The zoom out to see the whole page is one of my favourite new features. It's useful when drawing cause I zoom in and out all the time, sometimes my drawings are bigger than one page on it's own

Yes, exactly! Plus, at least in my discipline, the margins of PDF documents are often formatted very poorly, if they're there at all, so it's wonderful to be able to effectively create my own margins for annotations by zooming out.

I just got my reMarkable 2 today, updated it (twice) to newest S/W version. No zoom button, no zoom to page :-( This really sucks. Is this supposed to be an improvement? Only allowing zoom by pinch is really terrible.

My feelings as a resident who uses the device daily: 1. The pan/zoom function seems very responsive for me, so I'm a big fan. Some accidental panning but I find it easy to return to default (black border shows and snaps into place) and it doesn't happen often. 2. Extended pages have been very useful for writing all my notes on a given topic within a single page. I certainly see how it isn't useful to everyone, but as a student it is a great feature. Would love to see page breaks implemented for exporting however. 3. The typed text and typed text editing feature falls very short for me. So clunky I refuse to use it until it improves. When you delete it deletes the handwriting above! Love my ReMarkable 2, but this one hurt. 4. With that said, handwriting conversion alone seems to work well and I actually don't mind it saving as a seperate page. Overall, 3.0 is positive. Progress is always nice to see and every new update excites me. I just hope ReMarkable knows they need to do better to keep up with the competition.

When scrolling the page around, I found spreading you fingers at least 1/2 inch apart works better than fingers to close together. Thanks for the video. Great work and very informative. Much value!!!

Hi Voja. I want to mention some things you didn't talk in the video and they are improved. When you zoom and navigate through the page I think there is less ghosting (my personal feeling, don't have to be true) and after you stop for 1 or 2 seconds it will refresh. I really love this because I creating maps and when I want to work on some details the screen is clear. The refreshes are also improved in selecting tool. When you select something, move it, scale, copy, paste the refresh goes after you did all of this (pause of 2 seconds). It is much smoother then before. Another thing I accidentally discovered and really surprised me is that you can have templetes on note pages in PDFs. When I was browsing the document I came across inserted pages made in notebook and they have template. So when you put note pages in PDFs the templete will stay but you can't change it.

Vertical scrolling is the only thing I care about. I do math on it and sometimes a calculation takes pages. It sucks to either have to change the page or shrink everything and move it mid calculation. I can now just keep scrolling and working without interruption. As far as I'm concerned this is doing everything I could hope for in a device. Granted I only have one use for it, but I use it all day long. I'm pleased as punch with this.

Hi Voja, thank you for another great review! - I'm always looking forward to your videos and was curious about this one in particular. As a teacher I must say I really appreciate that new feature with margins - the one you find so confusing.. :) Let me tell you why I'm so glad to have it - in my lessons I use lots of pdf books and need to include quite a lot of info in them for my students to learn on top of what's already mentioned in the books. Of course I could add new pages with all that info.. However, then I would no longer have the option to find a certain page easily if the numbering changed. So it gives me the extra space needed for both sharing useful and interesting info or insights with my students and for my notes on what to mention next time without interfering with the well-functioning workflow. I've also noticed that to reset the view you need the 2-finger gesture - scroll untill you see a black rectangle along the edges of Remarkable screen - that is the 'main view'. Not the best way to implement it (as we are already quite used to with Remarkable) but works fine for me. Or we have the option to go to the next page and go back.. Must say Remarkable taught me to be more patient if nothing else.. :) I am also super grateful for the landscape mode (finally!!! after sooo many years..) and the gestures for undo and redo which I happen to use waaay to often.. The landscape is also perfect for MDO as it makes it easier to write in it without having to use zoom. Cannot wait to start using it this way! Thank you for all the hard work you do for us, your fans! Stay safe, stay healthy and see you in your next video. :) Hope to see/hear Blarg as well! :D

