Nobody even said a word about the 27-year old young lady that was also killed. This actually hits home, as my 27-year old step-daughter was just killed in a head-on collision two weeks ago. Every life is important, no matter how well known or how big their bank account is.

I miss Steve Byrnes. He would make you laugh or smile no matter what kind of a day you were having. RIP.

Lets not forget that there was a second person killed in that accident. Tammy Williams, a 27 year old nursing assistant, wife and mother along with Robby. Still it is very sad this happened at all. Raw talent lost at a very young age.

I met Rob shortly before his accident, he was kind friendly guy that would sit there and just talk, it didn't have to be about racing he was simply a nice person.

I have heard legends about this situaion. I was able to see the entire thing Thusday. My buddy Mardeth ("Cenatwood") said to me when we watched this that Rob seemed to be a fusion of Adam Petty & Dan Wheldon in terms of racing. I think that had he lived, he would eventually be an awesome driver with a higher-level ride. Thank you for posting this! ^_^

When Rob Moroso came along, there were hardly any drivers under 30 that had reached the top. At that time, you had to work your way up through lower-funded teams and try to get a break with one of the top teams. He was sort of the first of the the "new breed".

Moroso didn't have a squeaky-clean background mind you. Multiple speeding and reckless driving citations prior to his fatal highway accident.

It's seems so surreal and just like yesterday when you see clips and hear audio of Steve Byrnes and his enthusiasm and happy go lucky demeanor for life for people for nascar! We grew up on his commentaries and punditry all things nascar! Sadly missed and never forgotten,just a likeable guy and fun to watch and listen to as a race fan we've been blessed with some amazing history and wonderful memories both on and off the track! RIP Steve and Rob and God bless their families and friends!

Dick was the man, a true giver and gentleman. He was kind to me, so rare. He loved his son.Very few people live with no pretense. Singer Island will never be the same

I like how they talk about him and all and this that and he was a talent. But didn’t mention anything about Tammy‘s family what a kick in the face.

Kid died below the house in a wreck, same thing could have happened to Kyle Bush running 180 down through the back woods out of Troutman, something I have done in my younger days.

He killed an innocent person. No quarter giving from me.

Loved those Oldsmobiles.

He would have been a multi-time cup champion.

Given the collapse of the sport's popularity, the death of Moroso and others, and the fact so many promising drivers never succeeded, one can't help but think the sport would have been in a far better state today if he and others had lived and he and others who struggled instead succeeded.

Oh snap I remember I had a rob moroso trading card as a kid and I remember deciding between throwing it away and keeping it I'm glad I kept it I wonder what I ever did with it...

I would bet if Rob Moroso would've lived, Jeff Gordon wouldn't have as many wins or titles for that matter. Rick Hendrick started him out behind the wheel before he raced for his father, which leads me to believe that Hendrick would've thrown him a lucrative deal his way once he started showing signs of improvement.

If Moroso, Adam Petty, Allison and Kulwicki had lived I can guarantee you Earnhardt would not have been a 7 time champion, and JJ wouldn't have won what he has.... truly sad that these RACERS died and Marketing Machines rule NASCAR....... Probably why I don't give a damn about watching it now but love watching the old stuff on KZfaq

Rob Moroso chose to drive drunk, I don't feel sad that he died, I feel sad for Tammy and her family, and I feel bad for Dick Moroso for having to bury his son at a young age

I'm 19 and gordon won his first title when I was born and you guys are probably right had moroso Davey Allison Alan kulwicki Adam petty and kenny Irwin not have died there would have been championships between those guys and jeff gordon Earnhardt probably wouldn't been a 7 time champion no offense to the fans but even jimmy Johnson Jeff gordon and tony stewartthey wouldn't have won the titles they won those guys would have been dominant and NASCAR used restrictor plates at the races which killed petty and Irwin you can't use restrictor plates on a small track but the other 4 you can't blame them for their death and like I said had moroso Adam petty kenny Irwin Alan kulwicki and Davey Allison that's how people see it

Rich kid who worked for nothing and was handed everything. Rules didn't apply to people like him it seemed. Too much, too soon and then it was all taken away and cost an innocent young woman her life.

What infuriates me about this story is the fact that multiple people were more of a major factor in terms of this tragedy... but no one is discussing _them..._ Why did Dick Moroso treat his own son as just another racer that drove for him until he reached Richard Petty levels in trash Cup equipment (Which is, you know, impossible)?... Why did Barry Dodson ask Rob to *DRIVE TO HIM* when Rob clearly told him *HE WAS CRYING IN HIS **_BEER!?..._* Why did Rob's girlfriend not drive the car herself?... To me those 3 didn't give a damn about Rob himself & he lost a sense of identity just trying to impress his Dad. How infuriating! Those 3, & especially Barry Dodson, are most responsible for this tragedy. Perhaps we should view those 3 as the *true* NASCAR Busts in this story... Right Darian?...

This is a heartbreaking story !

I remember meeting Rob after the race in Myrtle Beach in 88 or 88. I was only around 12 but my dad took my brother and I to get his autograph. Instead of just signing for us Rob sat and talked to us for what seemed like forever. I never had another driver be so nice. I believe he signed a pic of him in the swisher sweets ride but it was lost in a house fire many years ago. I remember that night well but I'm not sure if it was the night he won or not. It possibly could've been 87? I was a kid but Rob was truly a nice guy who definitely went out of his way for us that night.

I remember mourning his death. I didn't realize who he took with him. A Nurse 27 years old. She was the loss here. He chose his death.

So he killed that poor 27 year old woman. And you all talk about how you lost a future champion?

He was a good racer..like tim Richmond...but the lives they both negatively affected outside of racing puts a huge cloud over their professional accomplishments.moroso with drinking and reckless driving and Richmond with aids and his promiscuity....why can't they be professional off track as well as on?

Tragic loss of two lives. Reading through some of these comments, there's a lot of vitriol being spewed. He was 22 years old. He made a very stupid decision. Which one of us hasn't made a stupid decision, and but for the grace of God, didn't end up dead (or injured, comatose, etc.)? I pray that Tammy Williams family found comfort in the Lord, as well as the Moroso family.
