I think it really depends on your need. I purchased Remarkable 2 a few months ago and I don't regret it at all. I have only one requirement: a device that is as close to paper-like feeling as possible. Remarkable 2 definitely wins in this category. As for other features, I don't care, I am a programmer and I just don't want to look at the screen like iPad's anymore......so if you just simply want to read books or maybe academic papers and add some hand-written notes, I strongly suggest buying Remarkable 2.

I am going to study cs in college this fall and I am considering buying a Remarkable 2 for notetaking and annotating pdf documents only. I became interested in it because of its eye-friendly screen. Could you explain your experience with remarkable 2? Are you able to open pdf versions of college textbooks (maybe more than 1000 pages) in it to annotate? Is it tiring to take long or fast notes on it? And is it worth the cost specially in long run? Thanks.

Hey man, I'm thinking to buy remarkable 2 for college, Im studing Telecomunnications Engineering, I know I pad is better when you obly have 1 device, buy, in class I use my laptop, with books and the pdfs I need, and then I use paper and pencik to take notes, and I am thinking in replace the paper with the remarkable, only for taking notes (a lot of maths, waves drawings etc) and for using it as a kindke reading before bed. I like a lot the paper feeling, the things is that I sweat a lot my hands, and I hate damage the papers, the thing I wanna know, Is when my hands sweat, will that make it hardwe to write in the remarkable 2? Or can it damage the device??

Sadly remarkable is not as useful. I’m one of the first reMarkable’s user. I give my device to someone else who don’t use it again. Many concerns. Read ePub = false as reMarkable can’t read AdobeDRM because Adobe don’t develop an API for LinuxOS (badly AdobeDRM is the most frequent DRM system and the worst one for a longtime use with many devices, I have a lot of ebooks that I can’t reinstall), nor any other DRM (Kindle, Kobo, …) and many PDF are difficult to read on reMarkable. Use anywhere = not because it don’t have a light as an usual ebook reader like Kindle, Kobo, Boox, etc. So can’t be use, not only in dark conference room but also in shade place, it needs a direct light. The back screen is too dark gray instead of white. Transferring note is very improductive, too long process for script converting, only send by email and don’t keep a converted file. Impossible to add blank pages to a PDF for additionnal handwriting notes or assembled doc (as a work with many extracts from website, books, excel, word doc saved in PDF, scanned doc, add a stored picture or take one on the same device to add in the notebook, something I do daily for my works). Finally, I only use GoodNotes on my iPad instead of the risk of eyestrains (the worst effect of an iPad or other similar tablets). I tried a Nova Boox. It’s fine. With GoogleStore, we can install many apps as Kindle and Kobo to read their DRM and Adobe DRM ebooks. Also Edge (or Chrome or Firefox) to have the ability to print website or download pdf doc and after annotates them. Dropbox, Box and Google Drive are compatible. Badly GoodNotes have not an Android version. Today, if I want an eink professionnal device, I will look for this kind of products, Boox is not the only one but for now one of the best for multitasking. The prices of each are expensive, all around 800$ (Canada) for 11inches screen. So iPad with the Apple integration I need with my other devices and computers stay the best choice for me. That said, every person can have different needs.

I agree. I downloaded a planner but I really prefer to use different colors on a calendar to quickly see work, home, kids schedules, etc. There are many other examples where color would come in handy but that's the biggest one. Oh wait, a highlighter that was actually yellow or a different color. A gray highlight isn't very useful.

I think the biggest misconception about these reviews, is that more features = a better product. For productivity and work, you want devices that perform specific tasks well, while not enabling you to go down a rabbit hole of possible actions = wasting time. For the business executive that needs to organise notes (going paperless) the remarkable seems a much a better product than ipad.
@paperlessmovement
@paperlessmovement 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you to keep it simple is a plus. But I can achieve this with an iPad too with the additional flexibility to set it up the way I need it. At the same time organizing notes and more importantly making them available on other platforms isn’t really a strength of reMarkable in my opinion. Hence, the iPad does the job that I want to accomplish creating notes much better. I can stay in control of my knowledge base the way I need it.

I have both as well, and came to the comments to say something very similar to you. There is something to be said the stark simplicity of reMarkable.. when I take notes on the iPad, i find myself constantly tweaking and futzing with the notes. But I ultimately use the iPad more often since it's easier to integrate with my overall workflow.

I have neither so I'm curious of the weight comparison between the two devices. The reason I ask is in the past I've purchased Samsung tablets and Microsoft Surface Pro 4. I don't use either as a table because they seem overweight. I like the Apple Air products because the apple product seems light. Could you tell me about weight comparisons and describe if the products seem bulky?

