I wouldn’t make it a Chevelle...Black it out, square up the styling, add a Buick badge and call it the grand national

Given that if you take this exact car and swap an LT1 into it you get the Camaro, he isn't entirely wrong. Which also explains why the Mustang and Challenger keep jumping the Camaro (it's too small); but that's a rant for a different day.

If they would’ve called this a Chevelle they would’ve rioted in the streets for it not having a V8. At least with it being a Cadillac it has the great used market and what I would describe as a solid interior.

It's a same platform as current Camaro. They could put V8 in it easily. In fact ATS-V doesn't have LT1 only because Europe favors small engines and not 6.2 liter V8 and Cadillac wanted to succeed in Europe. They didn't succeed anywhere instead.

If this were called a Chevelle, it'd be criticized for not being a "real" Chevelle because it would have lacked a V8; not been as big as the older cars; and lacked retro styling reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s cars. In many ways, a new Chevelle like the one described in the video could have experienced the same cold reception as the 2004-06 Pontiac GTO.

At no point does he actually give the brand flak for building the car this way, he just says that it has the wrong badge on it to sell with the target demographic that would have been interested in it. it's not "This isnt a real cadillac", its "The people buying cadillacs will see it that way and those that like these cars won't want a cadillac." pontiacGXPfan be honest with yourself, when you think performance, you don’t think Cadillac. Cadillac’s been trying to be too much like a European performance brand rather than the luxury cars they were known for. It’s more of an identity crisis than anything. It’s not so much the age demographic that’s the issue, sedans have been decreasing in popularity for years, Ford killed off its sedan line up to make CUVs and SUVs, naturally Lincoln would have to fall in line.

the problem with chevelle is that it isn’t a muscle car name. chevelle was just the name of the mid size car for chevy. yes the ss was a muscle car but the chevelle itself wasn’t. But i think the malibu name has gotten a little tired and renaming chevy’s midsize car back to chevelle could harken back to the 60’s. I think it makes sense to have this car as a cadillac. they know it wouldn’t sell very well as a chevy because want stereotypical american is going go want a twin turbo v6 with a small trunk. most people just want something that gets them and their friends there without hassle. So put it with a brand that has lower sale volume to make it look better and at the same time put a “luxury” interior and make a bunch of profit. on each car instead of less money as a chevy

You're hitting on a point that I've discovered recently. It seems old names are subject to revisionist history. When you hear "Chevelle," you think of the powerful, big-block muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s, not the name of Chevrolet's midsize sedan line, the majority of which had inline-sixes or lower-displacement V8s. That name carries all sorts of expectations that, if a car were to use it and fall short of those expectations, people will see it as a pretender, rather than a true successor.

So funny story, I own one of these and my tuner and I were going through the ECU the other night... No matter how fast you're going, no matter what gear you're in; if you're anywhere under 4000 revs... it will NOT give you full throttle. You can mash that gas pedal all the way to the floor and it won't give a goddamn. It's got such a nanny state style electric throttle that it will wait until 4k before it even gives you over 60% throttle input. Thank god it can be tuned out lol

But look at it this way: after trying for 40 years, they finally made a small Cadillac that does not suck. Seville, Cimarron, Catera, the BLS, all failed as small entry level Cadillacs. It even has a sporty version which does not suck. Too bad it has to compete with BMW who has not been failing with their entry level car for 40 years and thus has gained brand recognition. No way Cadillac could match that out of the gate. Even the CTS took three generations across a dozen years to get good.

"I guess Cadillac did it.... but at what cost?" This single quote hit me. Cadillac, the once glorious brand of Deville, Fleetwood, and Eldorado's, has been beaten to death. Replaced by an American brand with a sense of shame amid an identity crisis. I want my American land yacht, I want my V8 engine and bench seat, and I have a fist full of money. No, I'm not 65yrs old, just an Italian-American millennial that remembers when owning a Cadillac was not only a sign that you made it but a welcome card to the middle class, it was a big deal. Something you took pride in handwashing every Sunday. Sadly it seems those days are long past. It's Lexus if Lexus had some 40 years of individuality (read, not being known as a rebadging brand) to it. At least in the US, the first car that produced an image when you said Lexus was an IS series, and those were unabashedly Toyota re-badges. Luxury Toyotas, sure, but rebadges all the same. Cadillac meanwhile has a long and storied history of being it's own thing.

As an EXTREMELY proud owner of a 2019 ATS-V..... I'm also proud to have seen this roast because you guys are hilarious... The car is amazing, I have the Wave Blue 8 speed and get ALOT of compliments... I'm really glad I got this car🤟

@@pontiacGXPfan In 2019 they only made the coupe and they all came standard with the carbon fiber package.... It's definitely a head turner with the Wave Blue Metallic I have 😍

@@pontiacGXPfan ugly? You're thinking of the CTS-V. The ATS-V coupe is rather nice looking.

One of the only Cadillac coupes I love to look at, and that chassis is the same as the 6th gen camaro, so exceptionally well handling car, engine is basically just a turbo version of the 336hp v6 in the camaro as well. Still well deserved criticism lol

You definitely see these at car meets. They are rare enough to be noticeable, but ubiquitous enough to be recognizable. "Oh there's a CTS-V!" I appreciate these cars for the simple fact that their development gave us the 6th gen Camaro.