Thank you for sharing the use case scenario :) I totally agree that this is a useful option to have, but I also think that it would be a lot more complete if there was a toggle mode, so that access to the extra margins space can be toggle on or off, per document, depending on the needs. Mainly because as it is now, you don't have an easy way to navigate around pages in Landscape Mode without having a third or more of the screen being occupied by an empty margin. Great when you want it, but when you just want to read, it's quite frustrating and distracting, at least to me it is. I just wish they would start implementing things in a bit more complete and professional manner, i mean, they are now a 1bil USD evaluated company with hundreds of employees and have been around for over 5 years. It's about time to get their act together as far as software development side of things go.
@lenulini
@lenulini Жыл бұрын
@@MyDeepGuide Definitely agree on that. Actually when not needed I find it distracting too - and it's supposed to be a distraction free tool, what an irony! Another thing is that way too often I accidently uncover the margin on top when all I want is just to close the document.. They haven't thought most things through. I still miss so many things which I consider basic stuff. Like having the opportunity to add a blank page - but why blank? Why can't we use templates? And speaking of templates why not our own templates? And I could continue..

Any of these features that they added should be able to be turned on or off in the settings. Vertical and horizontal scrolling: it’s a mess Scaling: agree, it’s a mess Typed text: they have kept it so tight and focussed on hand writing up until now that I simply don’t understand the focus on typed text. I now expect font sizes and styling, indents, bullets and most importantly: a responsive keyboard experience. What many people are actually waiting for (and complaining about): an indexing and bookmarking system and a way to add a second tool in the toolbar (so you can more easily switch between a pen and a marker for example)

Dear Voja, Happy New Year. In actiological terms the review is at the top level which you have used us to expect from u, 2thumps up. As far as the update is concerned, I have to mention that, along with the mixed -typed and handwrited via computer for the time being- ways of creating notebooks, 2 major key factors are very important for me. The first is the smoothness of rearranging the size of the page with two fingers which obsiously make the handling of the file significantly easier- this particular you didnt mention to that video. The second one is the ability to extend the leghth of notebook's pages theoritically to infinity. I used the beta version and I was thrilled about that. Conclusively it is a decent update which improved the tablet's abilities a lot. The only thing for us to wait for is the note taking ability of the smartphones. I have also to say is that the update came after 1.5 month since it announced and this is obviously a poor managerial strategy with bla bla, emails concerned what is about to happen and so on. Stay health and keep the good job up. Cheers lad.

Hi Voja, I dont know if anybody else has noticed but it seems that regarding the Zooming issue remarkable has decided on a 100% stick point where if you zoom out you can only zoom in again to 100%. and the same if you zoom in you can only zoom out again to 100%. And at 100% the edges of the page turns black for a moment. I agree that a button or stroke or visualisation of the zoomarea like on the Boox Air would have been nice but as it is this can work for me. I completely agree that from one day to the other changing the entire setup of all notebooks to this unlimited page is annoying because i quicky gets lost in the zooms and swipings and I liked the quick swipe new page a lot and that seems to be gone now. SO I would have liked the option on a notebook level to switch the unlimited page on/off! Thank you again for a GREAT review dripping with sarcasme!!

I agree, but the problem is exactly what you described so nicely: interaction with device is now turned into a myriad of vague touch gestures and hoping for the right results, only so that you can get back to working. That is a definition of a distraction. If the device was a snappy and a responsive one, so that it can effortlessly handle gestures, then sure, that would work fine, but RM2 is most definitely not it, and RM1 even less so.

I love the vertical scrolling pages, ability to insert text onto a written page and text conversion onto a new page! I'm a lawyer and prior to buying my remarkable I went through tons and tons of yellow legal pads, flipping over the page whenever I needed more space for my notes. Now with the new update I can draft a document by hand on one "page", splitting it up more intelligibly with text headings, and then convert the whole thing to text on a new page so it's much closer to a finished product (while still on my device). I don't use PDFs on the remarkable very often, but thinking back to when I was a student I can definitely see the appeal of being able to "zoom out" from a particularly busy PDF page and write notes around the margins. I agree the lack of a "return to default view" button is a bit janky but hopefully that can be easily remedied in a new update or patch.

