I'm a great dog fan. This was a wonderful episode. I have a suggestion for Objectivity from the USA. I recently read that the Library of Congress has a new Librarian. Brady and Keith should pack a bag and travel the pond to give us an insiders tour of the LoC. I bet Keith could easily solicit an invite. You both deserve a field trip and I can't think of better envoy than the likes of you.

Personally, my dog is basically a mathematician. He can do 2-1, 10-9, 205-204, 0+1, -2,730-(-2,731), 1,067,633,305^0, [25x-24=1, solve for x], and a seemingly infinite number of various complex mathematic problems.

As always, a fascinating episode; thank you for this series! One question: In the book of minutes shown at 2:48, what is the annotation above the one of the dog? Hi there Objectivity people. I have been a subscriber since episode one and I generally do enjoy your work: it is a little humorous, a little science-y, a little quirky and charmingly, Britishly, self aware. In this episode though, I find that you make crude jokes about, and at the expense of, animals that where being used for research in most painful ways. Now, I think scientific experimentation on animals is sometimes needed and sometimes that it even needs to be painful (and fatal) but what it need not be is disrespectfully joked about. You might think that Pavlov's experiments were necessary (I tend to disagree) and valuable (I tend to agree) but they where, in absolutely no mening of the word, ethical. It is easy to fall into a jargon about things that one is exposed to regularly and in the case of science, one of the things we are exposed to is a somewhat detached attitude towards the animals that are used, and sometimes rather gruesomely used up, in the pursuit of, hopefully, knowledge. To some, it might be rather revolting to hear such lapses of empathy from someone that himself have dogs. Granted, I am a meat eater, and some might find it hypocritical that I complain about jokes at the expense of the anguish of long dead dogs but will happily eat recently killed pigs and cattle. There would be something to that critique but there is a difference: one is killed as swiftly as possible and the other is put through prolonged, excruciating anguish. For both groups of animals, I feel, there should be some humble respect. Any way, that made me unsubscribe in disgust, but I thought better of it and decided to give you a "second chans" and to re-subscribe and write this explanation of my thoughts on the video and the subject. I apologize for the rambling and for my lacking grasp of English, as it is not my mother tongue.
