“Reform UK WON’T Be A Force In Politics To Supplant Tories” Ex-Defence Minister On Election Defeat

Talk’s Jeremy Kyle is joined by former Conservative defence minister Sir Gerald Howarth to discuss the General Election results.
Sir Gerald believes the party “can come back quickly” after they lost more than 250 seats.
They also touch on Sir Keir Starmer’s first NATO summit as Prime Minister.
He has refused to guarantee that he will meet his flagship commitment on defence spending within his first term in office, despite a “cast iron” promise to get there.

For now. They said the same about Labour after Blair/Brown. People have the attention span of gnats and no interest in history or politics. Having said that, the 'Tories' have been deliberately self-destructing and don't deserve to survive. Cameron Johnson and May were Lib Dems in disguise.

They probably aren't - equilibrium of two party systems usually brings back parties after these kinds of defeats. We thought in Australia that Labor was going to split into 2 parties after a bruising set of flip flops between Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd as leader where 2 warring factions wanted each respective leader. Very likely the Tories pick a leader with some guts and rapidly reclaim some momentum I'd love for Reform to skyrocket, don't get me wrong

Another old school Tory completely out of touch, which is why the phrase now turns everyone off politicians who even whiff of it. It now means a self satisfied, middle class, Conservative elitist, who thinks that his class know better than anyone else, where a popular policy that the people might vote for is derided as populism, and who think they are a civilising influence over the great unwashed, which was the core Brexit vote and the very reason the Tories would not leave the ECHR. i used to vote tory but when 1st johnson then truss then sunak led them ( utterly hopless ) then when sunak did NOTHING to keep the price of gas/electricity down ..( he could have divorced electricity from the price of gas ) he did not because he wanted the extra VAT money and kept offgem price high for the same reason.. IDIOT sunak electricity bills went sky high in firms WHO then put there prices up to cover costs....this in turn increased inflation and the BOE put the interest rates up...which AGAIN meant the government needed more money to pay the interest ( so frozen tax code were kept ) and hunt went after windfall taxes ..and the poor of this country. peopel wanted high wages to pay the bills. ( once the higher prices went in ) the food prices droped because the prices allready had happened ( leveled off ) so inflation droped ..what did hunt do budget wise reduced NI because it meant firms payed less NI as well. and we pay tax on wages after NI is deducted. ( keep the backers sweet ) GOOD RIDDANCE SUNAK/HUNT

My generation will always vote Labour. That stigma that Reform are racists and that Nigel Farage is a bad person or that they dont care for welfare of cotizens blah blah blah is something the media keep spinning. I voted Reform. Im proud i voted reform. The country needs this, even i can see that with my volunteered lack of understanding in politics.

A view from the Uk. You don't THINK, don't you mean you HOPE they don't become a major force in politics. (2.30mins in). And another thing, why are people now talking about the Tories with a 'Left' or 'Right' of the party. To us earthlings they are a right wing party full stop. Is this a way to attract potential members of the public that have very little conception of what parties stand for?

Reform will be a political force for both Labour and Tories to worry about in the future. It was over 4 million voted for them this time. After 5 years of Labour it will be millions more vote for them. People have had enough of the two party system and the anti British uni party of Lab/cons.

Howarth is content for the Tory Party to get slaughtered and then he wants the Reform Party to fail, even though, many millions of traditional Tory supporters voted for Reform. Howarth sums up the smugness and complacency of a completely dysfunctional political party, who feels that the wheel of fortune will eventually turn in their direction.
