"I want them to have that same passion we have" That's impossible unless you share ownership stake with your employees. No one is going to have the sheer passion for a company that an owner has.

Kevin is right, the one who hates remote work is simply a business owner who doesn't accept the fact that the work force is changing and he is still stuck in that "do it with passion" mentality

As a Manager, I would always prefer to allow remote work accommodations. Imagine how much better our US economy can be. It will allow people with limited capacities that would normally be getting a monthly check from the state to allow them to work from their home and instead put back into the system. There are so many talented individuals that are either bed or wheel chair bound that can add to the dynamic of the US economy. I know this would affect the commercial real estate investor but with such a homeless population, those buildings can be converted to housing that will allow people to get back on their feet. In my honest opinion, the role of middle management is going the route of the abacus... in their time they were needed, now with the progressive technology, a team can self police themselves without all that unnecessary hierarchy and instead have one Manager handling all the Depts.... that is if the technology being used can support the necessary to view and manage teams.

Not applicable for every field of work, But, for example in the world of marketing or sales, how about you compensate based on performance. If the worker stays home, the concern is they slack off. Well, if they are crunching out sales at home more so than their counter parts at the office, then who cares Vice versa, if the person at the office needs an actual work place away from home distractions, well there you have it, they can crunch out sales while at the office. Pay based off results, not location. If the person at home is truly a slacker, the sales and numbers will reflect that when compared to an in person office position. And simply just fire the home person.

As a developer I will never go back to the office full or part time. If you want to hire me, it better be full remote - period. I don’t mind coming in for special events, or the occasional business travel. But I will NEVER sit in a cube farm week in and week out ever again. Life is too short. And if I can do my job remotely, then I will work remotely. If my company were to call me back to the office - then I’ll quit. Many of my fellow IT professionals feel the same way. Why there is a debate over this is boggles my mind. It’s like debating whether or not employees should be compensated for their work. The agreement between the employer and employee is private and I don’t care what people think of me working remotely.

Nowadays there is more work to be done then skilled professionals. So, at least in IT, you can choose to work where ever you want. Why should I choose a workplace that forces me drive every day? The only thing I get put of this is that I end up with is being stuck in traffic all the time and the costs for the commute. I feel like that companies who don't get that, will become irrelevant in the near future because they simply don't find anyone who's willig to work there or because they won't get the top talents but just the rest that nobody else wants 🤷‍♂️

I would vote for the hybrid model. But my question would be in regards to pay. Do you establish a standard pay based on position, credentials and experience and then adjust pay based on cost of living for where each person is located? For example, standard pay for a developer is X. If that developer lives in New York City then they get paid more than X based on an accepted cost of living calculation. If a developer of the same grade lives in the rural south then they just get paid X.
@mackrobinson8853
@mackrobinson8853 Жыл бұрын
Yeah no one’s going to accept less pay for doing the same job as their counterparts who chose to live in New York. That’s asinine. You pay people based on the work they provide for you, not pay them for where they want to live.

She sounds she not up to date with the trends in workers now. I work from home. I thrive. I am lucky enough the company I work for you can choose office, hybrid or fully remote. But if you are giving bonuses on people at the office that is just not right. Your need of micromanage does not equal that people wfh do nothing.

In my company, the employees who WFH are secretly ghosting coasting and doing several jobs, quiet quitting and bullshitters ... some of them are doing 3-4 jobs making a grand total of $200K. They don't even respond to emails, voicemails and texts immediately ... so, these days my company no longer beg them to come back to the office, but instead, just LAYOFF them.
