I loved the primera miracle seed essence, was my favourite skincare product and when i purchased it the first time was the most expensive skincare product i ever bought and you and liah convinced me to buy it, it was really hydrating and kind of soothing and when i put it on my skin i felt that instant relief, i have a quarter of the second bottle i've bought left because since i've seen it's been reformulated i started hoarding this; i won't purchase the new formulation since to me 50$ it's quite expensive for a single product unless they are willing to bring the original formula back, thank you for your comparison

I feel you, it's so expensive but to me was worth it. Now I'm not so sure if I'd shell out the cash for the new version. Wish I had an old bottle with more left!

This was actually painful after i saw it was reformulated. It was a splendid piece of skincare. Looking at the ingredients the new formula is abysmal. The Lotus Seed is actually at the end…The old formula was my fave skincare item of all time. I will never understand why brands do this. Like shooting themselves in the foot.

Thanks Kelly! I so agree with you on the renewed Primera Miracle Seed Essence. I use to love the older version, and now it has lost it's magic. I experience the texture as thicker and not as deeply hydrating. I'll still use up my bottle, but I may not reorder it again. Such a bummer! I adored the older version.

How you mentioned that the primera miracle seed essence was probably reformulated to broaden the audience, I think that makes sense also why they took out the sodium hyaluronate. That ingredient doesn't work so well in all areas of the world (works best in humid environments) so that's what appeals to me now. I want to try skincare without hyaluronic acid since it has the opposite effect in dry environments and dehydrates your skin from deeper levels to bring water to the surface if your environment can't provide the water to bind. Bummer that they lowered the lotus seed extract so much... that has me on the fence now... the price probably doesn't make sense now since the "miracle seed" ingredient was lowered so much they don't even disclose the percentage. I'll keep this item in the back of my mind, but I'll keep looking for something else. Thanks for the review Kelly!

Hey Kelly, absolutely love your content and it was originally your video 2 years back that convinced me and helped me make a rationale and justified purchase inspite of its price point and since then I have used up another 2 bottles and there’s one backup which I don’t feel like using up anytime soon as soon as I heard they have reformulated and upon reading the ingredient list they have watered down the original formula with a bunch of fillers and that makes me genuinely mad for disrupting such a perfectly formulated essence that boosted the hydration level along with giving a much more clear and glowy skin

I actually had no idea it used to have oils! and a ceramide. I'm actually a big fan of the "new formulation. I love that it's oil free! although not the happiest that it lost the ceramide. I do find its amazing for my skin barrier. in the summer its all i need for a prep step!

I recently got the First Aid Beauty Oat Repair Toner -- right after they changed the formula (without announcing it). All of the good ingredients are below 1% of the product now! I was so excited to try it but ended up returning it after a couple of uses.

Great video as always 🙏🏼 I never tried the old “honey” mask from cosrx, I watched an older this or that where you compared it to the iunik propolis mask. So I went with iunik, but I really want to try the new version from cosrx. Found it on sale, so I’m going to order it today 🍯✨ thank you for always doing these in-depth reviews and comparisons 😄

@@Jl2damax could be. New formula is definitely cheaper to produce. They should have just discontinued it though if they were not making good enough profit margins. It just seems dishonest to me to have such a different formula being packaged under the same name of an existing product with a large following.

This video had a happy news and sad news for me, I bought the rovectin essence last night and now I'm so happy, on the other hand, I wanted to have a primera miracle seed essence so much but now I have a doubt about it, wish they didn't reformulate this one. I’m excited about the CosRX upgrade, mostly b/c my skin can be sensitive to castor oil for some reason. I have the old version (I bought at your suggestion but didn’t read the ingredients fully😩) and haven’t had any breakouts from it but I also don’t use it that often.

Same. For my dehydrated skin, I have to put multiple layers of the new miracle essence to feel the same level of hydration as one layer of the original one. It also doesn't absorb well after I use the I'm from honey mask. I also feel there's more slip on this one compared to the original, which is like water on skin. Absolute shame.

