One difference I noticed as a Christian is that we believe the trinity is one, rather than three separate beings.

Savannah Harker Hi Savannah :) with all respect, yes you believe in Jesus, but it’s not the Jesus of the Bible. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus and God are not separate beings. Jesus is God in the flesh. Also, the teaching that Jesus and Lucifer are spirit brothers is false.

Savannah Harker, right a follower of Christ is a Christian but to follow Christ you actually have to do what he says and believe what he said to be true. He said “I and the Father are one.” John 10:30

I go for “walks with Jesus”. I go for a walk by myself & I think about what I would say to Jesus if He was walking beside me. What would I ask Him? What’s on my heart. Then I pray while I walk, listen to worship or a sermon or sometimes I’m just present. I just rest in His presence knowing I’m loved. ☺️

I’m not Mormon, but I follow Jesus and his teachings as well. I do want to say that I hold the highest respect for my Mormon friends and neighbors. I love the strong commitment to family and strong adherence to convictions that many Mormons have. My husband and I joke that if we didn’t have a strong confidence in our faith, Mormonism is the most attractive to us just because of the way it’s represented through it’s people. Thanks for opening up and discussing something as important and personal as your faith!

How awesome for you guys to do this and explain what we believe to a huge community that follows you that know nothing about the church! That’s so powerful. You both have great conversion stories and love that you said it was a personal choice to keep going and not just because you grew up in it. I don’t know if you planned it, but for this to be the video to come out this week after your brother passed away, man, what a testimony. I hope you continue to be comforted in your grief. How grateful I am for temples and eternal families and that knowledge when tragedies come!

Similar to Connor, I’m 14 right now and I’ve so far been raised unreligious although two of my grandparents are RC. I pray every night before bed and recently I’ve been praying to ask God what I believe in. I read scriptures (the Bible ESV) every day but I still don’t know what denomination or other form of Christianity best explains my beliefs 🥰🥰 recently I’ve been praying for your fam especially for strength for you to get through this tough time regarding the loss of your brother (Brit) I hope you are feeling more at peace after his life celebration. I also prayed that God looks after him while you are still on Earth and that he keeps sending you little reminders that he is still watching and loving you guys 🙏🙏

Thanks so much for sharing this! I am a member of the church, I grew up in an lds household and have always been so grateful to be raised in the church and to have had the firm foundation that the gospel provides. I am grateful to have the knowledge of life after death, and knowing in sealed to my family for eternity. My grandpa committed suicide when I was 16, and I have always found such comfort in knowing that this life is not the end. As I’ve gotten older, moved out and gotten married, I have not been consistent with my attendance, scripture study, or daily prayers. My husband and I both are firm believers in the gospel, but have not made it out #1 priority. While listening to your thoughtful answer, i realized how much I miss that consistency and the blessings that come along with keeping the commandments. I felt the spirit so strong while listening to your video, which only confirmed my love for the gospel and my appreciation for being raised in such a wonderful church. So thank you so much for sharing, you helped me feel the spirit, and I am so thankful for that!💕 i can’t wait for temples open up again, so I can get sealed to my husband, and know that I will be with him, along with the rest of my family for all time and eternity! Thanks again for sharing!💛

I used to be mormon, I am curious about your feelings on certain mormon topics. How do you feel about the LGBTQ community, do you believe that they should not be able to get married? I also had a question regarding Joseph Smith. Did you all know that he was a polygamist and married 14 year old girls? Also, feminism, what are your views on that since the church is a flat out patriarchy. I just know what it is to be mormon and the people I know who are lean one way or the other about issues like this, curious about y'alls views on such issues.

We don’t support it, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the people! Everyone on earth are children of God and all deserve to be loved and to be treated right. So as for me, I will love you and treat you right, I just don’t support it!

@@nicholewalker9104 Glad to know you don't believe in equality for all. Regardless of sexual orientation, anyone and everyone is entitled to love and have a life with the person they love. The mormon faith thinks that is reserved for only heterosexual couples. This is just flat out a lack of equality. To be denied the same privileges as a straight couple because of who you choose to love is just wrong.... You can say you love them and the community, but until you see an issue with the treatment and inequality for the LGBTQ community in this faith, there are some serious issues. It all boils down to equality, the mormon church lacks this in regards to LGBTQ individuals, as well as women in general. When I declined a calling at age 16 I was told by a priesthood holding male to, "Go home, pray about it and give me a different answer." This is disgusting after I had said no. The patriarchy, as well as the attempts to hide sexual abuse and protect pedophiles and molesters from the mormon church is repulsive If you don't know about this, like many members don't, I suggest you look into it.