@@MyDeepGuide I wish you could move typed text on a page with the cursor tool the same way you can move handwriting - it feels odd to not be able to click and drag a typed heading the way you can click and drag anything else! To add to the comment strings on why have the zoom out go to where you see the page edges, o find this useful for understanding a print preview type of experience. The landscape mode makes a huge difference for the rM1. We can now use it without having to worry about touching the buttons with our hands. (Upside down would have been better, but never mind). The extending page is also good for note taking because it saves you for having to select all of the pages when you want to convert to text.

I liked when you didn't have to confirm adding a page, instead if you add a new page by swiping right you should be able to undo it by swiping left immediately. And they should also add an option to fix pages, because sometimes when i try to open the page scroller it starts scrolling down and I have to reset everything. More variation and customization would be really nice. And add more languages?? There still aren't czech symbols like ščěř etc.

Great review. I used the desktop to copy in text from word file with English and 2 other languages of text. It copied it in on desktop app. One of them was Chinese characters, not sure how rM is able to recognize font. Upon syncing, rM does not recognize text but the desktop version has 3 different languages viewable and able to type in separate language on the desktop app that I have installed on Windows. Seems they could have added in fonts on the tablet, sort of neat but not usable...

Hello. They have done something that I have been waiting for a long time. Sometimes someone sends me a PDF document that I had to fill out, annotate, sign, etc. Before I had to print it to write and scan (paper waste). With R2 it is not necessary to print but I had to adjust it as I could to adapt it to real size. Now in landscape mode, the width of the document matches the actual size of din-A4 and I can write in actual size. Before the notes were created only in the size of the notebook, which is a Din-A5 (I think) but now I can create notes in landscape mode at real size for a Din-A4 document. I don't know, maybe I don't get the performance that I could, but I find this useful. Thanks

I agree with you Voja the zooming in and out is a mess because you have no way to quickly zoom out to original size..always wants to zoom to outside the page.. I never used the handwriting rekognition. I am not sure if I'll use it that way now. But Its good to see that it works close to errorless. I like the infinity paper but sadly its just infintiy length. and not in all direktions. That would be a wish I still have. Zooming is very important and sadly it seems like it works worse than before. That's very sad. Landscape mode is wonderfull! finally. Landcape with splitscreen would be the next great step. especially for reading books. - Some wishes I need to try now are if notes (on a pdf or in an ebook) are scalable or only on it's right place when seen at the same scale when written. Having the overall menü on the tip of the pen would be very handy.

Ok, but don't you find that to be an incredibly distracting way of using it? Instead of actually double tapping or having a simple function that always works ,without you needing to look for a black frame while pinch zooming? Or better yet, having an option to not allow zooming out past the document page size, if you don't want it to?
@Ekzuzy
@Ekzuzy Жыл бұрын
@@MyDeepGuide I tested zooming in and out and in my case when I (un)zoom, I cannot do it past the default zoom level in a single gesture. The zooming stops at the default level and a black border appears. And in order to continue zooming in or out, I need to stop the gesture and start it once again. In my opinion this behaviour is quite natural... but is definitely broken as it not always works. Another thing other people mentioned - undo / redo gestures are just a single tap. And one last thing I'd like to add - exporting to pdf changes the size/zoom level of a page when there is something written on extended margins. Infinite pages are just longer. But wider pages are scaled down to have the same width making the contents smaller. It's worth mentioning. Nevertheless, thank Your thorough reviews and preparing great content on Your channel!

