Yup. Animal Farm. And Ren as Clockwork Orange's Alex AND Willy Wonka with his funky cane walk. Many folk hear traces of the Oompa Loompa song. And the dogs playing poker. The first dogs playing poker painting was done in 1894. What a great side chuckle. Ren has said this is his favorite video to date. Can't blame him. Amazing work by his videographer. It appears to be a single take by the camera visually. Which means all the players had to be in place ready to go when the camera got there. And the camera didn't follow Ren all the time. He had to run around in the building and get in place for the camera's arrival. An amazing production. By an INDEPENDENT artist. This song has many references to some cult classics sich as George Orwells animal farm, a clockwork orange, Willy Wonka, 1984 etc. This kid is a Genius...🤔😎🎸

Ren came up with the concept, designed and directed it, and produced it. One of his friends was the cameraman and another friend let him shoot at his building flat. The set design was whatever they could get in plants and shrubs. The major costs on this video was all the animal maskes that Ren bought plus the walking stick he picked up from a second hand store. I believe Ren said they started set up and rehearsals around 7pm and finished shooting around 4am. Ren wanted to shoot it like Kubrick would have, in one shot, no cuts. Now that's what I call a wonderful group of friends and just goes to prove if your truly talented you don't need thousands of dollars for a music video.😁

Read those 7 rules the animals made that appears on the wall early in the video (taken from Orwell’s Animal Farm when the animals rebelled) and then notice that the animals in the video were breaking every single rule. It’s like there are 2 things going on. The visuals go with the lyrics but they also stand alone with deeper meaning. Then there’s the audio song where if you close your eyes to the visual, carry’s on it’s own which aligns with some of his other rap songs -Illest of Our Time, Hunger, Losing It. Ren is a master at double meanings!!!

There are soooo many callbacks to previous pieces, classic films, beyond just clockwork orange in his dress and animal farm on the wall. Talking about blood in the glass and the slaughter of the sheep but the wine glass might be full of wine disallowed by the animals or a callback to cannibalism from the first scene with what looks like a human head. Cane is a third leg - halfway between 2 and 4 legs and some of the animals followed him. There's so much more.

This video, like a lot of his vids, was done in one continuous shot, and was filmed at his friend’s apartment. The animals are all friends he convinced to show up for the shoot.

Another one take using a bunch of his friends. Check out Ren's acoustic version of this, filmed on a moving bus, just him, his guitar and Sam his videographer (and likely some lucky passengers). The acoustic version is raw and subtly more sinister. All the beats in both versions are his own.

you guys are going to lose your sH!t when you see/hear The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full trilogy)---like Hi Ren, each of the 3 pieces are their own songs, all filmed live and on the move. it's' such a good story, and it's odd b/c each song/section gets BETTER. the last one, Violet's Tale, is such a good song, catchy medieval guitar, playing with the acoustics of different spaces he walks through...just BRILLIANT. also, his band The Big Push? just good indie rock, but when they're busking (playing on the streets in public) they cover reggae, old school R&B, old rock (they mash up War Pigs, Paranoid, and even throw in some Rage Against the Machine, among others)...super-versatile, and all the band members are legit band leaders--everyone but the drummer takes turns at lead vocals, and they even switch instruments. so...there's a LOT to discover, even if you don't do it all here on the channel--young as he looks, he's 33, and been making music for well over a decade. i've been watching your channel for a good while (since you were on 4 wheels), but you discovering Ren just made it for me. cheers

Just a quick FYI.. both versions of Animal Farm movies are available for free here on YT. I love the 50's animated original version the best. This song is truth. Ren knows that humans are the most brutal animals on earth and he cofronts the listener with this. Modern society hides this truth with our supermarket mentality. It's unnerving but it is truth nonetheless. It is brilliant really, lots of very clever references.

His music is so diverse. Try genesis and his band the big push, I shot the sheriff to see more of his variety. Also his 2 songs with Eden nash.....oh I could go on and on ....
