@@Sycsa Different recording possibly, but I checked 'Dream Theater - Illumination Theory - Boston Opera House Bootleg' on KZfaq and I'd say this is absolutely representative of how he sounded on their cam recording very minor tweaking side (really the biggest difference is that you can actually hear the orchestra and backing choir instead of it just being Rudess's keyboards only in this version for some absolutely bizzare reason). Such a shame there's not much chance of him sounding this good in the past decade.

I've never picked up on that! Dream Theater over many years has grown and grown to be my favourite band of all time, my first album was the self titled back in 2013? Picked the CD up by chance at a store (had heard of them but never really listened to them). Illumination Theory quickly became my go to song in the car, has been a journey of discovery ever since, they have so much music to digest. When you "get it".. greatest band of all time.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but whenever I see other musicians work alongside my beloved DT, whether its Teresa Thomason on Scenes Live in NY or covering Dark Side of the Moon, or the choir and orchestra playing in this concert with Erin Basbug or the previous orchestra playing under Jamshied Sharifi; just to see any moment of enjoyment, groove or fun on the faces of the musicians means a lot to me. In this concert a few times you see the members of the choir and orchestra seem to groove or smile, it makes me feel great that some them enjoy this sort of excessive, yet highly literate and melodic music.

Came to this channel purely by chance Was looking for some help - my mum died 2 weeks ago She was a classically trained singer and loved most music full stop! I inherited her voice and then she taught me as I grew older At her funeral I sang my heart out for her and when people approached me afterwards and said I had such a good voice I told them it was her voice not mine! Just wanted to comment because I am struggling so hard at the moment and now having found this music I dont think I will ever be able to stop playing it! Thank you for giving me some peace xx

Mangini has a way of blasting out one-handed, full-stroke rolls in a cool way and getting away with it. He's like, sure I'll do a 4-stroke roll across the toms, only I'm going to use one hand on each tom in quick succession and go in different directions. I grew up loving Neil Peart's playing, but I'm not tied to any one drummer being the best. That competitive spirit for the accomplishment of others isn't particularly rewarding for me - I just love interesting drumming/music.
