If I was feeding cattle with my hay that is the best way to put it up. I think. Great video Jake.

Great video Jake! I bought a roll baler three years ago and rebuilt it over the winter. 484 New Idea 5×4 twine tie. Really the only way to get good at making nice bales is to use it. I'll tell the truth, I made some ugly bales behind the barn! Lol. Last year I rolled 54 with it and had great results. I ended up ignoring the full bale monitor and started listening to the load on the engine. I did this under advice of my neighbor, bale shape and density really improved. I've gone more towards hay sales so it will get more use this summer. Still bale the lions share as squares, because they sell much better. Can't wait to see it in the field. Take care!

Scott Viers cool wondered how the new ideas were since they were in my price range lol. Ya I’m still going to do a fair about of squares because u do make a lot more per acre if u have a way to handle them and storage. Thanks for watching

@@jakeziegler599 Mines a soft core baler. Some love them, some hate them. I'm generally satisfied with it. Like you stated, it was in my price range. Maybe as time goes by I'll upgrade. Take care. See you next post.

Looks like you got yourselves a fairly nice looking baler. I remember redoing the clipper style belt lacings for the IH 241 & IH 2400 balers that we used to have years ago. Yep, we always cut a small angle for lead in on the belts then put the wire/pin in with a slight bend on the ends so the pin wouldn't come out. Suggestion, try to keep a couple on spare belts made up & on hand. That always helped get past those "oops moments" in the field. Good luck with it. Stay safe.

Hi Jake. Good video and all. We have run a 1465 Gehl for years and yes it's a servicable baler and can make some on the nicest bales you'd ever see. The two drawbacks of that design is that the belt going through all of those tight corners tend to beat up on lacing and you end up with belts breaking just barely off the splice. You can mitigate this problem by not pushing the limit on bale size(so don't try to get that last inch of diameter on the bale. The second issue is the 'forced infeed" roll doesn't anything useful. It tend to act more as an obstruction for the hay rather than helping it in. (Just a note: the 1465 has a ribbed lower roller and a smooth upper roller to feed the hay in, it may the 1475 has a better design in this design). The best idea is to find a way to add texture to the upper roller. The best solutions in my mind is having a chevron rubber belt wrapped around the length of the upper roller. Any texture at all is a help. Another note we have had a devid of a time with finding decent twine, that doesn't break when the bale settles. Just a heads up. I hope it serves you well, and health to you and your family in these difficult times.

Gehl had a "lagging kit" that could be put on that upper roller. I talked to our service rep about the feeding issue, he mentioned the kit, but said to take the twine, tie it around that upper roller, then fire up the baler and keep going back and forth with the twine arm until there is 3-4 layers of twine on that roller, staying a few inches away from each edge. I did that on our 1460 and it made a world of difference on the feeding. I never had a problem with it sliding off the ends into the bearings, and it lasted for it seems like a couple seasons before it started the fray bad. I cut it off and wrapped it again. I haven't done it on my 1475 even though it has the same smooth roller, but probably should. Avoid the desire to weld rods on that smooth roller. I talked to a guy that did and it constantly tore up bearings.

Greg Henry thanks for the info Greg. We are very clueless about round baling lol. Ya still a smooth roller on top. Good thought on the rubber. Chris do u know if those bars that someone welded on were hitting the bottom roller? The guy we got it from said it would plug every now and then so I was thinking of welding some on if we have trouble.
@ghenry85
@ghenry85 4 жыл бұрын
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Yeah wrapping twine around the upper roller helps that's what we have done to ours. Maybe square baler twine would work better since it's thicker. I totally see where the welded rods on the top roller would be hard on bearings, thus my chevron belt idea.
@ghenry85
@ghenry85 4 жыл бұрын
@@jakeziegler599 No problem! If you do weld rods on the upper roller I would suggest having the upper roller stop set so they can't touch. I'm not sure if you noticed that the upper roller floats(moves vertically a few inches) and has an adjustable stop. Don't see how that would be different on yours.

Thanks for the video Jake, just what I needed. I’ve been doing my part and staying home trying not to get the corona but it’s getting old fast. There’s nothing on TV but depressing news so tonight I thought i'd watch “Svengoolie”. That is until I saw tonight’s movie was “Village of the Damned”. Well watching that wasn’t going to help none so I got on you tube and saw your video!😊 Heck, if this stay at home order goes on for awhile I might have to break down and watch, Coooooooooole the corn star.🤢 LOL

I read somewhere that flexco company that makes the clipper lace developed the alligator splice for deere and then deere stabbed them in the back and used mato. I bought a new set for my 435 a couple years ago with the alligator and they look like a better splice to me than the mato. Those pins are a major PIA though if left in to long to get out. Lol

So you are going to do some organic farming.......Have you studied up on all the requirements to be certified organic? One thing that is overlooked is you need tires on all your equipment made from organic rubber. I have connections to get organic tires. Let me know if I can be of any help.
