Just like there were many jokes and tropes that found their origins in the first Pacific Comics Groo the Wanderer comic book, there were also a few ideas that started here, but Sergio determined to eventually abandon them.

Videos about Groo the Wanderer from Mad Magazine Writer and Cartoonist Sergio Aragonés. Comic Book artist Mark Evanier, Stan Sakai (who makes Usagi Yojimbo comics) and Tom Luth who is the colorist of the comics. Marvel comics used to publish Groo the Wanderer under the Epic Comics brand for artist owned comics. Before that Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics published Groo the Wanderer. After Marvel Comics, Groo went to Image Comics for a year and for the longest time, Groo is published by Dark Horse Comics. Rufferto is Groo's Dog, Conan the Barbarian and Tarzan of the Apes have had crossover comics with Groo too.

Thanks! It was fun going through this issue (twice.) It's interesting to note how well much of Groo has aged... and then there are a few other things. It'd be interesting to know what Sergio and Mark think of those things, but it's probably not a question we'd hear answered on Ask Sergio and Mark. 😀

I think Macho Groo is too self-aware. Regular Groo's ignorance is part of his charm.

Thanks Jason. I didn’t notice it until a few years ago myself. It was only when I went back to read the physical Pacific floppies that I read it and said “What?! Sergio wrote that?!” 😮

Just saw this tonight...now I'm curious. My Groo The Wanderer #1 is Marvel/Epic and 75cents. Also, the cover is more of a close-up of Groo. Time to delve into this a bit more...

Interesting. Without checking anything, I’d guess my Canadian Groo #1 is $1. So the cover (except for the black ink) should be the same. Hmm.

I always wondered why Tom recoloured the Chronicles from Gordon’s original work. I appreciate that Tom was one of the Groo Crew by then, but there must have been more to it. Was printing technology advanced to allow for more colours? Did Sergio think colour consistency was important? Did this just present an opportunity for Tom to earn a few bucks?

Do they make groo omnibus, etc? I don’t see many trade paperbacks on Amazon

No, but there are TPB for a lot. You can probably find the most recent ones on Amazon, but the Pacific Comics and Epic/Marvel (even the old Dark Horse) fetch a few kopins on eBay. 🙁
