Refractive index, also called index of refraction, measure of the bending of a ray of light when passing from one medium into another.
Conventionally, glass slab is used in laboratory to know how refractive index of material is calculated. Everyday material is used to calculate refractive index of water instead of Glass.
Do try this at home with liquids like Oil, Saturated solution of salt and sugar, kerosene....

How would you account for the index of refraction of the container?

It can be ignored. It's thickness is very small. Readings are comparable with the formula

Thickness and refractive index are not related. But it depends on what you are planning to do with this thick acrylic sheet. It will be great if you can share some insights on your purpose. Let me explore if some activity can be built around thickness and refractive index !

doesn't the plastic also have a refractive index, so basically it goes through plastic, then water, then plastic again. so it goes through 3 mediums?

Yes. It has refractive index. But we can ignore it for this setup. It is very thin as compared to water medium

if we want to measure the how the concentration of sugar affects the refractive index, we will keep the angle of incidence constant right?

That's correct. Everything remains as is except the sugar solution concentration

Negligible. U can ignore. It's thickness is very small.

But sin (45) ÷ sin (32) is not 1.33. it is 1.54

This is incorrect. 45/32 = 1.406 not 1.333. I appreciate your effort but dont just say that it is that because you got the answer wrong. That means you are wrong and you should try harder to improve. How can you teach when you dont even know how to do it? Your technique is sound and makes sense nonetheless. but dont just write 1.333 because you searched up that the refractive index of water is 1.333.

We are dividing sin(45) by sin(32), right? That gives 1.334 .

no bro its sin45/sin32 so it is equals to 1.33

Actually, the video is right. You're supposed to do sin45/sin32 (which is 1.33) not 45/32. You shouldn't be so quick to assume the other person is wrong, especially when you're so confident and harsh about it.