I recently added a reMarkable2 to my set of devices and it immediately got the core of my planning, reading and writing. I still have my iPad Pro 12,9" in use, of course, but no longer for note taking. I'm back at focused reading, writing and learning - it feels like paper, as you mentioned, it is so super thin and it is a joy to use as a digital notebook, focused on my tasks. If I finish my work I export the notebook as a set of PNG images to Evernote. I love this device. And, I love my iPad, too, for all the other stuff - but, the rm2 is much more often in front of me than my iPad :-) It's worth for me because it doesn't stress my eyes so much, distraction free learning (writing & reading) and it's easily to use it outside, even in the direct sun (iPad gets warm due to high screen brightness and eats a lot of battery)

Remarkable 2 does not strain your eyes as the other smart tablets do. This felt like an unfair comparison as I don't think you actually use the Remarkable much or even ever do much writing on paper. The Remarkable really helps people who love to write on paper to experience such feelings while going paperless. Your arguments for iPad: if applying those points, you may as well just go with a laptop, it does the same thing and lots of laptops now are just as thin and light as an iPad while offering much more functionality and hardware customization.

I have both. I wanted to take Ipad notes, but first I didn't like it. For a quarter, I used the Remarkable but I found myself having issues with page size, and how it translated into PDFs; so I needed to not make each page too large, etc. That is why I switched to regular paper for taking notes in a class. Then I was out of home, no Remarkable and no paper, and needed to take notes and had my ipad and the Targus stylus. I used the ipad and the Stylus and surprisingly it worked really well plus I was able to have different colors for the "ink" of the pen and actually see the colors right away. I completely agree, and I love writing on my iPad BUT if you can afford both the remarkable (I have only the 1, not the 2 - can’t justify the cost to upgrade. Lol) is a fantastic writing experience for serious writing. I find it a bit unwieldy for on the fly note taking, you have to deliberately have it with you, but sitting in silence and just writing something the remarkable is unparalleled. The saving of everything in a pdf you can then read or review on your iPad is useful too. And the distraction free nature helps - my iPad is full of work apps and the dreaded temptation to ruin your evening. But it’s a pure luxury and a huge expense over and above an iPad. And brings up the next question - if you can afford both… hmmm why not get an iPad Pro…. Remarkable is very niche. But if it works for you it’s very nice.

Yes it is quite expensive ... but the argument “you can get tons of paper for the same price is not wise ... it could be applied to iPad and where do you store the thousand real pages ? I am a fan of my iPad / pencil as well ... yes Procreate is a fantastic App, yes Apple Note is great (Notes organisation is not as simple as on the rM) etc.... Indeed, I would say that both are not really comparable, I simply don’t use them in the same circumstances, Even if you are not convinced about reMarkable ... I Purchased a remarkable tablet as well to see how it would stack up against my iPad. I think I’m going to send mine back as well. It’s a nice device but I just don’t think it’s worth $350 for what it does. Plus with the lack of a back lighting it makes it a limited use device in low lighting.

The addition of the paid required cloud membership and lack of integration for Evernote are making me reluctant to purchase more of these for my team's use. And I do somewhat find the interface and organization a little confusing, meaning I often just use it like an electronic notebook where I just put each new note on a new page in one ongoing digital document rather than taking full advantage of templates or organized, easy to find notes.

I have a remarkable 2, a Samsung s7 plus and used to have an iPad pro. I gave iPad pro to my mom and using the other two. Remarkable 2 as my notebook that replaced the paper and Samsung s7 plus for everything else a tablet can do and more. I do use S7 plus for certain note taking with Samsung note app. The s-pen feels amazing and having three windows on one screen (I do one window with pdf, another window for KZfaq and the note taking app on the other). Something iPad can never do. Also for some reason, I still felt I was writing on the glass on iPad while remarkable 2 really solved that problem with e-ink and Samsung's s-pen has this flexing pen tip that somehow eliminates the glass feeling that iPad with apple pencil probably cannot solve as long as they keep that form factor. As a result, remarkable 2 might sound pricy but it does replace paper completely especially if you take notes at work. What is completely overpriced is iPad.

In my opinion the video misses on emphasising the "flavour" of the the Remarkable. I have the Remarkable 2 and the iPad Pro 11". If you only can afford one, get the iPad, ok. But you will miss out on things the author should have point out regarding the Remarkable. Not possible doing this in a comment. I can say a paperlike folio on the iPad is a downgrade for the iPad when considering the plus and minuses.

