The day you've been waiting for is FINALLY here! I'm moving my Northern glass frogs (Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni) into the large paludarium I set up back in December! I'll go over how much it's grown over the last 7-8 months, some troubleshooting and then the frog intro followed by a small feeding. I hope you enjoy the video!

Welcome back, everyone! Please make sure to do lots of research before considering keeping glass frogs as pets. In general, they are more delicate than a lot of other species kept in herpetoculture. Don't forget to answer today's question of the day! As always, special thanks to my Reptiliatus patrons for their additional support www.patreon.com/Reptiliatus ! Sorry that there haven't been many full-length videos in the last few weeks! I've been VERY BUSY building something VERY BIG for my green tree monitor lizards and several other enclosures for other animals!

they're so cute they almost look like they could only exist in an anime! love how this habitat has grown out. i've only done a few reptile and invert enclosures, but i really enjoy all the types i've tried so far. the arid has been limited to tarantula species, but its been a fun challenge to figure out ways to keep it interesting for all involved. my favorites are planted enclosures, gardening in miniature! so far of those my favorite has been for my eldest crestie, she loves checking out the different areas depending on what she wants. from burrowing under a bunch of moss to using vines as shortcuts to her preferred hides and ledges. currently plotting out a blue tongue skink enclosure set up for the coming year :3

Qotd: my favorite type of setup is a fully lush rainforest setup, such as the cloud forest vivarium mike tytula has showcased, where every inch is covered in greenery and most of the setup is nondescript plants that add to the feel. Also, I went to a reptile expo last weekend with the project mini dragon merch, and someone recognized it! Your influence is far reaching!

Thank you! Yes, we’ll have to see how it goes.
@Biolo-G_KJ
@Biolo-G_KJ 11 ай бұрын
As the person who gave the critique. It's not about the breeding alone. Bacterial issues, inmense breeding stress, higher feeding difficulty with appropriate nutrion are all factors. The best option are rainchambers or temporary floods for 2 weeks orso. But a constant water feature for months is not a good idea and none of the good glassfrog breeders use this for a reason. The frogs don't live above streams. They just breed there. That's it. I've bred many glassfrogs and I let people know this isn't a good option. I let Reptiliatus know many times. He hasn't bred them and is still doing the same nonsense that all experts do not recommend to do. At the end of the day it's his choice but smart is something else. There are basically 0 good reasons to do it and a ton on why not to do it. So I'm just constantly flabbergasted by these questionable decisions that simply ignore the opinion of experts.

I think a paludaruim is the most complete ecosystem that mimics nature. Love them and would like one with moss frogs! On the other hand I do love the bigger reptiles like my Burmese en retic and ofcourse the monitor lizards. I would really love a huge jungle enclosure for a breeding pair of Varanus macraei... But they're so expensive!

If I had the space and resources I'd love to do a jungle bioactive paludarium setup, that would house Vampire Crabs at ground level with either some lovely geckos or small frogs in the arboreal section. Springtails and Isopods in the substrate section to eat up the animal waste and any mold/dying plant matter.

Qotd: paludarium all the way. What could be better?! But I also love when there’s a little story. A nurse log, or island, or waterfall. Even slightly gimmicky, like a ship wreck, ancient ruins, or alien word. I always fantasize about doing a desert design for a sand boa with a collection of interesting stones and crystals. So it looks like a star trek alien world :) But I also love mineralogy and star trek, so that’s a personal Venn diagram of my interests :)

Oh, and for the QOTD: I think that I favor the paludarium, but in the end, the species I get is what drives what I do, and I have enclosures that range from arid to aquatic and everything in-between. I am happily stepping up my plant game, but I feel like that is much easier in the high humidity enclosures than others. ☺

to be honest my favorite type of enclosures are bioactive ones that closely mimic the natural habitat of the species, basically biotopes, I think they are best since that way you can see the animal more closely to how you would find them in nature, not only that but it lends itself to more natural behaviours, things they might not do unless they are in their natural habitat.

what are those little pouches in the terrarium during the feeding timelapse?

GOTD: I definitely like tropical rainforest terrariums better then desert ones. I would probably make it a tall one and put either black eyed tree frogs or lemur tree frogs.

I’m just starting to build my tokay a terrarium like yours it’s 60x90x45 just deciding on expanding foam background with coir and moss on it or ?
@Reptiliatus
@Reptiliatus 11 ай бұрын
Exciting! Thats totally up to you! I think that would look great! I'd do the whole thing with the coco coir and then add some moss over that. If you use the moss to cover the foam, it'll eventually come off a lot easier and reveal the foam behind it.

@Reptiliatus

They are actually little packets with sawdust or bran that release predatory mites that eat/attack plant pests (thrips)!

Thank you! No, not yet! I don't find them to be stressed but I have been thinking about removing the water side and doing a fully terrestrial build for them and building a separate rain chamber.
