A 112 yr old .22 rifle my Grandfather gave my Dad has a bore with little to no rifling. In this 2 part series, we reline the barrel since we want to keep the original barrel. It not as hard to do as you'd think.
Items purchased from Brownells, 770-100-022WB liner, 361-504-000WB Liner Drill bit, 081-014-007WB acra glass, 184-050-010WB chamber reamer, 575-100-004WB express brown.

Wow, what a coincidence. My grandpa said he left it propped on a tree to go #2. I'll be by this evening to pick it up. Thanks!

Are you going to pay him for lining the barrel for you?

you can stone the drill bit cutting edge lightly to reduce grabbing by reducing the angle . helps on certain metals like brass that grab and pull .

I highly doubt you could shoot out the barrel to a 22 pump action but believe the corrosion was caused by improper cleaning after shooting with corrosive priming compounds, just my guess.

ginsboy! How I've missed you. Looks like KZfaq un-subed me. You taught me how to build an AK my good man. Thanks and God bless.

Blue auto body painters tape is cheap and the 2" wide variety would cover the entire barrel while peeling off easily. Electrical taping the whole barrel is cheap too and the goo washes off with solvent easily. I use both to mask all sorts of parts for coating and painting.

rare to see a .22 rimfire "shot out", it is a corrosion problem, early ammo used priming compound that caused metal to corrode very fast, age and neglect does the rest. It would help to use a true heavy duty 1/2 inch drill which runs much slower, is larger in size and has very high torque. A set up where a constant flow of recirculating oil is helpful. A lathe is the best option, the feed rate can be closely regulated.

I have a barrel and part of the receiver for this exact gun. Found it in the basement of an old house. Wish I had the rest of it

You really need a lathe but for what you had to work with you did alright. Only thing I could suggest is slow your drill speed down and use steady pressure. Those old barrels have hard spots that under high speed will burn up the cutting edge of your drill. Saw one at auction just like yours go for 450.00 but it was about 85 to 90 percent.

I have a model 12 Remington octagon barrel it's my first rifle that my great uncle gave me at the age of 10 wasn't really able to shoot it as the corrosive ammo that that he shot in it did it's toll to the rifling now at 70 years old I want to get it shooting again and leave to my grandson so I was wondering if you still have the drill bit and reamer and would you consider selling them please let me know before Christmas as I'd love to give it to him then if not I'll order everything from Brownells but would like to save some money on the cost the rifle is in excellent condition other than the barrel! I enjoyed watching you videos both 1 and 2 thank you!

I would love one of the liners but prob not get through Australian customs, not even a sling shot will not get through. for a BB gun you need a full fire arms license,

Try Brownells Australia, that sell them with appropriate licences.

If you looking for ideas and I hope you are here's one an AK-47 converted into a style like design york me a matter of getting around the trigger mechanism then you'll be able to lengthen the barrel maybe even converted into a smaller round like a 223 giving her very well balanced weapon with all the reliability in long range capability.

What happens if you shoot the gun so much that the liner wears out? Can you replace liners?

Being of *Curio & Relic* status, I presume I'm not out of line asking what you'd charge to reline my Grandfather's 1912 Remington, which looks a lot like that Savage as it is also an octagonal barrel pump .22 rifle. Also, what is the life expectancy of a liner vs an original hammered barrel?

one i would have lapped out the barrel before installing the liner and dont ask why but if you want it to be accurate pay a machine shop to drill ut out also i doubt that the gun was shot out i have a couple 22s that go back to 1938 and they have shot thousands of rounds and they are still like new also you dont have patina on that gun you have rust do it right boil it in hot water for 30 or 40 mins in water card it off then rust blue it really you have already molested it so do it right