I see the arguments well and come more and more to the remarkable. Simply because it can do less and furthermore no need to charge it every day. I see the possibilities on the iPad quite well but also this seems to be the issue - less is more, I guess. Thanks for the effort of your comparison - that helped a lot. May I ask, if I got it right that one can get a calendar for remarkable as well? THX in advance, Uwe

I've bought three iPads for work over the years thinking I would use them for taking notes and testing games (I work in games). But we hardly ever used them!!! I have bought one Remarkable2 and use it daily for writing. Ideally I never have to buy another paper note book / moleskin ever again. Do I have a Remarkable2 wishlist. I sure do. I wish I could scroll / have one long page instead of having to flip through pages. But that's about it.

I just purchased Remarkable 2 and will be returning it . I really dislike many features about it such as the screen colour itself. The dull grey is not appealing , nothing beats a fresh white page. There is not way of brightening the screen either, I would never use this as reader. The highlighters , even though you have the three colour , does not appear in colour on your screen , its only when you send the doc.? I was hoping to be able to write in my handwriting and convert it to text as I please. This can only be done when your are going to send it to document. For me I agree with the review , totally. Its not worth the $800 I paid with the pen. Thanks for your honest review.

I don't understand how the Remarkable 2 can be compared to an ipad pro when the prices are so different. The base model ipad pro with pen is $868. The base model rm2 with pen is just under $450. The ipad is almost twice as much money. I can't just run out and buy an Ipad with the money I set aside for a Remarkable 2. It seems bizarre to be comparing them like this.

@shelleyelli
@shelleyelli 3 жыл бұрын
Right... But this video isn't comparing the basic ipad with the Remarkable 2. So the video is misleading and not nearly as helpful as the title implies. If I'm going to spend comparable money, it would be most useful to have an idea of the comparable experience. Why didn't you compare the basic ipad with the RM2? Is it because the basic ipad isn't that much better? So for the amount of money, should we get the RM2? We still don't know so the video doesn't actually help make the decision.

I couldn't agree more. He brings it down to the one and only point that kills the product for me: the price. If it was 120 EUR with the pen included... I'd probably jump on it for journaling, brain storming, notes, etc. But over 500 EUR? Not including the pen? That's a bit like: "hey, here's your car :-) it comes without steering wheel, but you can buy it separately." Well... thank you very much. I'll stick to my Surface Pro 7 for as long as it lasts and then I'll probably go for an iPad Pro in a year or so.

The Remarkable 2 is amazing and awesome...but it has to fit your needs. I bought it for it's no-distractions and for work - so i can use it at work and in meetings and it's not distracting like plopping an ipad on the table. and for that , it is amazing. but, he is 100% correct. it's too expensive and having no backlight is the WORST. i am going to buy an ipad pro soon because i think being able to easily share notes between devices is invaluable. it's an interesting debate. I love my Remarkable. I love the size and feel. but it's limiting in what it does and without a backlight it's limited in when you can use it.

you're comparing apples to oranges. Remarkable 2 is limited to a very specific purpose and for very small group of people across all industries. The extremely high cost (for what it is and what it can do) suggests it's marketed to corporate executives and their teams. Perhaps when they've paid their investors back with the return they expect, their next (consumer) version will be much cheaper, as this is no more.than a $200 device; and that's being generous.

It really depends on what app you use, i believe goodnotes 5, which is maybe like $10 max on the app store has OCR built-in and you can search through your notes. I don't know if it supports all character-sets though. Not really a feature I use too often. After owning an ipad pro for like 4 years I just realized that you can use your pencil instead of keyboard input for websites and apps lol

In my opinion people should consider to protect their brain/eyes a bit more. I have an iPad pro (with paperlike) and a reMarkable 2. Even with paperlike use, my eyes are really tired after a day of using the iPad pro. And using paper, well yes you can do that but anno 2022 its all about replacing those kinda materials right? So far, for me, nothing nothing came close to the experience of using the reMarkable when you really like to take notes and make sketches. I do miss using colors a bit, but your getting used to that quite easily. I do understand it's an expensive device, but to me its worth every penny. I wouldn't want to miss the RM2. Another funny fact; since I received my RM2 my iPad Pro naturally changed from being a device that's being used daily/hourly to a device that sits on a power unit more than that its actually being used. My child likes to play some games on it, but thats about it. Ofcourse its personal references, but I think at some point everyone like to gives their eyes some rest in this digital world. Health is the most important thing, but we keep underestimate it untill something happens. To me, the RM2 is a solution my brain and my eyes deeply appreciate.
