The Earth rotates counterclockwise around the Sun? What if you are looking from the other direction, south instead of north? Like many things, it depends on your perspective. Your relationship of Moon spinning around Earth is way off. The Moon spins around Earth just slightly faster than Earths rotation speed.

You are right. It depends from where you are viewing. I have mentioned that if we look all the way from above the north pole towards this sun, earth, moon system then its rotation is anti-clockwise. it will change if we look from down under !. Rotation of speed around earth is not to the scale. It is the number of revolution which is discussed and not the speed. There are many things which have to be assumed/simplified in order to explain a particular concept. Hope that helps.

When the angle of the gnomon is equal to the latitude, then when it points North, it points exactly to Dhruva Tara. In this position it becomes exactly parallel to the axis of rotation of the Earth. Now take a cone with semi angle equal to the latitude and place it with its tip coinciding with the bottom tip of the gnomon, and the open face (base) facing North. Now the circular rim of the base is always exactly parallel to the path of movement of the sun. Mark the angles on the rim. Since the sun moves uniformly, the angle markings are also equal in distance from each other.
