I have the 742 wood master I love it I keep it clean and only shoot remington cartridges at 150 grain it just seems to perform better I've killed a lot of deer with it many at 200. 300 and some farther it's all I deer hunt with it's been a great gun

I've started using Hornady 150gr interlock. Before that I used a custom load, but they stopped selling the powder for those. The Hornady are the closest to that.

You definitely have to make sure your magazine is locked in place. I lost a full one a few years back when i fired at a deer. Fortunately i was in the same place the next day and looked down to find my lost magazine.

I got one of these in 1981. I never really cared that much for it, I ended up by acquiring a collection of bolt action hunting rifles, but I never got rid of the 742. I found that the groups would open up to 4" and sometimes more at 100 yards unless I let the barrel cool ALL THE WAY DOWN. Mine prefers 180 grain Remington Core-Lokt factory loads (I don't reload for this particular rifle). With those loads, and letting the barrel cool, my groups shrank considerably to somewhere around an inch. The thing to keep in mind is that, despite the firepower a semi-auto hunting rifle offers, the shot that counts the most is the first shot. Thanks for a great video, concise and to the point. Mine was doing that but it had those high see through rings took those off and put leupold bases and rings lapped and leveled everything and torqued it down right after that shots 1/2 inch at 100 and 1 1/2 at 175 to 200 made a huge difference

I got same one. Shoot 1)4inch at 100. W cold bore. They open up pretty good if heated up, shot 10plus fast but this gun Isn't menti for that. It's a cold Barrel hunting gun

742/7400 are one of my favorite guns. You have to know how to feed them. I have a 270 that jammed/ blew primers. Cleaned it and lubed. Sub moa with 4 different loads. Cuss them if you want to I will keep mine.

I've got one with a five digit serial number. As long as you don't get it hot, it holds one MOA with good ammo. It's a great hunting rifle, but it's not meant for other applications.

I have used one of these rifles to hunt mule deer,it belonged to my landlord. When I went to sight it in I found that it preferred to shoot one load way better than the other loads that my landlord had. With Remington 168 grain core-locked, it was a tack driver! Wish I had offered to buy it ! Just saying

My grandpa gave me his woodmaster for Christmas when I was 14 after I got my hunting license I don’t understand when ppl say they jam all the time and are inaccurate mine hasn’t jammed once and it feeds amazing and it’s a tacdriver up to 400 yards

Your rear mount is backwards. Just saying. I've got the 1960 model drives tacks first 3 shots quarter inch group. The next 3 open up to 3)4 inch with hot bore. Good rifles if lightly used and kept super clean and lube

LOL. That's how I got it. I'm thinking it was done that way to move the scope back a little. It's a cheapo with poor eye relief.

I am aware, I was referring to 6mm Creed more out of 6mm model 742, as that's what I have. The 742 came chambered in a number of rounds, and the 6mm was previously the .244, but twist rate was wrong. The .243 came out at the same time. By the time the .244 came back as the 6mm, the .243 had taken off. I asked the question because finding 6mm Remington is next to impossible. I have since bought the setup for making my own, but I believe it's still a valid question, and a yes or no would answer it.

Bought 1 new in 78 , never jammed but would not group well . went to another rifle. Years latter left it off with an old gun smith and he got it spot on for me .

@@forrestspradlin8015 I prefer my bolt guns in magnum calibers more accurate at every range and I was taught how to shoot by a sniper when a semi auto has a reputation for jamming also I don't want it
