Where to start, where to start.. I've had this ghost town and the cabins that I've visited on my radar ever since I first heard of their existence approximately 5 years ago. Alot of research, planning, route finding, personal trip accounts, and packing made this trip possible. And the company of my buddy Johnny who if he wasn't along with me I honestly don't think I would have made it this time around. Now on to the trip: started out by driving in and started a little late hiking up the wash around 11 in the morning. Our goal for the day was to get to the first cabin by nighttime but that didn't happen. We made it to the 11,000 foot peak the next day and the cabin as well as some other ruins along the way. Ran out of water before getting to the cabin so that hindered our efforts a bit, but found a very old well with many original artifacts in place. These first two days were just the beginning, so stay tuned for Part 2! Hope you guys enjoy this series.

Someone did a good keeping the old cabin looking nice, putting all the old artifacts on the shelves, and by putting a new roof on it saving it from total destruction.

Looking forward to part 2! My brother and I and two guys from where I worked hiked in there back in the 70s. I don't remember what year, but we hiked in over Thanksgiving weekend and it was really cold. We came the opposite way you did. I had a 1968 Land Cruiser and my friend from work had 1972 Bronco and we 4 wheeled up to around 10,000 feet and spent the first night at the Burgess mine. Started the hike early the next morning. If I remember correctly we hiked, climbed, and explored for three full days before getting back to the vehicles. It was grueling, but everyone later said it was the best adventure they'd ever been on. I always enjoy your videos, but these will be extra special and bring back lots of great memories. @@cdd4248 No. Unfortunately not. It was a great off-roader, built like a tank. I logged a lot of exciting miles in that thing. In the roughly forty years since I took it on the backpacking trip I've owned at least fifteen different 4X4s. Various Jeeps, Scouts, Broncos, Blazers, pickup trucks..., you name it.All of them good. These days my ride is a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off Road Premium. It's a great vehicle and I love it.

Your "ground-packer" is a McCleod - a tool used in fire-fighting you can chop with the blade side, hoe with the tined side (like a rake). Also used for clearing brush & trail-building.

Cool cabin. Those tin rectangle shape containers back at the water, looked like side tanks for mule skinners. One on either side of the mule. Most likely for water. Great explore. Looking forward to the next.

Nice work. That was the richest mining district in Inyo County, and also the hardest to get to. I'd bet there is some rich ore discarded in the dumps, since every thing was visual. A detector would be nice. Safe travels

In the volunteer cabin, that "S" shaped handle was the handle to a coffee grinder. And what you called a bed frame looks more like a Shaker Table used to sift through mineral bearing ore. Back at the water well, those large rectangular cans with hooks on them were actually a way to bring down water to the camps. The hooked one can on each side of a mule or donkey on the pack saddle frame. But I bet not many hike up to that cabin much. Did the cabin have a log book? It looked like the roofing on the cabin was fairly brand new. Looked like a difficult hike. Would it have been easier going up from the other side of the ridge, instead of the side where you parked your vehicle?

is Jonny the same chap that has climbed mines with Brent at Cerro Gordo - he gets about a bit a well deserved dip while walking is bright sunshine - must be pretty special to come across running water on the surface amazing countryside, the mountains look hard going, steep and traitorous under foot with all the broken surface, a recipe for twisted and broken ankles thats a hell of a hike you both took - you have to wonder at some of the artefacts, that water pump, someone had to hump that heavy item up that mountain always impressed by your videos and your knowledge, interest in mining

good job my brother ...thats what its all about ...getting out there while you can and enjoying it all ... that is some really cool finds my brother ...that was a block and tackle ....the square cans were filled with water and put on the back of pack mules ...imagine packing all that stuff up there .... thats an old Dutch oven lid ....thats a good looking Cabin ...someone has been taking care of that one ... that must have been some work getting that Cabin built up there .....you could move right in there and start mining ... that handle was the top of a coffee grinder ...question ios why is that cabin there ....should be a mine close by ....will be waiting for part 2 and we smashed that like button real hard like

At one point there must have been a decent road up there in order for them to pack all that stuff up there. I know a lot of it they hauled up with mules or donkeys. But there must have been a road cut to get the ore out and down the mountain.. this video was amazing. The old timers were tough sons of bucks

Possible, but more than likely, as you say, mules and/or donkeys... As far as the ore goes, notice there was an arrastra to grind the ore. Primitive, but they work.

I’m starting my last year of life. I’ve spent decades chasing down North Cascades mines and even lowland mines. I even moved into an area known for coal and lumber camps from the 19th century. I want to see this mine. I’ve a little bit left in me. Where is it? I don’t spend much time going through all the videos to find locals. As you would likely agree time is not something I have to spare

Outstanding videos 1 & 2! 70 years old married 50 years raised 2 boys in the Nevada desert hunting, fishing and ghost town exploring. Now living by the ocean in Oregon. Loved your respect for everything around you, I could feel the wind and smell the sage. The 5-stamp mill was crazy packing the gear up there and setting it up. Thank you.

I wonder how much Gold is in that. Dry creek wash??? Thanks for taking us on that trek out to that old miners Cabin I'm almost 70 so My doubts I could make it out there on my own, I Loved seeing all the old artifacts, I wonder what they ate while they were way out there, it doesn't look like ANY edible vegetation, I'm imagine flap Jack's, or biscuits n gravy. Maybe some mountain goat or venison, occasionally rattle snake, you would have to pack a lot of flour and lard, that grinder looked like a coffee grinder😊

Hey brother awesome work making it up there. This is a very special spot. If it all possible, please refrain from disclosing the lat long. Obviously it’s a multi-day endeavor on horrible terrain to safely get in and out. Just want to be able to bring my kids to this place and have it still be standing and not ruined or vandalized.

I doubt that anyone willing to make the "damned near impossible" trek up there will not be the type to destroy or mis-use it in any way . When you say "kids" , I hope you mean adult children . This is no place for children .

This kind of reminds me of hiking Mt. Whitney on the eastern side. I started solo but met up with a small 3 person group. Those views of the elevations were the best.

That cast iron lid stamped John Savery Son's New York is the lid to a large 3 legged cast iron pot. It would have been either set into the fire, hung over an open fire or fireplace to cook in. ~APRIL LIPKE
