I think too many people become obsessed with the gear and brands, so forgetting to enjoy the beauty of photography and nature. It’s also too easy to forget just how amazing times we live and spoiled we are with the technology.

At the end of the day, it's all about having fun. Being in nature, cycling, climbing and walking. Observe animals, landscapes, insects and plants. And photograph and capture those moments. The OM System allows you to have that! The focus is on being there! And the quality of the images is in most circumstances excellent. Of course there are options that provide better IQ! But in general these other options provide less fun! And the experience is limited by the equipment.

Dennis, have you considered Nikon Z8 and Z9 and the Z series lenses like the 180-600 mm f/5.6-6.3, 600 mm f/6.3, and the 800 f/6.3? The cameras and lenses are much heavier than your OM Systems camera. However, for wildlife photography Nikon offers great image quality, fast autofocus with subject eye detection and tracking that rival the Sony A1. Nikon has excellent price:performance ratio and an excellent track record of frequent, substantive firmware updates.

Well that certainly is a great walkabout combination. Not sure I will quit on Sony just yet though. Great to see improvements in all the system Awesome

100% agree that the AF on static subjects is super, and BIF is good, but not super. Then again I do sometimes get surprised by those results too. I still think a firmware update to improve the AF performance further is required. But no other gear can beat it’s lightweight convenience to walk around.

I agree with you regarding Sony’s lack of support for the A1. I’m not changing just yet but may do if Sony do not give the A1 the features the lower models have.

Surprised your giving up on the Sony the images were amazing surely that was all part of the enjoyment capturing the moment.

I’m using my OM-1 for wildlife photography also but I don’t think it shoots videos with subject detection either ?

Rumors has it that Om system will release two telephoto lens with 50-250 f4 and 50-200 f2.8 which can be good options for us

hi Dennis nice sharp pictures. I shoot with the Canon R3, and the AF is also sometimes quite wrong. it is and remains technology. the lenses are of top quality and very sharp.

Mike Lane and Daniel J Cox made the same movement! They also love to work with the OM system

Have you looked at Nikon at all Dennis? Currently the best glass (options wise) in my opinion, camera bodies are catching up (more or less same) now as Sony/Canon

A bit of a surprise your sold your Sony gear. It is hard to match A1 AF even Z9 or R5 I think. So I think you have been spoiled :-) I have found my OM-1 AF with 300mm F4 to be just as good or better than R5 with 600mm F4. The better part might have to do with the shooter. My friend is a lot better than I am with his eyes for composition but i have better reaction. I have found AF to be close to 100% when there is no busy foreground or background for BIF. Additionally, I have found SH2 (25fps) produce less sharp image % than just regular e-silence (20fps). You might end up with more images to choose with SH2 but the accuracy is less for BIF from my experiences using it for over a year now.

I also have the OM-1 and M. Zuiko 150-400 and find it's fantastic but I also have the Canon R3 with the RF 100-500 that I love but I am waiting for the Canon R5II and I'll see because canon glass is way expensive and the RF 200-500 won't be cheap, Will you be getting rid of the OM-1 and 150-400? I kind of think we have it made with OM System and look at it this way you'll be cropping way more with FF than you will with OM;)

Did you sell your 600GM? I didn’t want to but sold mine for the 150-400.

I came to Sony from Olympus. I miss the Olympus form factor and most of all Pro Capture but it seems there is nothing to touch the Af of Sony when talking about Flying birds.

I hope Sony watches this video! As a Sony user I'm really sorry about this.

Canon has some interesting developments but their decision to shut 3rd party lens manufacturers out caused me to drop them from my watchlist.

I think Sony are making a big mistake not continuing to improve firmware on their high end camera’s. They prefer to release a new camera. If you invest big bucks in their top of the range camera’s and their new low budget models have better AF settings, users are going to abandon Sony. There is a balance between firmware upgrades and new models but not striving to keep their flagship models the best is a bad decision from Sony.

You wont go for Sony then as they abandon their customers ..like A9 users and hardly any updates...So disapointing..
