varg never had 80 hp, dyno'd at max 70 or even less. Bear in mind that varg is using an asynchronous motor that is less efficient than ipm. And of course weight.. Oh and one thing to think about. Varg is not open source of any kind and if You can repair or replace almost every part in surron, with varg You stuck with the warranty. There are almost no parts from other bikes that fits to varg, so keep that in mind too. So all in all initial price is just a start for the varg, but it is the end for the surron in good way.
@HighVoltageKitsКүн бұрын
I’m just going on what’s been claimed. It’s not shocking that a manufacturer exaggerates those stats though lol. They are all at it. In terms of efficiency vs ipm. Is this including field weakening. Once you start using that and you do need to for high performance on a Sur Ron the amount of battery consumption increases significantly. Good point on the aftersales and repair. I heard that the Sur Ron is taking a beating from a clone called the e-ride now. Stock 72 volts out of the box but pretty much a clone otherwise.

@@HighVoltageKits If You need higher rpm - use more voltage, why bother with FW?
@HighVoltageKits14 сағат бұрын
@aiev5545 usually with the Sur Ron it’s because the controller options are limiting it. The ASI BAC4000 and 8000 which was the first upgrade is 72 volt max. But yeah higher voltage is good. Sourcing batteries becomes more and more difficult the higher you go.

Here CYC Photon, can it be reliable? - Back from repair, my experience with the warranty process. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndx3hNhm1qqzfqc.html sadly it didn’t last long. 30kms and another issue. I need time to trouble shoot it though.
@dougl61602 күн бұрын
That was very useful. I use the Photon at 52v like a Corolla, reliable vehicle for shopping and around town. It's necessary for enthusiasts like you to push the limits to improve the motors.
@HighVoltageKits20 сағат бұрын
Yeah it should be good for that fingers crossed. Mine broke again. I will hopefully get chance to troubleshoot it soon.
@igypop.3 күн бұрын
got to just over 4800 km on photon before it broke down (9 months +), CYC were kind enough to replace the unit under warranty at no cost (kudos to customer service), did open it partially but not all the way to the first stage which requires ungluing the cover (by use of a heat gun) to reveal the first stage sprag clutch, bearing and motor shaft - believe that the some of the magnets on the motor "exploded" due to heat causing grinding and terrible noise and also almost instantaneous heating up issue to well over 99 degrees Centigrade, now on my second photon very close to 7000 km (so circa 2200 km on the new internals), time will tell whether it will meet the same fate.., X1 gen 4 looks like a good replacement for photon - also seems to be service/repair friendly which may make it a better purchase choice, and with the kind of power it can generate it may in fact last a very long time unless one is inclined to use the max settings under extreme loads/conditions..
@HighVoltageKits3 күн бұрын
Mine is still broken right now. I need to get time to really trouble shoot it. Interesting that the fail was magnet related as they make pretty bullish claims about how much heat they can handle.
@igypop.3 күн бұрын
@@HighVoltageKits in all fairness I have been "pushing the envelope" initially; however, this is not a definitive - it is my assumption - there was a sudden thud then metalic grinding noise and successive temperature rise/jump, saw a video clip of cyc motor (think photon(?)) being opened on yt (cannot find it now), it showed a magnet past "explosion" (kind of flowering like), photon essentially consists of 2 parts, 2nd stage which is relatively easy to get to, the 1st stage where as described above; requires ungluing the cover (by use of a heat gun) - did not get that far as the device was under warranty and I did not want to void that by potentially causing a further damage, in my humble opinion X1 Gen4 really looks service/repair friendly which is a huge attribute, and taking it apart to replace planetary gears and to clean and re-lubricate the gearbox and motor shaft every six to twelve months I see as a acceptable compromise.., even replacing the gearbox every say twelve months may be acceptable cost/inconvenience for the amount of power available, as with all "high-performance" items there always are associated service/maintenance costs.., and it all depends on case by case user application.. What I would like to see is the implementation of belt(s) (gates) instead of chains for both primary and secondary drives, at least for primary on X1 Gen4, but that's just me.. 😁😁

@@HighVoltageKits btw about Flipsky etc, there also is Makerbase, but afaik most of those things weren't directly designed by them Makerbase made the HP series, which are actually true phase sensing models with proper naming (i.e. not recommended to go over 84V) and are fully opensource they're also cheap as hell, picked my 84200HP's up for only €110 a piece and they use INA 241A's (which is the higher voltage version of the INA240, previously commonly used in 60V max phase sensing vescs that did not use the DRV chips, but those are proper current sensors, not the opamp garbage Flipsky and Makerbase pulled off with the 75200's it also has phase filters, they're sort of based on the 75/300 but with 100V max components, the ina241A's having 110V max common mode bandwidth that is particularly exciting as you can literally run any motor with genuine silent HFI, which works really, really good, if you have a temperature probe in the motor and tuned well it is actually far more accurate and effective than hall sensors

@HighVoltageKits the bbshd, I believe it wouldn't be a fair test if the bbshd wasn't pedalled from cold start. Surron hasn't got pedals, bbshd has. So for true speed, you have to utilise the entire power available for each bike. Since sur hasn't got pedals, it could potentially be equal.
@HighVoltageKits8 күн бұрын
@jakebaked5996 Ahh ok I understand. In this case though it’s a modified bbshd so the speed at the crank is about three times peddle speed under throttle. It’s not like with a stock motor.

I bought a Shengmilo M80 from new years ago that came with a second battery. I used a plain converter socket to allow them to connect in parallel instead of having to disconnect one before connecting the other. They are permanently connected together & charged as one battery. The result is a far more stable Voltage & power when ridden & lower amps coming from each so likely a longer lifespan. If I was to change the hub motor for something bigger then that would be a very different story, as stresses would increase. As it is, stresses have only decreased & I have every confidence that the bike & batteries will give me many more miles of reliable service. Problems are more likely the result of overstressing components.
@HighVoltageKits4 күн бұрын
Hope it lasts for you! The only risk is a bms going bad in a way you don’t expect and it leading to overcharge or discharge of the battery. If they are good enough quality it ought to catch that though.

@HighVoltageKits I would love to add this motor to something like the Arc Hero or Arc Nemesis, Even a Ristretto 512 or a Meelod DK300, and add a second battery or something similar to what the Aniioki can do in riding long distances. I'm in the US and they are building bike paths that are 50 to 100 miles all over the US so having range is important to me. Hopefully, soon we will get smaller long-range batteries with fast charging and much cheaper to produce. As for riding speed, I like the idea that I can get up to speed if needed and keep a constant speed when going up a steep hill but most of the time I go at average Ebike speeds enjoying the beautiful countryside. Excellent suspension and a comfortable seat should be number 1 for those who like long-distance travel. Way too many e-bikes are being hashed out and all are all the same nothing special lacking in good suspension a comfortable seat and maybe a slightly different look. Why is this? Why wouldn't they focus on comfort I don't know and the person runs out looking for a replacement seat or upgraded the suspension so it's not bottoming out. I'm better off buying a quality frame and getting my parts to build a good all-around bike right from the start!
