Only other tip I would add is, find an empty car park and practice low speed manoeuvres and emergency stops for an hour. I bet there'll be a lot of bikes dropped at low speed in the next few weeks. And muscle memory for progressive braking will need to be restored. Great video...

Hi Reg I'm really enjoying watching your videos as I'm a returning rider after 16 years! Last year I bought a Virago 535 1999 model. I had a few hours refresher course. And I've done some practicing and a few rides on empty roads in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. Joined lots of ladies motorbike groups, very helpful and informative. Now also own a Kawasaki Z650 2017,so different from my Virago, but such great fun and more responsive after my old cruiser. Enjoying all your advice and have passed your links to others in the groups too. Can't thank you enough, all info taken on board, at 67 I need to defiantly need to remember all the life savers and head turns. Thank you 😊

Some good tips there, and totally agree with you about the group overtakes, not that I go out with groups all linked up, but if I did I'll overtake when I can see it's clear. It might be "clear" but there are a lot of other things to consider on overtakes.

I'm returning after a 19 year gap due to being in a hit & run incident back in 2002. I still remember the acronym O.S.M.P.S.L Observation, Signal, Manoeuvre into Position, Speed, Lifesaver. I learnt this way back in 1996 on an intensive course. I still use it every day, even when driving. I'm looking forward to watching more bike tips in the future.

I would recommend riding with an instructor/riding school first.

Good tips, as always! I myself am about to go back to biking after a gap of about 7 years! In fact it's going to be my job... I was a year round daily rider and RoSPA member, but I'm under no illusion as to how much rust has built up on my skills since I traded the bike for a car! Fortunately I have a week long course with a Police instructor, I'm sure by the end of it I'll be at an even higher standard than where I left off. Then I'll look at buying myself a bike again, too...

Videos I’d like to see: 1/ a commentary ride of the road from settle to ribblehead and through to hawes, or the A57 snake pass glossop to Sheffield. 2/ a bike emergency stop video like the car one 3/ slow speed riding, slow manoeuvres, and filtering 👍👍😀

I saw a couple of appalling overtakes from motorcyclists the other afternoon. One in particular was exactly what you say here. Group of 3 riders. Riders 1 and 2 overtake which was perfectly fine. Rider 3 thinks well I ain’t getting left behind and overtakes into oncoming traffic. That oncoming traffic was me and I saw it and was dealt with.

Hi my bike is going for a carb rebuild and service next week. We haven't been out on the road for over 10 years! I'm no spring chicken we are both over 50. My bike has drums not discs. I used to ride for a living but feels like I'd be starting over, I'm well rusty ........

Reg I love your videos and I am a big fan of yours, but you really need to take the cam off your head/helmet - it affects the integrity of your helmet (its why Michael Schumacher got a head injury). Put it on your body please

No Nods, I’m afraid now you have a GS you’ve turned into a tractor driver so forget any form of recognition and by the way, don’t leave too much mud on the road

Yes, it's a bike I'm sure I would enjoy riding, but put off by the sheer numbers of them on the rd, plus do you need full metal pannier set, to just go for a bacon sarnie and cuppa.

Good advice as always 👍 Ps you become invisible to other bikers when you ride a Gs lol 😝

You know there's something in what you say. I'm sure I'd love a gs, but just can't bring myself around to buying one due to their ubiquity.

An off post comment. Was it yourself on a red beaked GS I passed yesterday? Wrynose and you were headed towards Hardknott? About 12-1300? I was on a grey RS.

I had a great day yesterday. Glorious weather if a little chilly. That chewed tarmac rising above on the west side of Hardknott is always a bit heart in mouth :)
