We are on the very edge of becoming empty nesters and we talked about these memories just the other day! "Remember when she colored on the carpet with markers?" "Remember when she didn't want to get in the car seat and suddenly it took 40lbs per square inch of force to get her in it?" "Remember when Grandma gave her a bad of pepperoni to snack on during Christmas Eve mass?" . Yeah, good times. It's all funny and precious now. But if you showed up with a time machine and said "Go back and re-live it" ....Ummm..no thank you. I need that hint of rose in my glasses 🙂

When my now-teenager was under 5, most days had large chunks that were not fun at all - epic tantrums, refusing to nap, up at least 3 times a night, chronic ear infections, etc, and even now I still twitch a little when 'reminiscing'... 😄 I will never miss any part of those years. I do enjoy running across some of the pics when she was a happy camper, as rare as that could be sometimes! And I do still like to coo over all the cute baby stuff at Target!

The actual footage is priceless! Sounds you can't replicate as an adult, the memory of the intense afternoon heat, the glare from the parents you can still feel on your back, and their whispers you can hear in your ears. Luckily every game ended with a frozen snack for the players.......and cold "pop" for the coach when they get home.

Giving our 5 yr old son a panick attack yelling "Mamma!! Mamma! She's swinging she's swinging! Make her stop!" And to think she's been married 3 yrs now, and has an 11 month old and a 23 month old(boys) born on the same day(12 months apart)!! While every stage has its challenges and awesome moments, I absolutely miss the days when the oldest was in preschool and the others were tiny and we had zero idea about homework, fundraising (former pto president here), and stress of hormones. And college talk (so not ready). They were just so dang cute.

I remember when our son had a blow out in church after my hubby decided to experiment and feed our son baked beans and the pews are cloth covered- good times! Or going to the zoo and Momma (me) who packed the diaper bag and ......forgot the diapers! Poor kid had public restroom paper towels stuffed inside an already soiled diaper. I remember going to a friends cabin for a weekend and the kids got into the permanent makers and decided to color on their hardwood floors. THE Best times! 😂😂😂

I found my son at 13 months old (he started walking at 9 months) on top of out apartment refrigerator (smaller than most home versions). He'd pushed a chair over, then got up on that, then on the counter, then on a stack of cookbooks next to the fridge. All that in time time it took me to pee (it was 400 sq ft apt). I also found him sucking on a tube from his father's insulin pump and freaked out (perfectly safe going into the belly), then there was the time he chewed the glow sticks and he glowed for almost two days (why don't they last that long IN the sticks??). Or when he was in 1st grade and got up some time after I went to bed and ate club store sized tub of raw cookie dough, didn't tell ME he felt sick, Nope! He told the school nurse who TRIED to lecture me on this. I stopped her and said unless I chain that fridge shut, I can't stay awake 24/7! This kid only sleeps 3 hours a night! I'm dyin' here! Oh the stories I could tell. But he has sensory processing so he won't eat fruit, or most any other foods. OH and there were the two years that the only thing he would eat was peanut butter crunch cereal. Don't lecture me I was burnt out, he lives and is now a 6 foot tall bean pole who can still eat anything he wants at 22. He's so picky from the sensory issues (to this day at 53 I cannot eat stone fruit or bananas- to slimy feeling) Yeah he gets his ADHD and autism from me.

Edit: I scrolled down. SO many comments of people being all, "They just started school! I'm a mess". I must be a weirdo. My youngest just graduated high school and I'm all WHOOT!!! ALL DONE WITH THOSE HIDEOUS SCHOOL SHENANIGANS! I've loved every part of their development. Really enjoyed it. But you couldn't pay me enough to go back and relive it. I'm good with young adults. I never had kids of my own, though I have four grand nephews and one grand niece, so I never had to deal with that. That said, I was on the Metro (DC's subway) a few days ago. And I saw a mom with two kids in tow, a boy who looked around three and a girl around five or so. The girl was quiet but the boy was screaming his head off! And the mom wrestled him into the stroller but he just kept screaming. Part of me wanted to offer help, but I just kept observing the scene. Kids don't come with instruction manuals, but they should. Long story short, very young children can't process their emotions well and don't want to wait for something. It takes a long time to learn patience and how to handle deep feelings.