I don't even know where to start.. I am so frustrated by this update that I bought a Supernote A5X and I am surprisingly enjoying how effortless writing, reading and organizing is on SN software. I suspect that the new software might be too demanding, or the RM is struggling while uploading these exaggerated pages (which I am not using at all, but they are still there), now it's slower, there is a lot of ghosting and screen flashes too much. If I open a notebook, even template lines are loading gradually and flickering. I can't believe that I am saying this, but my eyes now get tired from working on RM2. The overall 'paper-like' experience now feels like browsing internet on a Boox device. 1) Writing became a struggle: slowly loading pages, flickering. Already twice by now I got frozen screen while using eraser, after restart about 2 pages of notes were lost. 2) Reading and annotating pdfs is even more of a struggle. For me the crucial feature was cropping the margin in adjust view. I read a lot of pdfs for work and the most efficient way for me is to see the full page in portrait view with text stretched to the full size screen. Now there is no such an option, the only way to adjust a page to the screen size is to use zoom which takes about 10 minutes per page. 3) There are a lot of tiny annoying bugs in this update which are not critical and I would probably be able to live with them. 4) There are new exciting features which many users find useful. However, they come at a cost of affecting the smoothness of performance and bring more gadget-like experience compared to paper pad - like experience as it was before.

very good video's, i watch them all entirely - one common remark : on multiple occasion your swiping gestures give the impression that reMarkable 2 is not responsive - however, it has more to do with how you actually use your fingers, e.g. using 2 fingers requires both fingers to have a space in between them so the device actually recognizes that you are using 2 fingers instead of 1 (the videos clearly show that you have a tendency to stick your 2 fingers against each other). Additionally, your swiping down/across is not properly followed by the device, so jt would help to only use 1 extended finger and keep the other 4 fingers completely bent (also here the videos clearly show that you are doing 1 finger swipes with all 5 fingers extended, so the device seems to get confused). Hope this is constructive feedback to increase your sweeping efficiency (more or less comparable with finger exercises for piano players). Keep Up the Deep Guides !!!

I don't think they've implemented anything yet. I mean you can't even copy or paste text (this is the entirety of what Update 3.1 is bringing, copy past text and some moving around of icons). So no, it's a complete mess and I have absolutely no idea what are they doing with any of this.

That outside page view you're talking about as confusing at around the 24 minute mark: would that work as additional "margin space" you can take notes on? I mean, you can already write on the page itself, but maybe that's what they had in mind?
@MyDeepGuide
@MyDeepGuide Жыл бұрын
Yes it would, but it completely interferes with normal operations of a regular reader. So at the very least, there should be an option to toggle that functionality on or off, not have it on all the time and completely ruin the reading functionality by always showing empty margins on the top or bottom...

It's some great stuff, searching typed text and to type is pretty big. But the fact that you can't move the text around is really bad. I'm surprised you didn't go over that. And it's really annoying that there is another step to making a new page now... And typed text doesn't match any templates. I do love that we have a gesture for undo, but I'm finding it unreliable. I can't hide the menu yet though, I need a gesture for switching between pen and selection tool. 9:15 Probably you know now, but you gotta zoom in more to get back to the default and it'll snap and show you an indication of it. Surprised you didn't try more.

For me, the update, which is supposed to be big now, is absolutely disappointing. Who needs that? Maybe the somewhat enlarged pages may be good for some creative people, but otherwise? Typed text, within a handwritten one? For what? I looked at the comments here and found no one except for the teacher who found this useful. Ok, the do and redo function is very good. But it takes 3 years for that? What I need for years is quick access to switch between pen sizes. Will I buy a Remarkable 3 again? I don't know. There are now so many good competitors on the market.I like the concept that you don't overload the tablet with functions. But even for this approach there are still enough ideas for the software they did not realized yet.

The one feature I was waiting for was the handwriting to text conversion. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! First, it incorrectly identified my handwriting; Second did not recognize text on multiple lines! Instead, put all converted text concatenated on one line. I created a college ruled Notebook and distinctly wrote between the ruled lines. I was hoping this would be the update that I could retire my Livescribe Pen & Paper system. Livescribe does a Wonderfull job at recognizing my handwriting - so I know it can be done. The Remarkable 2 yet again goes back on the shelf. 😡😥

Technically, it should be able to do a handwriting search on unconverted writing by converting it 'behind the scenes' and highlighting each written word converted on-the-fly into a search match. This assumes they're doing conversion word by word rather than using some clever sentence analysis.
