On this Fleet Friday, members of Arapahoe Rescue Patrol give us a tour of Rehab 12, a 1995 International / SVI. Rehab 12 is staffed by A.R.P. volunteers and responds to most major incidents in South Metro's district to provide nourishment, SCBA cylinders and scene lighting. This vehicle was originally purchased by Louviers Fire District and used as Squad 123 until 1999 when their district merged with South Metro. It later became Squad 40, Heavy Rescue 41 and a reserve special operations vehicle before being reassigned to Rehab.

For a 1995 International, that's a good looking truck. It could use some love, though. Replace the strobe light heads with LEDs, replace the rear scene lights with LEDs, and put some new domes on the light bar, for now. That would put less load on the electrical system, which results in to reduced maintenance. Later on, come back and replace the light bar with an LED bar, and replace the head on the light tower with LED. Still, I am a bit nostalgic for the old school look! Great job on the presentation, crew!

So your Rehab is what we call a Utility Truck at our Department. The Rehab at ours carries portable like tents and A/C unit as well as is like a FOOD Truck more or less. Our Utility also have water and such cold like your rehab. Our Utility can fill up to 8 bottles at a time and is self contained system. Nice Truck and great to see the younger generation get involved

When I was in high school I was a police explorer. These kids are the fire equivalent of us. Glad to see programs like this still exist. I look back fondly on my explorer days. Got to do a lot of interesting things. Police training, ride alongs, search and rescue, evidence searches, harbor patrol, traffic control, security at fairs and school events. Was a great time. Sadly programs like that are disappearing. I hope South Metro does everything they can to hold onto programs like that.

I think it's a really cool idea to combine the voluntary SAR crew with a voluntary supplemental fire fighting crew. The semi-regular calls for big fires provide the needed "live fire" training, team building and (last but not least in a voluntary crew) fun for the team, which would be much rarer if they would "just" do SAR work - while simultaneoulsy you have a big benefit for your career departement as well, because a few volunteers that are keen on doing the "dirty" work are a huge help for the men at work. This combination saves the city thousands in wages for additional staff while it also provides a better experience for the volunteers. Win-Win. Really clever.

Wow, I wish we’d had something like that in the U.K. when I was young. Well done to all the young volunteers who help on this. You should be very proud of yourselves. If you are all as knowledgeable and keen as these 3 you will all go far in life and be positive forces. Great work. How many responses do you have per year and how many volunteers are there? Would be nice to see a piece about their training and envolvement on the fire ground in the future?

That was very well done by the teens. I am sure they are very helpful as they all seem to be very knowledgeable. This is a great idea involving the public, and may encourage them to want to be firefighters themselves one day. That always seems to be a problem with any S&R teams is the availability of personnel, and this seems like an excellent way to provide more hands to assist in the load. Great video coverage too.

Doing so makes it more difficult to remove the bottles from the tray, we typically twist the straps to signify used/empty bottles. Doing so makes it easier to remove the bottles or check pressures on scene or after a call.

diesel is not loud or quiet based on DEF. it is more about which fuel system the engine has. newer engines in general are common rail fuel systems. the dt466 is a heui engine which are in general loud. cam ground pistons can also be loud until warm. such as in a powerstroke.

Great Truck! I know this may not be doable on this truck, but on the GW-A (Basicly a pure SCBA Truck that also has a compressor, lots of SCBA Bottles and SCBA in general) of our neighbouring department, there is a water basin were the bottles are put into whilst refilling, because they heat up and then they either don't get as full, or take far longer. But heating may not even be a problem with this system, as it isn't a real compressor...

Very nice example of how Volunteer programs can be morphed into professional firefighting agencies. So often, there is resistance on the part of professional (e.g. paid) personnel to Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). Well done South Metro. Did I miss the "pop up" shade structures? In San Diego, CA, shade is part of Rehab cooling as well as rain cover.
