It's funny how you mentioned how Ren is inspired by Barrington Levy who wrote the original reggae classic "Murderer", because actually, Ren directly pays tribute to many artists; including Levy, who have inspired him in the acoustic version Ren wtote. 🤯 In the acoustic version Ren is directly giving homage in a new opening to Ina Kamoze (In the streets they call it MURDER) but right after that Ren plays the same guitar riff for Barrington Levy's "Murderer" & adds all the scatting Levy does as well before Ren finally begins his own song "Murderer". Ren also gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff from Dre's "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. (probably because this was shot in LA while Ren was on holiday). Also Ren say's (Beotch) in this version instead of the word (Bitch) which is in his original release, as a tip of the hat to Snoop who was the 1st to coin that word. As for Ren's guitar solo before the Dr. Dre section began, I believe this was an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences, Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt being the famous Jazz guitarist who; if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st to introduce Jazz to the UK. This is very much a 30-40's guitar riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music. Reggae, Ska and Jazz are very big influences in Ren's music 💖 Cheers ✌✌😁.

Great reaction, bruv. Def check out the acoustic version of this too, it's not just the same tune, he totally mixes it up, throwing a few easter eggs in there from Damian Marley and Dr Dre (and of course the Barrington Levy bit). It's more of a reggae feel to it overall, mixed with.. ska I guess. it's dope anyhow. Have a good Christmas, mate 👍🏻

If you like battle rap, you might like the diss battle he had with King Dotta (a rapper). Back story is Dotta, who had very few subscribers, was calling out rappers with a much larger audience, near or over a million. Nobody was really taking his bait, but he had been talking smack about Ren in some comments and Ren caught him real time in a comments section and challenged him to a battle where they did their own tracks in front of a camera. Dotta started to backpedal, but agreed to it in principle. That's the short version. There was also a series of tracks between Dotta and Knox Hill at basically the same time.

Nice genuine shout out to Barrington Levy.... As I heard this "Murderer hook" from Ren at my very first listening I instantly thought on Barrington Levy as well. In almost every Ren track there are hidden musical easter eggs from several music genres across the board....And I´m an old dude listening to music my whole life so I know a lot of music from the past so I hear a lot of such easter eggs when I listen to Ren...and many of them aren´t that obvious than like this "Murderer hook"

He is in Canada currently getting medical treatment so he can gain some weight amongst other issues he has. It must be working because I saw a recent picture of him at the gym bench pressing 100k, 220 lbs and has gotten much bigger in the arms and chest. With like an 8 pack abs and like 3% body fat. He looks so much smaller in this video, but again this video is close to 3 yrs old.

The guy he captured and put in the trunk was the mayor of Brighton--caught him totally by surprise. Kidding, of course. 😂 It was his friend, Joe Flack, his photographer who does a lot of his publicity shots. I agree with other commenters who suggest watching the acoustic version; he's very playful in that one, and definitely plays up the reggae vibe. He also did acoustic versions of Genesis and Animal Flow that are also 🔥, though it's good to watch both versions of each for better context. Great reaction!
