A look at variable regen braking with the Cotton Mouth from North Bay Electric Bikes. This video looks at how the regen braking system can add range and save your regular brakes. It also looks at how the dual drive train lets you ride it like a regular pedal assist bike and then ride with traffic with the same machine. Enjoy.
If people are interested in getting one of the production bikes or get more information regarding on you can contact North Bay Bikes via their website northbaybikes.com/ You can also make contact via our Discord Server (Invite link / discord

every battery management system should have a feature only to charge the cells to 4.0 volts for storage or day to day use where full capacity isn't strictly needed

You can do this with some. I usually charge my 72 volt pack up to 83 volts I also have another program to 81 volts depending on what I’m doing. I use the Grin cycle satiatior. It’s not the most powerful but it’s fully waterproofed and allows you to have many different charging programs for everything from a simple 12 volt pack up to a 72 volt one. Not the cheapest system tho. Cheers

@@HighVoltageKitsThank you , I will show it up when I will take action 👍🏻 I am curious how many battery Bms\amps are you using and what cells , because I see the discharging rate is at 80-90 amps in 3-4kw continuous … making the 60km/h very easy and going pretty healthy up to 80km/h ( and here I refer more at your bbshd which gone with 80km/h in your speed runs ) Is it 60 or 80 bms and is maxing out at 90 from the app, or is a real 90 amps ripping in that way ? 🤔 I don’t manage to get more than 60-70km/h out of my Chinese battery at 50 amp BMS pretty maxed out🫣😅😅 Thank you 👌

Those are phase amps. It’s set to 180 max. The battery has a 300 amp bms on it. At least that was what was originally specified. I’m not sure what battery amps it’s pulling. I’d have to check.

@@HighVoltageKits ohh myyyy days, what an animal of battery with 300 amp BMs 🫣🫶 I bet one of those batteries are pretty costly, but anyway…I got the answer needed 🙏 Then the max speed should be 100km/h+ on this setup and with the bbshd around 80km/h+ ( maybe because of the high motor amps and battery the motor gets pretty hot )…but I am not an expert to tell, I just guess 🫡 At me I set it to 100 amps on motor ( higher it cuts, maybe because the battery can not provide enough…), and 50 amps on battery ( app shows 60-70 amps max overkilling the battery a bit, maybe because I have not put a wattage limitation, and left to pull as much as it can ) Thank you for replying to it 🤗

@alex.copilu you are welcome. Not sure on top speed yet. I have seen it pop up to 85 briefly. I need to find the right time and place to test top speed.

One of the nicest high power ebikes I have seen. Congrats on all your work. Also, beautiful riding venue. Canada is beautiful this time of year. PS. any plans for selling these bikes either complete or by parts including battery and motor?

Bikes in various stages of build from a frame up to fully built are on offer. The only thing not being done is the battery. Although cases can be supplied. North Bay Bikes are the place to contact. Either with the link in the description or via our discord

If you had to guess... How much % of regen were you applying on the downhill. What's the max you have seen? Regen emergency stop?
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits Ай бұрын
It it putting just over 600 watts at the max at the current 70% ratio. There is another setting that governs it though. So it can go up. You can also lock a wheel lol.

I assume the same motor is doing the propulsion and the regen, hence need for additional chain? I wonder if regen will not mess batteries up by being charged and discharged constantly. My only wish would be Torque sensing, apart from that it's really nice bike!

The answer to your question is yet to be discovered and will take some time to evaluate. The TS is complicated and needs more testing. The pas sensor gives the rider an intuitive feeling and power delivery can be modified within the Eggrider and High Votlage apps. It actually feels quite nice while riding and pedaling with lower pas levels. The High Voltage tuning of the Bac2000 is great and user friendly.

I did this play many times with Bionx over years. You can do it endless if you put in your own human power to compensate motor+battery+air-resistance losses, both up and down. my estimate was getting about 50% back but only if I regen at about the same speed as assist up. As i only give only about 200W to the system, and only uphill the maximum support is onyl 200W or 100%. If i get more support, Bionx is limited to about 275%, i could not get more than 50% back. Your power monitor jumps wildly but for 50% efficiency you need to put the same human power uphill into the system as you read electrical. That seams not reasonable. Plz check,

Obviously, you're commenting from some great experience, and it's much appreciated. Thank you. Yes, it's definitely a "what you put in, is what you get out" scenario. More testing and keeping track of the data will be done over time. Keep in mind the regen was added to the design of the bike primary for alternative braking and performance has been good. The power regeneration is just a cherry on top of the ice cream! It's good ice cream!

@@kb-rl1pn Yes, regen braking is one great benefit but low drive train stress on direct motors give you 5-10k kilometers on cassette and chain. Here in EU direct you will find direct drive only on 45km/h or class 3 bikes. Your bike looks interesting, so the motor chain is a motobike chain? How long the wheel runs free with the motor off? It is a very good measure of the non-electric regen losses. If you know the rotational interia you can calculated this in W.

batterietest wasn't very well made, because the battery was still recovering from the uphill ride and u even had used power at the moment it dropped to 81,3... but still very nice concept, will follow this.

My comment of 'not sure" is directed at the "max speed". For safety reasons we have decided to test the CM in an appropriate setting in regard to the proper place, time & safety equipment. We do know that CM is comfortable in the 5k/40mph(64.4kmh) range and definitely still has more to give. (again...under the correct conditions)

Just do a rough conversion, specific numbers don't matter in cases like this. 2/3 * the speed in kph is all you need. Any adult with a reasonable grasp on arithmetic should be able to estimate 2/3's of a value. All this to say: it sounds like a skill issue on your part.

I imagined your come on in the style of Johnny Mac being frustrated at missing the baseline. ;) I live in Canada. I mean I could put an MPH on there I guess. You are the first to borderline upset over it tho lol. Or I’m reading this wrong. I’ll put it to a vote. Some Democracy.