Love the content! Please do more reformulation reviews. One of my favorite toners - First Aid Beauty oat toner got a new formulation and some star ingredients are now moved to the bottom of the ingredient list. Such a bummer!

I guess thats why the primera was actually closer to my price range last stylevana shop. I didn't get it this time because I noticed the 'new formula'. Ill wait to see if people like it as much as the previous version I guess before i decide if its back out of my price range.

Great topic. I was so disappointed to recently discover that my beloved Secret key starting treatment essence rose edition has been reformulated also. Just like the miracle seed essence key ingredients are now missing. I remember you speaking about the secret kay previously and would love to see a follow up to this video with your thoughts on the new formula.

I'm glad I'm not the only one always checking out what is actually on Kellys skicare organizer. Have you tried other artemisia toners as well? I'm fully devoted to my Missha Artemisia toner (I put it in the mist bottle since the spray is just divine and super easy to use) but would not be opposed to try other artemisia toners.

Other than Aprilskin, I tried before the I'm From Mugwort Essence (not 'toner' but I treat it in the same way lol) Slightly thicker but very hydrating & calming! I'm From's one definitely wins for the calming part based on my experience.

I came to the comment section to ask exactly this. The artemisia essence changed from only having the extract to Water, Dipropylene Glycol, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Artemisia Annua Extract. Now Im really not sure how concentrated this is and think its sad, cuz the price stayed the same.

Not K-Beauty but First Aid Beauty recently "reformulated" a bunch of their products similar to the Primera Miracle Seed Essence. Only FAB haven't mentioned that they've done that which is super sketchy.

I really liked this, it would make a great series. The primera essence has been on my wishlist for years but I’ve never tried it because it’s very hard to get in my country. With this reformulation it has written itself straight off my list. I have a toner that has niacinamide and 3 O ethyl, so for me it was the lotus seed that made this sound so special. Is this why I’ve been finding primera at Marshall’s and ross? Omg I bought 5 of their toners for 15.99 each 🥲. I know it was greedy of me to drive around south Florida buying them all but I have no regrets. Edit: Ok now I’m sad, this reformulation is nothing short of tragic. Now I can’t justify that full price, price tag. After these it’s time to move on 😪

Hi Kelly at least they let the customer know it was reformulated - unlike first aid beauty. Their reformulations have been serious downgrades and I've stopped buying long term favourites for that reason. The primera may have suffered from a cutting of costs reformulation (like the FAB products) - as the high amount of lotus extract has probably shot up in price for the raw ingredient. This is what FAB did - changing from having good ingredients in higher concentrations to all the good stuff now being less than 1% (after phenoxyethanol and yes I'm still mad about it lol). The primera was always a slightly higher price point compared to some others and the cost of this cheaper formula hasn't gone down - more profit for them and less of the good stuff for us. I won't be trying the reformulation tbh - it just isn't as impressive. Best wishes.

Does the rovectin new version involve papaya extract?? I was afraid to use the old version because of papaya extract that can exfoliate the skin. It's gentle enzyme exfoliant but I want to avoid every kind of exfoliant, my skin is very sensitised.

I'm always afraid of reformulations since they often are not really better afterwards and I feel like it often happens when something got really popular (not meant to throw shade, just my experience). As always a great video. Sidenote: I love your beautiful flower top in combination with your hair and makeup, the glow is real. I'm envious since I'm going through some severe flaking, not cute, not cute at all ... but nothing the LRP cicaplast balm won't take care of in a couple of days.

Stylevana still has the original primera essence though it’s 20 dollars more and contains the cotton pads. Dunno if it’s worth the extra 20 bucks 🤷🏻 (I haven’t tried either versions but have always wanted to)

Does the new version of the Cosrx sleeping mask have any occlusive ingredients? They got rid of the dimethicone, one of my favorite occlusives, and I couldn't spot any others on the new ingredient list. Did I miss something?

