My grandparents had the daily newspaper, so I would just borrow their paper when they were done with it to see what me, and my dad wanted to watch on a Sunday afternoon as he was a big movie buff. it was also the days when on Sunday in my area due to blue laws almost nothing but gas stations, and places eat( a lot elected to not open before 1pm) could open before 1pm So it was almost always a 1:30 pm or 2:30pm movie for us on a lazy Sunday.

@@cristinaf3844 None of the theaters in my area had that till the mid - late 90's, and by that point I could just use my dial-up internet, and look up the listings for all the theaters in my area via Yahoo, Excite, or Lycos faster along with getting quick reviews so I did not waste my money on a bad movie.

Its also Tim Burton at the time only has Pee Wee's Big Adventure to his credit, a mixed reception to that at best, and Beetlejuice while absolutely brilliant and hilarious, few people saw, because word didn't get around so easily and a few critics had a monopoly on being listened to about what to see or skip

I remember in the early 83 when my mother got her first VCR being a top loader that popped up cost her well over $400 USD, and we kept that sucker well in the the mid 90's when it finally died, and could not be fixed. Don't quote, but think it was a Panasonic model, we also had a Mattel Intellivision which she said cost her $250 USD, while also buying her first house as a single mother on a banker's salary. So it guess it depended on how good your job was, but stuff sure was more expensive back then when account for inflation, but a lot of it was built to last.
