I think the benefit of it would be a baseline from which you can provision Windows XP using a package manager with dependency-aware deployment. So the networking features are still available in the setup files, just not installed, and when any network-dependent software is installed the networking feature is installed and configured as a prerequisite, facilitating a minimal install with granular configuration.

Is that a real thing or a hypothetical?

@@adventuresinnostalgia It isn't theoretical, but there also isn't a turn-key solution readily available. A UK company called Research Machines, now rebranded to RM, released a school-centric network management suite called Community Connect 3 (CC3) for Windows Server 2000/2003 and Windows XP environments. CC3 included a package management system which was capable of deploying EXE and MSI, I believe INFs could also be deployed with an MSI wrapper which are the component setup files used by Windows XP. The package management system was based on WISE Installation System, ultimately acquired by Symantec, which had support for dependency-aware package deployment.

You know what I think Windows 10/11 would be so much better if You Remove All of their Features. It would be very de bloated and no ads.

I don't have a video that covers the topic, but this forum post is a good resource. ~95% of the software for Vista also works on Windows XP

I would really like to see removing all features from Windows 10/11. There are so many useless services that occupy memory. Especially Windows defender - which I still cannot completely remove ...

You do not need the internet in order to use Windows XP. My Windows XP computer is not hooked up to the internet at all. So, no firewall or antivirus needed. These slow down the computer. By removing them, Windows XP and the programs run a lot faster. 😀

@@adventuresinnostalgiaIndeed if SP3 version is used with minimal bloat then it might give better performance than full version of SP0. In 2003 i used xp without any updates and it had lot of problems and then i slipstreamed SP2 into the CD image and all the instability went away. Though it consumed slightly higher ram but it was far better than initial release.

You've got the software pared down to quite a small package. Are you able to do this with 7, 10, and 11? And if so, what are their corresponding sizes? How do they compare? I have an old laptop that has gotten quite slow with 10 on it. I'm sure it can stand a cleaning yet that would not be enough. I would love to try to run Windows 11 at less than a gig. But I will use XP, 7, or 10 (fresh, bloat-free install) down if those would help.

I removed so many things that the utility of the operating system was diminished significantly. I would like to eventually take a more realistic approach to the component removal and hopefully make something that is worth using.

Hello, in the meantime, I've learned a few things. 1) Windows 11 won't run on my computer. Maybe it would with some way to trick the system. Throwing out some letters here, hope I'm not confused, I don't have the required UEFI for Win 11. 2) Win 7 was fine on my computer of course, but the version of IE would not allow me to connect to the internet. Perhaps there is a workaround unknown to me. I did get on another computer and get the download for Google Chrome to SD card, then loaded it onto the Win 7 machine. Chrome then told me, I could not get Chrome updates due to using Win 7. I gave up on it but I did get a Win 10 ISO and installed it. Computer is fairly nice with Win 10 out of the box but I still want to debloat it. Thanks for all. TTYL William
