“For many of us the thought of not having BB King on this earth seemed surreal. A man larger than life who was a constant, something you can set your watch to. The sun will rise and fall and B.B. King will play the blues. Sadly, today the sun rose but the music was silent. To say that the loss of B.B. King is devastating to the blues community is an understatement. He defined the blues, he was the blues. He brought blues to an audience that would never have found the blues if B.B. was not the conduit. Never again will there be another as good, gracious or as kind as Mr. King. When Mr. King came off the road last year I couldn't believe nor wanted to accept that I would never hear his nephew Walter King introduce him again, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, the King of the Blues, Mr B.B. King!’ That combined with the fast shuffle and the horn stabs as the man himself walked onstage was enough to convince this kid on May 24, 1990 that a life in the blues was for me. The excitement those words caused over the thousands of shows to the millions of people will never be matched or equaled. Those shows that I saw - almost 50 in total over the past 25 years - changed my life. Thank you Mr. King for the inspiration, the motivation, the support, your friendship and, most importantly, the music which I love so dearly. Rest in peace, my friend.”

I saw B. B. less than a year before he passed. Surf Ballroom and I was in line 2 hours before the door opened. They allowed you to stand by the stage and I was 20 feet from him. His band did a set before he came out, then the King came out. He played. He talked. Played some more and told some stories. We all sang together on his closing song. 'You are my sunshine.' For a little over an hour, you knew what it felt like to be in the presence of greatness. I miss him. I miss the music.

I saw BB in Nashville at the Ryman, not long before he passed. He was very confused, would start a tune, then stop and introduce a couple of band members he had just introduced... he never completed a tune, the cool thing was, he had the crowd totally behind him the whole time, and it was cool seeing him... then Buddy Guy came out and literally killed it, and gave it his all, I think partly making up for his good friend’s off night, and it was awesome.... great night.

Sitting in his dressing room, back stage in Perth with just my girl and the King, will forever be one of the most memorable moments of my life. The humble man opposite blew me away by his willingness to sit and talk the blues with a fan. The greatest blues player on the planet took time out to chat to a fan when others would have been in the limo and half way to the hotel, and not once did he try to hustle me out. There are a few other great names in the blues world that cold learn from his humbleness and gratitude. RIP the King.

Back when I didn’t know the difference between blues and jazz ( looong ago) I loved Mr. BB King. I am a white girl with a blues heart and Mr. King was the reason. It amazes me still each time I hear his music. I could go on, but I have to wonder how there could be even one down vote from this post. The jealous few who can’t stand the success of another is all I can attribute that to. We Love You Mr. BB, and always will. You know there is one hell of a band in heaven with him among them.

Just found this channel. For me a beautiful moment when BB plays with Pavarotti BB so humble to the great tenor voice..BB synonymous with the blues lived for 3 weeks on his own aged 9 parents dead. BB's message to the world terrific. Joe calls him Mr King throughout the ultimate respect. Now JB flies the blues flag and does it superbly. I guess it is about telling stories BB King told great stories and now Mr Joe Bonamassa tells those great stories in his way and tells his his own great stories. Happy to know Blues Lives

The first time I saw a video of 12 year old Bonamassa, I was brought to tears to see such talent coming out of such a young kid. A couple nights ago watched Joe's concert at the Greek Theater for the umpteenth time, again brought to tears when he played BB's Hummingbird, partly because of his masterful playing and partly because BB is gone and it's one of the best songs ever. Got to see BB twice, once around 1989 and again during his 80th birthday tour. I am still kicking myself because I didn't go up and meet him at the first one, which was at a small outdoor venue and would have been easy to do and I'm not shy about meeting celebrities. Must have been temporarily out of my mind, didn't take my camera either!

B.B. King was the first real blues player I ever heard when I was 11 yrs. old. I had been listening to Creedence on the radio (Fogerty and His band were fairly new at the time) and their song ended so I switched stations. I heard a few almost unearthly guitar riffs with an odd finger trill like nothing I had heard before, then a really emotional singing voice...Yes, BB King playing "The thrill is gone". How did I never hear this tune before?, I thought. I'm a geezer of 65 now, and through the years I have acquired a lot of luthier knowledge, built hundreds of electric guitars, studied and taught a lot, tried almost every wiring scheme possible, cut bodies from nearly every type of wood, listened to tens of thousands of artists, been in countless bands, and all the things a normal kid does. One day I had a strange realization...John Fogerty was playing in a rather BB King style. Oh well, in the '70's I had been studying the playing style of My all-time favorite player, The late great Rory Gallagher; a few of His songs caused My ears to pick out a little bit of the master, BB King...The list goes on and on. BB influenced SO MANY people. I went to a Walter Trout show (another great guy, (and good friend)) and Walter came out for the first tune, paused and said He was very sad tonight and REALLY had the blues..."We lost BB King today". I got home later, pulled out My ES-355 and played "The thrill is gone" and put that fiddle back in its case. That was a very sad day. RIP, Big Guy. Love, -Smythie

Absolutely couldn't pass up paying my respects to a man who not only gave the world his own interpretation of the blues that inspired generations of guitarists. No way I can name them all but some of the most notable, Les Paul, Alvin Lee, Dwayne Almond, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and I gotta give Stevie Ray Vaughan. Guess I gotta top it off right now with Joe Bonnamassa who no doubt has proven to be a dedicated bluesman through and through! Thank You Joe for this awesome tribute! Much LnR

I was born in 67 - the "Summer of Love"Rochester, New York.... Anyways, some time around 1990, 1991 or 1992 ( my memory fails me), Rochester, New York -- Lilac Festival concert around 9 pm it was dark, I lived on Monroe Avenue and Rowley Street at the time and I remembered wanting to run home and get my "Live at Cook County Jail LP for him to autograph!!", I had just bailed out of Monroe County Jail Here is -a Paisano shout-out to (corporal at the time), Mike Scarpulla and Deputy Charlie Macaluso!!---WHASSS UP!!), All of the Italian Deputies knew my family.. (actually my notorious Uncle Joey) so every time I went in, I was a trustee. as well as the post man - which is the dude with access to the female meal carts so I could pass notes, shanks, weed, tobacco and anything else needed in the jailhouse black market. SOOOO I hear some Earth Shattering Blues in the Downtown Blue and White Striped Festival Tent...Kind of like a "late night Christian Bible Thumpin revival" . I jumped the fence and crawled in. I couldn't believe it. There was this little kid jamming on the guitar with BB King and some Janis Joplin Cover band with BB's horn section. In between sets they were playing Jimi' Hendrix's "Axis Bold As Love" album. The little kid turns out to be smokin, joe at around age 12! I will never forget it. I had a mohawk haircut that this Brutha in cell block 3m west low gave me for a pack of Newports !It was turned into a mohawk because he couldn't fade my scraggly straight hair. Anyways.... I am in the front row jumping around with a Black-Power-Fist and a mohawk. Joe and BB were exchanging these wild blues licks. BB looked at me and probably thought I was some kind of Metal Head, so dove in to this Eddie-Van-Halen-style Fret Board Work like the "Eruption" Solo on VH2!! Man it was outrageous ! So I jumped up on stage and grabbed BB's feet. Security dove on me and pummeled me back down into the audience. Then, while holding and bending a note, BB reached down, shook my hand, reached in his blazer pocket, and then gave me four inch gold plated Gibson ES-345 which everyone who is anyone knows that is Lucille's Flavor. It said "Lucille" underneath. My mom still has that pin until this day. Besides Prince, the only famous people I have ever met