Amt_11 hi, I’m a member of the LDS church and I’m hoping my answer can help you in some way. You obviously do not have to agree with me, and please feel free to question me or respond further, but I feel strongly about all of these topics like you. I don’t think what the other commenter said was extremely accurate, although she wasn’t meaning to hurt, but she said things along the lines of “we don’t support it but we still love”. It’s hard when members of a church try to speak for everyone, because I know I feel differently still as a member. On the topic of the LGBTQ+ community, I hope one day there will be a change in revelation for their families and sealings and rights in this church. We, like any other organization, have been growing and the leaders constantly change according to need, but change is not bad. It doesn’t mean it’s not true. I am fighting for the rights for the gay, trans, any sexual and gender community to be able to feel comfortable in our church. I don’t think it’s right how they’re treated. We NEED equality. I’m with you on that. I just hope you can understand that I feel as though I can stay a member of the LDS faith while also believing that. Also yes, there are corrupt things that have and are happening within the lines of sexual abuse and things. It’s awful that all organizations have horrible people within them. No “buts” about it. We need to fix that, as well, and going forward i feel as though a group of evil people and choices does not infringe on the doctorine and personal love I’ve felt through God in my faith and religion. So yes, we need to ask the hard questions. We need to argue the priesthood leader that says “pray and come back with a different answer”. Frankly that’s all bullshit , and things need to change. But for me, I don’t think that represents the faith Mormonism (for lack of a better term) teaches. The people are not God, and hopefully we can get those groups to change or get out and practice our faith in an equal and safe manner

Actually, the church has changed its stance on LGBTQ. We do believe in equality for all. While it doesn't promote Gay, lesbian, or Transexual marriage and so forth because it believes in traditional marriage it does believe that everyone should be treated fairly. Your question is kind of like a trick question because It's like there I got you! No, While the church does not believe in same-sex marriage it does believe everyone should be treated with love and kindness, so if that is your choice or someone else's choice the church respects that. I am LDS and my husband's college married a person of the same sex. My friend's husband who was the bishop marched in the Gay Parade. Our organist was homosexual and everyone loved him. We celebrated with him, bought him a gift, and wish him well. Yes, Joseph did marry a 14-year-old girl and yes he was a polygamist. First, you can't judge people of the past by today's standards. It was very common in the time period for girls as young as 14 to get married. My great grandmother was 14 when she married. Her mother had died in the pandemic of 1918 and her father could not care for her anymore. I don't know if it was her choice exactly to get married so young but she did. Lots of girls did back then. Polygamy is separate but there are many cultures today where polygamy is still practiced that are not LDS. Marriage back then was more about survival than romance. You can look this up historically. Women didn't have the right to own property, have a bank account, vote, and so forth. So being married was a way a woman could have right via there husbands back at that time. No, you can judge and say that is wrong, but if it is OK for a person to love some of the same sex than why is it wrong for a man who takes care of his wives to be wrong. I am not promoting that but today we have men who go out and have affairs and who sleep around make babies and so forth and don't' take care of them. If both parties agree, then what is the problem. Let me tell you while yes men in the church might hold the priesthood behind every man is a strong woman and I would say we have just as much say in the church, in our marriages, and our families as any man. I have never been treated as less than and in fact, I believe women in the church are put on a petal stool as the church is always telling the men to be kind to us and treat us properly. Proportionally more women are working outside the home and are seeking higher education. Did you know LDS were the first woman in the united states to vote? I am sure there are a few bad apples in the bunch, but I am sure that is the case too in any group. You can't say all Mormons are this or all gays are this!

I was raised catholic in Italy and that’s all I knew growing up. Then I moved to the US and learnt a lot about other denominations and religions in general. I think religions are so fascinating and it’s so interesting to learn what others believe in. I have read that the LDS church is conservative when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights (so is the Catholic Church) and I have personally found that while the Vatican itself is more strict with sexuality, most believers are open minded. I was wondering what your experience is as an LDS on that subject!

I know this question is not for me, but your comment was really nice and I thought I could add some. So I’m LDS and my brother and aunt aren’t anymore. My family is still active in the church but that doesn’t change how much we love my brother. Sometimes we will invite him to church again, and he might get annoyed hahah, but it’s just because we miss him there. Nevertheless, I love my brother like no other and everyone has different opinions. I think we respect them and love them anyway, even tho we might want to have them back with us.