I AM FURIOUS with FIRST AID BEAUTY reformulating 3 of my fav products from them ( staples in my routine and BESTSELLERS for them as a brand ) ESPECIALLY the hydrating serum.... it’s not the same, the consistency is close.... BUT THEY DID NOT LET THEIR CUSTOMERS/promoters know that these reformulations were taking place Brands being sneaky with reformulations of products is what bothers me the most... I know FAB isn’t k-beauty but still

FAB is shady AF. Always has been. They changed the ingredients for the Oat Toner completely, didn't update the ingredients list on the website, people were ordering this product from their website and receiving a COMPLETELY different product from what was described. I'm so done with them.

I'm 19.. I've oily sensitive skin.. My acne is never gone.. It does back almost everyday.. Because of acne, my spot aren’t also going.. I'm using cosrx salicylic cleanser, cosrx snail essence, tiam b3 source serum & cosrx oil free moisture. What should i do for preventing my acne??

I would change to a cleanser like Soon Jung and switch your moisturiser to the Cosrx Green Tea Aqua moisturiser as both don't have irritating essential oils like the Cosrx cleanser and oil free moisturiser you're using (I tried them and they aggravated my skin issues). The snail essence is great tho, haven't tried the serum. I would also use a leave on exfoliant like the Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid (which is what I use) or a Paula's Choice Exfoliant instead of in the cleanser because it's more effective. You could also use a pea size amount of benzol peroxide on your face to prevent breakouts (I use the acnecide 5% topical cream). Make sure to use sunscreen everyday, I use the Canmake Mermaid UV gel. Retinol is also helpful, I use the N07 1.5% Retinol complex, but it is pricey so you could try The Ordinary Granactive Retinol or Differin. This is strong stuff though, so start on lower doses and I would speak to a G.P. before using them, not necessarily a dermatologist because they are very expensive. If the issue is very severe and persistent it is always best to talk to a doctor.

Looks like an artemisia toner essence... I'm guessing Missha or Goodal. But big toner bottles are big in Korea, they're often sold as special editions. Like Olive Young promos.

The new formula for Primera is terrible. Makes me break out and causes flaking skin for me. The old formula literally cleared my skin from scars and acne. It was hydrating and the texture was perfect. Makes me so sad. It was the only thing that worked for my troubled skin. 😞

uhm both extract and water are generic terms actually and an extract may just as well have 99.9% water so this might just be Primera being honest about it. The point is "extract", "water", "ferment" and so on are terms that have no legal definition and we should not fall for any of them in my opinion. In this case anyway there was a notable price drop which should alert us more than the inci ;)

Absolutely, the INCI can only tell us so much and can't be the only thing we judge a product on. Formulation is incredibly nuanced and is not just about cherry picking ingredients off the list. I always strive to include ingredients, texture, experience and results in my reviews to give a fuller picture of each product (to the best of my ability).

@@KellyDriscoll yes Kelly that was not meant to criticise your work, I was just pointing out that most of the times (and quite often in Korean products) generic terms such as these are used and we never know whether they are used to hide something from us or just to make the preparation look more "natural" or the INCI less busy... the reality is we should ask the market to be more exhaustive and precise. This said I believe that if a brand has nothing to hide, it should be transparent at least when it comes to the flagship ingredient... too many times we see products named after a buzz word and then the percentage of that particular ingredient is like 1000ppm (eg. 0,01%). In this case there was also a price drop. Now we all appreciate cheap products and we all started with k-beauty because of that aspect I guess. Plus I am not saying that a product has to be expensive to be effective. Still, being into k-beauty for quite a while now, I noticed a big gap between cheap and midrange+ products... in the west just like in Asia. Price, like a detailed INCI, does not necessarily mean quality but it is at least an indication of a brand being confident about good quality raw materials (with a few exceptions of course).
