Relaxing Watercolor Forest: Practice Makes Progress. I often paint in a series, believing that progress is made with each painting. This footage was filmed during a practice painting session for an in-person workshop in our Into the Forest Series. For September, we practiced painting forest scenes in my in-person classes and online KZfaq workshops. I am still developing my style, trying to balance details and abstract. I enjoyed the simplicity of this 4 color palette of Daniel Smith Watercolors: Raw Sienna Light, Transparent Red Oxide, French Ultramarine, and Sepia. It has an outstanding balance of warm and cool and a great range of values. Watching watercolor painting relaxes me; it is soothing, and sometimes, I like to fall asleep watching watercolor painting videos. We have one more forest-themed full tutorial coming up this Tuesday, 9/26 - so if you enjoy this loose painting style, please join me for the live premiere!

Wow! All I can say is “Wow”, so stunning, and a beautiful painting process…I was mesmerized thru the whole painting as it developed. Thank you so much for a truly relaxing (wonderful music) and enjoyable painting video, from which I am so motivated at his moment to keep painting! PS-doing a plein air painting at our local natural area by our Organ Mtns., joining our artist in residence & other painters to paint in the area & join up later in the day to share. And I am ready to paint, thank you!😊

If not I apologize but will go ahead…. I’m having trouble getting my paper to stay stuck to the board-especially after wetting for a pour. I’ve used washi tape, artists tape and masking tape none want to stay attached. The boards I’ve used are canvas boards and wood panel boards. I have gator board but it’s very thick and I use it to stretch paper. Any thoughts? How did you make the brush you used for foliage? What did you use to keep the lower part of the bristles together and the ends soft enough to paint with? I’ve cut them for uneven foliage and I’ve made one separating the bristles with masking fluid. Thoughts? Finally please ask Daniel Smith to make bigger tubes of raw sienna light …lol. So if they make you your own box of tube colors, RSL needs to be double in size (like they give you white in acrylics or oils. Lol. Again that truly was a beautiful painting with fabulous background music 💕

Hi Pam, I use pro tape artists tape or scotch tape and recommend using either a plastic, metal, or shiny foam board to tape to. The canvas/wood options often absorb water and might explain why the tape will not adhere. Your gator board may be the best choice of those you mentioned