No pressure to go to church at all. He has the choice to do as he wants because that is one of the core teachings in the church is free agency. We all have the choice to choose between good and bad.

I’m always confused when Mormon’s say they are Christians because the beliefs are so different. Christians believe In the whole Bible is the true word of God and that you can’t pick or choose pieces but must follow all of it. Also, Christianity isn’t based off of feeling. We are taught not to base things off of feelings. And that church isn’t supposed to make you feel good but it’s supposed to convict you and help you grow.

We believe in the Bible as the word of God and don't pick and choose. We don't believe it is a feeling. We believe in Jesus Christ the son of God. We believe he died for you and for me that through his atonement we can return to our Heavenly Father that he washes away all our sins. Nothing we can do will ever make up for his atonement. It is ultimate; however, we do believe that we should choose to live our lives worthy of his atonement. To be a true follower of Christ means your actions are in alignment with his work.

@@kelleynrothaermel2311 This is great and all, really it is, but what about in the bible where it says you cannot add or subtract anything from it? @@gracewicks3290 Obviously you have no idea of the history of the bible. Are you aware that there are many more chapters to the bible sitting in the Vatican. In history, all the Catholic authorities came together for a conference. In that meeting, they looked at all the books that were written and decided which chapters would go into the book. So the bible is not complete. It is just the narrative that they wanted us to read. Yes, the Nephites are not written in the bible because they left Jerusalem at least 700 years before Christ was born. There is also a part in the bible after Jesus' resurrection where he comes back and before he ascends back to God he says he has to visit his other children. Who were his other children. Do you not think that Jesus would not visit all his children on this earth or were somehow only the Jews/Christians only worthy of his message. Another fact is that when Christopher Columbus came to the Americans they-the Native Americans thought he was Jesus/God. Why would they think Christopher Columbus was God or Jesus if in their history they had never met him. Also, there are many other things in the Book of Mormon that there is no way Joseph Smith wrote about that there is no way he could have known about because they had not been yet discovered or he had no access to that type of information. He didn't have the internet. He didn't have a library. He was just a 14-year-old boy with a 3rd-grade education. If you would like a copy. I would be happy to send you one. The book of Mormon is an account of Jesus' love for his children. It isn't about Joseph Smith. It is about God and his love! You should read it! It changed my life. We also believe in the Bible and are lucky that the Book of Mormon does not contradict the testimonies given in the bible.

@@kelleynrothaermel2311 I appreciate your comment, but there are some things that I will never agree with when it comes to Mormonism, such as claiming that Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers. Or that the authority of Jesus and the apostles simply disappeared when he left, when in fact, Christians were filled with the Holy Spirit which gives them the authority to do and say the things Jesus did, i.e. cast out demons, perform miracles, and heal people. I do have an understanding of the history of the Bible. My question is, why has no historical evidence been released about these "Nephites" and why would the Bible not be updated if it was so important to include regarding the history of Mormonism? Mormonism is such a small community compared to Christianity as a whole and other denominations so I'm just so confused why it would be such a minority when you're claiming everything you are. What you're saying is great, but if it is so great, why is it not accepted by the Christian society as a whole? Hopefully that makes sense :)

Danny Delk have you thought about the context of Isaiah 43? God was reprimanding the Israelites because they were worshipping graven images and statues made with man’s hands. On repeated occasions the Lord declared in these chapters that none of these images or statues, whether formed in the past or in the future, would ever be a god. With the context in mind, it is clear by stating “before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me” he was talking about the incapacity of graven images to become gods, and nothing to do with man’s capacity to become a god.

How were the apostles selected (how/who gave them authority)? Do you “worship” Smith too? If the Book of Mormon was written by who you believe to be the prophet, how can you credit it to God? I am a Christian so I believe in Jesus but I am also curious why you believe God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are three different beings working towards the same purpose, do you pray to each separately? I have been taught that they are three in one. So for us to understand as humans, we see them as a trinity but once we meet Jesus we will have a new understanding of how they are one being. Awesome question. Joseph Smith was a con man. He claimed he would use what was called the "urim and thummim" to translate the Book of Mormon. He said only he could use these seer stones. He also claimed that he had "spectacles" that helped him interpret what God wanted translated. He was arrested because he was a criminal. He is talked about as a martyr, which is actually quite silly considering he was a law breaker, he scammed people, and he promoted polygamy which was illegal...the rest of the nation knew polygamy was disgusting and wrong, but Joseph LOVED having all those women. He was eventually killed by a mob, not because of his godly work, but because he was a fraud, a con man, and broke many laws and citizens were done with him. I was mormon and have done much research on this topic. Hope this helps, I believe he was never, and has never been a man called of God, seeing all he really did and who he really was.

