No, there are green models that work in any climate. The Earthship itself isn't that effective outside the desert because it is an optimised design for a dry arid environment. Evap cooling doesn't work well in a humid environment. That is why green eco-homes built outside the earthship model tend to be much smaller. One reason the ES is so large is that it uses that roof coverage to collect water which is the limiting factor in that climate. Not heating or cooling - which scale pretty well. In environments with much more water you can't cool nearly so well. So interior volume to heatsink ratio changes to smaller more concentrated spaces. (most "tiny" homes ignore the concept entirely and just add more solar panels for mini-splits) That massive greenhouse on the front only works due to that same overcooling -- in other climates the "sun features" are significantly reduced.

But I'd add something to this house if it was mine, I'd add a passive roof harvesting water collection System IF they don't already have it AND I'd add a solar panel roof out there ontop of the roof water harvesting system so the roof collects water that falls on the solar panels and the panels create electricity while a Freight Shipping Container is posted somewhere out back and under ground to be the power room where the racks of batteries are kept and the charge controller and transformer are kept. I'd also add a Rain water harvesting chicken coop outside with electrical fence around chicken area to protect against invaders and a electrical fence around the whole property so the chicken's can free range but are not allowed near the drive way only the grassy areas and dirt areas. I'd add a optional Solar Chimney for if people want it built in colder climates so the house is more versatile AND Lastly I'd add a Solar Water Heater too and a Solar powered Shed out back to work on my car lol. All electrical components are connected underground to Freight shipping container power room which recieves it's electricity from the roofs of the home and shed's solar panels. Small wind mill electrical generators connected to chimney and hoisted on tallest part outside of chimeny and free moving so sky wind moving in any direction can have strongest effect in generating more electricity to contribute to power room in the shipping container that has all those batteries on racks.

you should check out a guy from north dakota on this ladies Kristen's channel, he built his house 40 years ago and its geo thermal, thats even better, he build a greenhouse to grow tropical fruits inside, and built it so it slopped down to the earth on one side. He used the same plan for his house so he wouldnt have to pay for heat.

cob houses are great in humid areas and are somewhat similar to earthships in materials but with different design mechanics behind them. so you can look into those for an adaptation of an earthship in a humid area. they are also more of an ancient form of architecture dating back thousands of years.

Jerry C not according to their website. $225/sf - $250/sf puts a 2,000 sf house at over half a million dollars just on construction and plans. Not sure where you're from, but that is definitely not cheaper than standard construction in most parts of the U.S.

Well Tim I'm from NSW Australia and that sort of money won't even get you a house in the city of Sydney. In country areas for a nice home you are looking at over 1/4 million dollars now. Prices are astronomical on the east coast of Australia. Michelle

They save a lot on labor because generally, volunteers from around the world help to build. Also, a portion of the home is made of recycled, free, reclaimed material. With all of that taken into consideration, it's much less than a million.
