Too much of it comes from judging the sinner for the sin when we would be better served judging the sin and NOT the sinner. Hahaha I've been caught for minutes holding a door open. I always try and wait for a time when there is enough of a gap that the person I let the door close on might not feel I did it on purpose. It can end up meaning I look like a door man. I disagree about the lack of an afterlife. Can I prove it? Nope. But there is some hinted evidence. Bodies becoming lighter at the moment of death. People that have medically died and been brought back and described feelings after the death (now I'll give you those could be explained by something like the chicken with it's head cut off or a snake still biting after the same treatment but it is a small hint there MIGHT be something). Even if our memories turn to nothing when we die, WE live on in the memory of others. It is such a bleak existence (to me) if, when it is done, that's it. That leaves very little reason to live a good life. It is the belief there MIGHT be something after this life that leads people to fear doing wrong/evil or to look forward to the benefits of doing good. I have never heard a good argument for, if this is it, why we should not judge others. If that's the case, what leads us to not judge others, simply, by our own perverted ideas? Yes, this happens too often already, but when I remove the base human thoughts, I come to universal morals that seem to reach all aspects of the human condition. I think the base moral principal is do not view others as objects. Objects of lust, greed, anger, etc. Instead, view them as fellow humans who all have a propensity to bring me great join and extreme pain. I try to cultivate the former while avoiding or, at least, calling out the latter.
