. And to adapt from the quarters onwards losing Pedri and replacing him with a much different player in Olmo, and still beat France and England. Absolutely incredible team, Felicidades 🇪🇸👍🏻

I actually think the fact that they don't enjoy quite the same amount of possession as those older Spain teams is what helped this Spanish side. Because they got to hit on the counters a lot more and exploit those spaces with the pace and skills of Nico and Yamal. They looked most dangerous when in transition. They remind me of how RM plays. They dominate when they can, but they also don't mind absorbing some pressure and hitting on the breaks when they can. They played great football imo and could adapt well to different situations and hurt you in different ways. Most teams when their plan A goes out the window become frustrated and stifled. But Spain just figured things out no matter what the situation was. They never seemed rattled. Never seemed frustrated. Never seemed like they weren't in full control, even when the opposition had the ball. Worthy winners for sure.

Stats dont lie. Germany had more ball possession, created the more gilt-edged chances, and took spain to added extra time so it seems an open and shut case. You also have the spanish players comments themselves; they all cited the german team as the toughest game

As for the anthem, can't you hear the supporters singing "lolo lolo lolololololo lolo lo lo lo" hahahahahahah, we love to sing it like that, or at least I do; it takes the political edge off and it is funny!! The players, obviously, don't do that because they have to behave themselves, so to speak. Anyway, how does saying "God save the king" makes your anthem better? England lost because of two reasons. 1) Spain were quicker to the ball and were more threatening in possession 2) They didnt start Watkins and Palmer. Clearly 2 of their better players.

Southgate actually made good moves... but waited an hour. England got about 80% better the minute Kane came off. Against most teams they had a chance. But Spain are just better. Better players, better manager, better team.

I think it's a bit harsh to say *all* of the English players were terrible. Mainoo was arguably the most consistent player for them throughout the tournament, despite having a pretty poor final. Palmer, Toney, and Watkins played their parts well (and should've been played more tbf). Same with Shaw with the few minutes he had, especially coming back from a 5-month injury. It's the big "stars" like Kane, Bellingham, Rice, and Foden that were dreadful for the majority of the tournament.
