The actuator is in a tricky position, but it can be done with the right tools and some scrunching yourself up in the driver footwell.

Thank you!!!!! I didnt know that tool existed and ive been wrenching for decades. I ordered the tool and got the job done. I used antiox grease you can find at any home improvement store and applied thin coat on gear after cleaning with alcohol. I also regreased gear with very thin grease. Make sure you take pics of both sides of assembly before disassembly, inside the gears etc. helps during reassembly. Also make sure the armature is in the slots if the tracks properly. May have yo move tracks around as they fall when remove

2004 Prius here... got a clicking, sounds like the vent to left of MFD. Only occurs occasionally, and can never get it to happen when parked. :( cycle through all the modes, no clicks, no issues. Finally nailed it down to when center vent used, either center only or center+foot. Air does flow, but I guess vent just can't find it's position. Odd. After seeing this video, gonna try to see what's up thx!

Did yours ever start switching to defrost by itself? The one on my Gen 2 is clicking so I'm going to change it but my wife's Gen 2 started randomly switching to defrost while the AC is running.

Hi my prius has cold ac when battery only but as soon as the engine kicks in the ac is hot. Is it these actuators that need changing? Please help!

No, these just control the flow of air, they don't change based on whether the engine is running.

I took mine out and cleaned it with contact enhancer, only to discover that my issue is with the actuator above it. Now I am trying to make sure I didn't break it. Hot and cold seems to work fine, but I can't tell that the actuator is actually changing position at all. What does this thing even do?

Mine too is the one above deeper in is the one tripping did you fix yous

Yes, I replaced both with used parts I found on eBay. I had to take the whole dash apart to get at the one on top, and it still wasn’t easy. I had to fix the capacitor in my speedometer display anyway, so I just did it all at once. Good luck!

I get an occasional crackling sound mostly when it's on low is that the only blend door actuator or where is there one in the dash because it sounds like it's coming from the dash

There's another actuator for the mode selection; I sold the car a while back so I'm not sure where that one is, but I recall it being harder to get to.

I don't recall, it was years ago. Not more than an hour of wrenching I would think. The most time-consuming part was probably trying to source a tool that would fit
