I'm proud of this little gem, though I don't see myself doing this kind of project again.

I love the idea of a quality PCB that fits the standoff spacing on the fender reissue amps, deluxe reverb and Princeton at the least.

A well-thought printed board might be better. But to my eye, a turret board is more pleasing. Thanks for the eye-candy, my friend.

Nice work Lyle. Very nice. I think the drop in board pcb design would be smart, that way you can service your clients without the super hassle of rebuilding it to get it to your standard.

Very cool, Lyle! I’ve often thought of doing something similar and just making the Vibrato channel moderately high gain, say 70’s classic rock kind of a thing. I did this modification on one where the bass and treble pots are push pull so when both are out you get the standard 6k8 value and one of them out is a mids boost and the other is a mids cut. I agree if you do this again you might as well save yourself the headache and get a PCB made. It’s not like axial filter caps are getting easier to come by.

Maybe make a universal Fender board that covers a wider range of classic Fender amps, with optional turrets so it works with numerous models. That is absolutely gorgeous workmanship, as per usual for Lyle Caldwell.

So, I asked Dr Z about using star washers on his new Z80 video….. It was a simple question. He replied and it should be seen by all(5 paragraphs). I had no idea the subject was so dang touchy with him.
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 7 ай бұрын
Just saw that. In his partial defense, you worded your question pretty aggressively. Most of the criticisms I’ve had of his amps have been the Mk I reverb circuit which he addressed with the Mk II, reverb tanks in heads humming because of transformer proximity (get combos, not heads if you want a Z with reverb), and the jacks not having toothed washers. And Switchcraft makes longer bushing jacks that work with his chassis/panel thicknesses. As to pots, yeah, he’s right, not every value is available in every taper with a longer bushing, and as he doesn’t make ground through pot casings that’s just a downside that sometimes the pots will be loose. But jacks…
@matthewf1979
@matthewf1979 7 ай бұрын
@@PsionicAudio Well, I didn’t think it was aggressive. I liked the new amp too. Very interesting design to resurrect. We have his reasoning on record and an intent to finally fix the issue. Machining a chassis has to be way more expensive than a volume order. The flat back CTS pots have 100% interchangeable parts, seems like a big enough order would fix it. I’ve swap wafers to get the right bushing/shaft all the time. Surely the factory can just build what one needs.

Man, that looks and sounds fantastic! The new owner should really love it! Quick question: What gauge of wire do you like to use for the heater supply hookups in an amp like this, 18AWG or 20AWG?
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 8 ай бұрын
I used 20 for the 6V6s and 22 for the novals. I only use 18 for larger power tubes with higher heater current draws.

Really enjoy vids although non-tech. XD champ owner that learned after many years of ownership a few mods can vastly improve Fenders products. Changed the speakers and got an attenuater to run the at 7 and I dont even recognize the amp.😊 Can the 68 Custom PR be modded to sound like the original and is it worth for an occasional public player? Thanks.

Hi. I hope it’s OK that I’m asking a question about my own amp. I have a 65 deluxe reverb issue from 2003. I just had it serviced by the person who was the main tube guy in New York, but he has now left the state permanently. In the clip the there is a click. It happens about two minutes after I turn on the amp (the clip is only 3 seconds). It come from the area of the chassis that I am showing, I think. It's possible that there is a slight loss of volumeI after it clicks, but that might be my imagination. I never noticed it before I had it serviced. Maybe it’s normal maybe it’s not. I’m hoping you can tell me. During this test, both the reverb and vibrato channels are off and there is no guitar plugged into the amp. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gqhjia9yscfYnIU.htmlsi=6u0fZ2z90tEJhtKW

Mr. Caldwell i apologize that the question i would like to ask doesn't pertain to this amp but im at a bit of a dead end. I would like to add a 4 way switch where the slope resistor sits on my 2204 but the amps EQ is plate driven. Are you able to suggest a switch that will safely handle the voltage? Whether you answer or not thank you for your incredible knowledge and content 🤘
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 7 ай бұрын
You can put a largish cap ahead of the existing tile tone stack, say .1uf or .22uf with a 10M to ground on the side away from the plate. That takes DC off the tone stack and you can then switch slope resistors without harming a switch. Use paralleled resistor combinations to avoid pops.
@dalepiwek
@dalepiwek 7 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for the reply Mr. Caldwell I really wasn't expecting an answer let alone so soon. Now I realize I'm pushing it, but is the cap value you suggested for the sake of tonal transparency? I typically wouldn't ask this because it's obviously easy to just find out myself but at the moment I'm not set up to do so. Additionally, I know any answer I may get from you will be the objective truth. Thanks again, I really appreciate your kindness
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 7 ай бұрын
Those caps will pass the full frequency range of the guitar (and then some) to the tone stack. So, “transparent” as far as those things go.
