Pest controller Pete is called out to deal with an infestation of Bed Bugs at a residential property.
Bed bugs are a type of insect that feed on human blood, usually at night. Their bites can result in a number of health effects including skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms.
Often brought back from other countries into the UK, these nasty critters will make your skin crawl, literally.

A few years ago we had a bed bug problem. I got a spray bottle, 90% rubbing alcohol mixed with water and sprayed my mattresses, floors, headboard, nightstand and every nook and cranny. I got a new mattress, washed all clothes and blankets and vacuumed. Process took about 3 days or so but I haven't seen a bedbug since 2016. Hope this helps if you're on a budget.

I had to deal with bed bugs at my ex girlfriend's and my parents house in my parents bedroom. 90% isopropyl alcohol will kill them on contact. Completely soak your mattress and all furniture. On dressers and such, get into those corners really good. Then once you spray everything down really good, take all furniture and put it outside in the heat. Make sure that drawers of the dressers are out and laying on the ground. Make sure every side of the dresser and corner gets direct sunlight as well. They hate bright lights! Once your done with putting everything outside, go back to the room you were working in and soak the entire carpet because if they lay eggs in the carpet then they will just come back. Soak your walls too! Get every single square inch of the room you are working in with that alcohol. Do not sleep in the room for at least 48hrs. I also recommend soaking everything multiple times, like once it dries up, soak it again and let it dry then soak again, this includes the carpet in the room. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation and wear a mask cause the smell will be harsh. I did this with my parents room and we havent seen a single bed bug since, it's been 4 years since this! Oh and all your clothes, wash them in extremely hot water and when you dry them, dry them twice! They cant deal with the heat at all, it dries them out and then they die. If they are in the dresser draws, then it's possible they might be in some of the clothes so it's just safer to wash all clothes! Oh and I also got bed bug bombs and used 2 of those in the room just so the smoke could get in areas that I couldnt. I did this twice, so a total of 4 bed bug bombs were used in a 48hr period.
@leaperrins8373
@leaperrins8373 2 жыл бұрын
OK, I do have to point out that alcohol is extremely flammable and people have caused serious house fires by trying to do what you suggest. Secondly NEVER EVER use bug bombs with bed bugs. They run from the smoke as far as they can, and since they can fit into tiny spaces, you can spread them into other rooms and make the infestation worse.
@kjrwhs2003
@kjrwhs2003 2 жыл бұрын
@@leaperrins8373 I used extreme caution and let the rooms ventilate very well. Also as to bed bug bombs, they do help. I didn't just do 1 and done. I did 2 at a time and did it three times in the room to guarantee the smoke would make it into the small crevices. So in the end, it's been 5yrs+ and not a single bed bug has been seen.
@leaperrins8373
@leaperrins8373 2 жыл бұрын
@@kjrwhs2003 I understand why someone would use alcohol, I just wanted to state the risks because its potentially life threatening. However, I really cant get behind bug bombs for bed bugs. Many professionals do not recommend them for the reasons I've stated. There are better less risky solutions.

I would use a vacuum/hoover. I got bed bugs when my kids friends came to sleep over. I think they got the bugs in their stuffed animals. I contained the bedbugs in the living room where my kids and their friends slept. I vacuumed daily. I used a steamer to steam the couches and carpet daily. When the sleep over was done, I made sure my kids undress in the bathroom and wear a new set of clothing before going to sleep in their bedroom. I continued this routine til bedbugs were eradicated.

Another good method is putting the mattresses and box springs into plastic bed covers. They're zip up plastic covers that prevent the bed bugs from leaving. They die out in about a month but to prevent a resurgence of bed bugs, always keep a bag on your mattress and box springs.

As someone who's gone through, not one, but two bed bug infestations, I can personally tell you that little horrors are generally the hardest thing to get rid of. My old mattress had to be removed from my room, sprayed down, and the hauled off. All my clothes needed to be washed and placed in plastic bags and my room had to be literally gassed to get rid of them all. Fortunately, it was in the middle of summer, so leaving clothes outside in dark plastic bags aided in killing them off.

Shop vacuum! Vacuuming alone can remove up to 90% of bed bugs alone. Just be sure to empty the vacuum immediately outside the home when finished vacuuming. I'm a bed bug heat specialist. We use heat remediation (heating entire rooms or homes) to kill every bed bug plus their eggs, in that size room in about an hour. Heat remediation is hands down the quickest way to eliminate bed bugs in hours not days. We then strategically apply two separate preventative chemical residuals that are undetectable by bed bugs, to protect for any new bed bugs brought in. It is very important to use the correct bed bug chemicals that cannot be detected or any new bed bugs brought in after a full treatment will just avoid the areas sprayed with repellent chemicals until it is no longer effective enough to hurt them. They can survive anywhere around 7 months or more without feeding from your blood. They go into a dorment stage to waste as little energy as possible. The English fellows bed bug removal with tape will take several hours just for the one bed alone and bed bugs do not only get on beds, couches and chairs. They get onto the homes structure and your belongings, especially if you use repellent chemicals and it drives them into hiding in different places. Not to mention that he uses a chemical residual spray and not fumigation as the announcer states. Chemical residual sprays when used as a stand alone will normally take 2-4 treatments total, spread apart but 7-14 days or even for some bed bug companies they may stretch it out to every month until gone. They can be hiding anywhere in your home but most will be within about 15 feet of where you sleep or sit for long periods of time. Eggs hatching new born baby bed bugs or instars are what most common folk and even exterminators have trouble completely getting rid of the bugs for. ~Can you see baby bed bugs? Fun fact: It is normally not that easy to get rid of bedbugs.. It will almost always take multiple treatments.

You'll never get rid of them this way. I've had them and they'll even hide in electronics. They would hide in the USB ports and its all day. Kill them and two hours later there would be more. I'd have to clean the ports twenty times a day. I every set up a hammock to sleep in and two days later I was being bit again. We had the place sprayed probably ten times and it never made a difference. Eventually we had to move and start our lives over again. We had to leave everything. Three laptops, numerous tvs,pictures. All our books,my DVD collection which had over 2000 of them. At the time I had every Star wars book ever written and bed buds love hiding in books. Every piece of clothing. It hurt to lose all that but compared with a place that had no bedbugs it was worth it