This comment is NOT meant to start a religious debate. This is to simply point out objective differences between Christian beliefs and Mormon beliefs. #coexist Christians do not believe the father, son & Holy Spirit are “3 separate beings” we believe they are 3 in one. Yes they have 3 different jobs (god king of heaven, Jesus fully human sent as sacrifice for our sin, holy spirit dwells inside believers) different jobs but...they are still one! Hillsong worship has a song called “this I believe” (the creed) that puts this idea into a simple/cool perspective. As Christians we do not “subscribe/follow” teachings from a supplemental book just the holy bible (but you can choose your version, examples kjv esv niv etc.) In Christianity we don’t “elect/follow” teachings from present day prophets. We just do what the Bible says from teachers in the Bible. And yes a pastor delivers the message on a Sunday morning but we don’t elevate them to prophet status. Not here to debate just point out differences between Christianity and Mormons because Hindus also believe in Jesus for example but it doesn’t make them Christian. I can feel the spirit so strongly, and uplift me so much. During sacrament meeting we believe the spirit can be felt best when we are quiet and reverent, so much of our music is more calm and relaxing, and we don’t clap or anything at the end of music, just because we believe it helps to keep the spirit in our meeting. Many of the songs in our hymn book, however, are also in other Christian churches hymns. Outside of sacrament meeting, I think it’s personal for everyone, but for me, I like to listen to other Christian church’s music, because much of the music goes right along with what we believe in. In the 1800’s the prophet Joseph Smith received revelation about a sort of heath code that we call the word of wisdom. " I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book"

Because we believe in additional scripture, your question is a very appropriate one. Before discussing it, though, let’s get verses 18 and 19 out in front of us. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” [Rev. 22:18-19] Let us first consider what John meant by “this book” and then consider what he meant by not adding to or taking from it. When John wrote the Book of Revelation in the latter part of the first century A.D., he was not writing the concluding pages of the New Testament, as there was no New Testament in existence at that time. He was an exile on the isle of Patmos and was writing a scroll addressed to seven branches of the Church on the western side of what we today call Turkey. His manuscript was entirely independent of the rest of the 27 separate manuscripts that later came to form the anthology that we know of as the New Testament. Nor was his manuscript necessarily the last one written. It is the consensus of those who have written on the subject that several of these 27 scrolls were written after the Book of Revelation was written. Not until the fourth century A.D. did the emerging collection of sacred writings become the New Testament essentially as we know it today. In the light of these facts, we may see that when John spoke of “this book,” he wasn’t referring to a not-yet-formed New Testament but simply to his own scroll, the Book of Revelation itself. What, then, does John mean when he commands anyone who reads his work not to add words to it or to take words from it? He means that no one should tamper with the text of his scroll in any way. He wants no copyist, no would-be deceiver, no well-intentioned but misguided believer, no one to make any changes in the way it reads. He wants it to remain precisely as he has inscribed it under the inspiration of the Lord. It is interesting that the author of Deuteronomy, the fourth book of the Old Testament, similarly warns his readers, “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it.” (Deut. 4:2; compare Deut. 12:32.) In both cases the writers are commanding future viewers of their sacred manuscripts not to alter anything that has been written. Fortunately, no one seems to be arguing, on the basis of the injunction in Deuteronomy, that there never was to be any more scripture, for then some people might conclude that the rest of the Bible must be rejected. Not only is John not saying that there never would be additional scripture, but the inevitable conclusion that one must draw from the Book of Revelation, when taken as a whole, is that John recognized that there undoubtedly would be additional scripture in the last days. How so? What is scripture (Latin: scriptura, “a writing”) but divine revelation in written form? A good portion of the Book of Revelation is a prophecy of heavenly messengers coming to earth at a time beyond John’s day. When such messengers come and a written record is made of the visit and their message, automatically new scripture is formed. In the 11th chapter of the Book of Revelation John predicts the mission of two prophets who will prophesy in Jerusalem at the time of the end. When they prophesy and their divinely revealed message from God is preserved in a written record, again new scripture will be formed. Rising above all other events in prophetic significance in the Book of Revelation is the predicted second coming of Jesus Christ. When Christ comes and men of God make a written record of his coming, once more new scripture will be formed. Rather than the Book of Revelation teaching us that there was never to be more scripture given to the human family, the little volume, viewed from beginning to end, becomes splendid evidence that there would be and must be additional scripture in the last days. -> www.churchofjesuschrist.org

Thank you so much for sharing, I applaud your courage and vulnerability. I have a few questions, that maybe the community here can answer as well. Why can't you drink tea? I mean, that's not bad for your health, right? And how do you confirm your religion to modern science? If you say God created you, what about the big bang theory and the origin of species? How does your church treat LGBTQ persons? How does your church treat members who marry late and have only 1/2 or no children? What about gender equality? I think it's interesting that you say you wanna learn from other faiths but what about atheists?

It’s interesting to hear , the idea of Joseph smith and the polygamy and all the proven contradictions after the Rosetta Stone and the ability to truly translate the scrolls for the basis of the Book of Mormon has me scratching my head as it’s quite bizarre to me and there is no word anywhere in the bible about this happening in the future or any mentions of people becoming gods themselves …. So for those and way too many others .. to mention I would struggle with being Mormon. What I love about your religion is the community care the support you give others and the life style and lack of drugs and alcohol .. you seem to be such lovely people and have wonderful families too and really pull together and support each other . So despite some very serious differences between us , I can still appreciate and respect your belief, as you do mine as a Christian xx

Hey, you guys are so lovely. Found you two days ago. Both you and your husband's spirit is so beautiful. Since you did share your faith? I hope we're also untitled to comment and ask kindly? In the bible, the book of Revelations, Jesus Christ Himself says that if anyone comes and add to the book or prophecies, it will not be well with them. He also says that the bible is enough. So isn't the book of Mormon an adding of prophecy?

first of all, I am so sorry for your loss ❤️ question: why do more boys than girls go on missions? And do you support the lgbtq+ community
@rachelbarker235
@rachelbarker235 4 жыл бұрын
it is considered boys “duty” to go on a mission, women it’s more of their decision. men aren’t forced to go, but most do because it is something they want to do feeling a duty to do so. women also can go if they choose, to spread the goodness of the gospel with the world :). we do believe marriage is to be reserved between a man and a woman, but we shouldn’t chastise others for their decisions (many are not perfect with this, but they will learn eventually to love all). those who experience same sex attraction are not turned away from the church. we don’t know why people experience same sex attraction while we believe we should only marry the opposite gender, but we choose to trust God that for some it is a complex part of the human experience.

LDS beliefs stands, or falls, on the premise that Joseph Smith was, or was not, a prophet sent from God to restore the gospel. Christian faith stands or falls on the saving power of Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection as written in God's Word the Bible. God's word does not fail, it is eternal the same yesterday, today and forever!.

A lot of people definitely think our church is homophobic, but it’s the opposite actually! We love and support everyone who comes to our church. We believe that marriage is between a man and a woman personally, but we don’t judge or block out anyone who believes otherwise!! there’s actually a few lesbians in my ward and I love them so much!!

I understand why you would choose not to drink alcohol, but why not coffee or tea? Not even herbal tea? I just wonder because they can both be very good for you so they aren't harmful in the way alcohol is. If you want to avoid caffeine, is herbal tea ok? It doesn't contain caffeine

There isn't! Some Christian religions would like everyone to believe we aren't Christians because if we aren't Christians than they can continue to promote hate and discrimination against us. To be a Christian is simple to believe in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. The difference comes in doctrine. All religions have different doctrines. We do not believe that the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost are one person. We believe they are three different people with one purpose. They all work together to bring to pass the eternal life of man. We don't believe in praying to saints for example. We believe we can pray directly to God.

@@kelleynrothaermel2311 Mormonism and Christianity are separate religions. Just as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three different religions. They all follow the same God, but they are not the same. Christians do not believe in prophets - period. I’m not trying to discourage any faith, everyone has a right to believe whatever is true to them. I will say though, it’s super weird how the LDS church has moved away from the word Mormon and is focusing on the word Christian.. you don’t see Christians claiming to be Jews or Muslims claiming to be Christians, ya know?
